Title: Help me back up my bold claim!
Post by: mercynova on January 15, 2012, 12:33:27 PM
Ok so chatting to my non-ponyfied boyfriend today about ponies I stated that, 'there are some foreign ones worth four figure sums'... But I'm not so sure which aside from the obvious Greek Ladybird, Takaras etc. Would anyone like to tell me about any relative unknowns that should be worth a small fortune? Pictures on top would be awesome!

South Africans? I would think if a SA Bow Tie hit the open market we would see a 4 figure sum? And probably someone like a genuine Reverse Gusty.

Its so difficult because how do you put a value on something that has never/hardly been sold and so rarely seen....this thread is going to be filled with drool worthy ponies!

The first one that came to my mind was Greek Baby Minty.

I don't think greek baby Minty would fetch over $1000 anymore, but the greek baby pegasi would, like Medley and Cuddles. And maybe the yellow haired Firefly I've found? ;)

And greek baby Moondancer too. One in very bad condition sold recently on ebay for $860.

I agree that Baby Minty probably wouldn't go over $1000 anymore, but she has in the past. Greek Babies Moondancer and Glory Might, as well as some of the Cuddles. Some of the Medleys might, but not all.

I've seen South Africans go over that price as well, and Reverse Gusty.

south african ponies, greek ladybird and greek easter candle pony.

the colombians used to fetch ££££ but the matket has dropped an awful lot.

i too am thinking perhaps the greek versions of cuddles, reverse gusty, greek baby moondancer and blue greek baby glory.

we still don't have a proper price range for the new venuzelan ponies ;)

The last 2 Thailand BBs went for around £60 [but very few people had spotted what they were]....I think the problem with them is we have never seen a well documented and advertised auction so we dont know what people really would pay for them. Even although there are only a few known to exist, at the moment, I dont know if they would hit 4 figures...but I guess we ll never know unless a collector sells one!

hathrocat is right we don't really have a ball park figure for the thailand boys yet, they have either been hidden or picked up a car boots (i am sure that is were ladyruby and lancer got their thai boys from) i would guess £60-£100 GBP at the moment though.

If there was one sold in a properly labelled open auction, I think they could be up there though :)

Prices are definitely dropping.  There was just an auction for a Greek Baby Moondancer (I think only the second ever...maybe the third) that ended under $1000.  I think it was $900 something so it was close, and she had a haircut, but still!!

Ponies I have seen sell for $1000+ or would probably sell for around there again:

-Greek Baby: Moondancer, Glory, Blue version of Bluebelle, Cuddles (any), Baby Medley (any)
-Greek Birthday and Ladybird
-SA Moondancer/Medley

The venezuelan ponies would be hard to price, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get up there.
