Is there a tutorial for Funko MLP Figures?
« on: February 06, 2016, 11:47:13 AM »
Hey pony peeps!

Is there a customizing tutorial anywhere out there for the Funko Pop Vinyl (the larger sized) figures?

I have a project in mind, and I'm sure you can just paint directly on the pony without removing the parts like manes, tails, etc, but is there a way to safely remove the parts if someone wanted to?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, y'all!

I haven't done the larger ponies, but I have taken apart the smaller mystery minis.. all that was needed for those was hot water.
One of the customizers I talk to said that the larger ones are harder to put back together after they cooled down

Thanks! That's helpful.  Was kind of thinking hot water would be enough to loosen any glue in the parts/seams.  Wasn't sure if it'd work on the glitters, too.

I think the person said she did a boil soak so not sure how long it would take to loosen up

I'd ask PrincessGryph or rather look for them on here as they have made posts on it. They are the main Funko customiser.

Oh hey! That's my post, yeah mine was rather intensive and included a table saw. It turned out though, that you can just boil them apart.

I boiled some larger Funkos in a pot on the stove to get the glue to loosen up and the plastic to soften somewhat-

Just kept taking the pony out with tongs and trying until it was finally loose enough...

Just did this exactly on yesterday, and it worked just fine on 2 of the 3. The other had some rather tenacious glue, but after boiling and loosening bit by bit, she came apart.

Now to remove the eyes/symbols and give them new life...
