G3 Twirlerina's hair disintigrating - anyone else?
« on: February 02, 2022, 11:27:26 PM »
Posted about this on MLPTP too-

I recently got a G3 Twirlerina from a thrift store. I was doing a round of pony cleaning, scrubbed her with soap and washed her hair. When it came to condition and comb her hair out, her tail held up just fine. When I got to her mane though, the dark pink hair in her forelock just came right out. I was horrified. Two swipes and she's suffering from mare pattern baldness. The light pink in her mane - the same hair as her tail - was just fine. The tinsel in the dark pink part of her mane didn't come out, either. Just the hair.

I quickly went to grab the other Twirlerina I have, and yes, she too is suffering from exploding dark pink hair. I had never noticed this before. Is this a known issue with this pony?? I know there are some G3 ponies that are known to have poor quality hair that falls apart in time. I guess Twirlerina is one of them. Check on yours!

Oh my gosh that's so scary (Twirlerina is one of my childhood ponies so she's very dear to me).
I did have three (one I sold) and thankfully so far didn't have that issue. Two that I have rn could really use some brushing so the thought that this could happen to them does scare me a bit :(

One of the Twirlerina's that I have does have some cut hair (I'm unsure if just someone broke the hair off or did it got damaged like yours did).

I did that similar issues with my donkey pose Sunny Daze (all orange hair is just falling off) and when I was brushing tail of my Tea Lily some of her red hair was coming off (only from the tail tho and the other one that I had didn't have that issue) in her case only a little bit fall off and she seems to be fine right now.

Yep! this is called "dry rot". Some types of g3 hair do this. My Midnight Dream has the opposite of yours - her forelock is fine, so she's sporting a chelsea 'do until she can be rehaired. Her hair is that same colour.
it's such a bummer, but one of those things that can happen over the years. it's just the pony getting old.
I'm sorry it happened to your twirlerinas

Oh no! I’m sorry this happened to your Twirlina. :( I knew hair rot was an issue with G3, but I always thought it more so affected the budget ponies that were sold through Avon and Dollar General. I’m bummed it seems to be affecting other ponies too. I checked my Twirlina and tugged at her hair a bit to test it, so far it seems to still be sturdy.

Oh well, I suppose there will be opportunities in the future for fun alternate rehairs if the original hair all rots out…that dark pink color is SO common in G3s. If it’s an issue with specific colors, a lot of G3s are about to go bald!

This happened to my nieces G3 Jazzmatazz, but only to the red parts of her mane. She was fresh from the bag never opened and the red parts of her mane fell out during the first brush with a comb.

Time for a rehair, I suppose!

Oh nooo, I knew some of the Avon and DG ponies had this problem but I thought they were the only ones affected by it :( So sorry to hear this, hair rot is awful.

I just got a G3 Pretty Parasol and was giving her a spa day but her pink hair was also coming out in clumps :( Same hair colour as Twirlerina so I get the feeling this problem is going to become more and more prevalent with G3s as time passes unfortunately :cloud: Good thing rehairing is an option

Oh noooo, I had this happen with a Petal Blossom! I went to comb her hair, and it just started coming apart in clumps! T_T I know this is a 'known' issue for some G3s, but I assumed it was the Dollar General and Avon ponies; I didn't think one of my average SLH's would just fall apart like that! (But since she came to me in a eBay lot, perhaps she was from a discount pack?)

I also had one of the DG ponies shred, but I was sort of prepared for it; heartbroken, but prepared! RIP Green Apple!

I think that I may have two ponies to add to the list of ponies with this issue: Glitterbelle and Tangerine Twinkle.
I cleaned a whole bunch of ponies today (tried to clean all of my ponies that I have doubles of so I can resale some of them).

Cleaned both of my Tangeringe Twinkles and one of them started to shed a bit (pink/red part of her mane)

They do have slightly different hair colors of hair, the one that started to shed had hair that was a bit lighter.
Doesn't seem like that much of her hair shed so maybe she could be saved.

The same cannot be said about Glitterbelle. Just went with my brush and all of her purple hair just fell out.
I did clean another Glitterbelle before the two that I cleaned today and I had no issue, the one that I cleaned after the balding one was fine as well.

So I'm unsure if this one had different kind of hair, it did seem to be lighter then the other ones.

Yeah she basically looks brown to me (the rust is really bad, I'll probably cut rest of the hair and clean her from the inside since I kind off gave up on her yesterday).
Also this one has basically no glitter for whatever reason.
