Pony Corral / Re: what do you consider bait?
« on: May 12, 2015, 04:34:10 AM »
To me a bait pony is:
-one that has no mane or tail or has a buzzcut
-one that has large marks/stains that cannot be removed and are just sticking out (faint marks are okay, I usually don't even notice them!)
-one that has missing parts (horns, wings, legs, ears, whatever you can imagine)
-one whose eye paint is badly messed up (symbol fading/loss is acceptable because it's quite common for G1s)

Of course my G3 standards are a bit higher, but then again I haven't really seen many bait G3s, except ones with many marks or cut hair.

Pony Corral / Re: So Soft ponies
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:06:09 PM »
I have 2 and I adore them both!  I have Shady and Gusty.  Shady's flocking is a bit thinner as she seems like she was played with a bit more; the flocking is worn down on her back right where a kid's hand would grasp when they were playing with her.  She's still pretty though, and nice and soft.  Gusty has a few rubs but otherwise her flocking is thick and lovely and fairly bright.  She has lovely hair, too.

Before I got a So Soft pony I figured they would kind of feel like those flocked toy horses that are everywhere.  You know, the hollow plastic ones?  A lot of those are fairly cheap and their flocking reflects that, but even the nicer ones don't have super flocking (don't get me wrong, I actually love those flocked horses, other than MLP they were some of my favorite childhood toys).  But So Softs are sooooo different!!  I was amazed when I first touched Shady (who I got before Gusty) because she really didn't feel anything like those horses!  She was so much fluffier, even though she does have some flocking loss.  When I got Gusty, she felt even more amazing because her condition is better!

I think I know those cheap flocked horses you're talking about   I had one as a kid and the flocking really didn't feel nice at all. Sure glad to hear that so-softs are far better than that!

I think they quite literally feel like the downy fuzz on a horses muzzle <3 Very velvety!

Or like that spot on top of a kitten's nose where the hair changes direction. ^.^ I don't have any flocked toys to compare with either.

I literally just went to find my kitty and touch that spot   now I want a so-soft even more!

Pony Corral / So Soft ponies

At the moment I'm obsessed with so-softs, even though I've never owned one. I want one really bad!  I haven't really had much experience with flocked toys, and when I did get a flocked toy in the past, the flocking was usually very thin and kinda scratchy and not as "cool" feeling as it's meant to be. However, I've heard that So Softs are extremely soft and fluffy, and my question is do they compare to any other flocked toy? How "soft" do they actually feel? What could you compare them to? I just want all the SS lovers to rave about these ponies in this thread LOL   because I'm really considering getting one, either through trading or just buying one, even though the ones with good flocking are usually quite pricey.

Pony Corral / Re: "Must Have" Ponies: Perception vs. Reality...
« on: May 04, 2015, 01:42:09 PM »
This is a great topic with many great questions!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I'm afraid I don't have any expensive/rare ponies in my collection yet, but if we're speaking about sentimental worth, my NSS Shady is the best thing in my entire toy collection. She's just so special. I could get every nirvana in the world, but she'd probably still be my favorite.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

That would be the same as question 1. (If we're talking about my personal collection. There are loads out there which I'd consider "favorites" even though I don't own them yet.)

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Honestly I have no idea. I haven't been a collector long enough I guess :D

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I don't have an answer to this one. There are just too many :)

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Any So Soft ponies (with decent flocking). As of right now, I really don't want anything pony-related more than so-softs.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Mostly individual, but there are sets that I wish to complete in the future, like Rainbow Curl, Rainbow ponies, Rockin' Beats ponies, etc.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Since the only "rare" pony I'd be actively looking for in the distant future is Mimic, I'd rather have lots of common nice condition ponies.

Pony Corral / Sought after ponies that you're not a fan of
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:14:31 AM »
I'd like to hear which of the most sought after ponies aren't really your cup of tea. Mine would be Rapunzel and almost all the boy ponies. Rapunzel is pretty, but not I'm not "wow-ed" by her at all. As for the boys, not really a fan of those hooves, and they just don't seem that special to me.

I'm not really keen on a lot of nirvanas. To me most of the originals are way prettier than their foreign variants.

(That being said, all ponies are cool, I don't hate any of them, I just doubt I'd be looking for any of those anytime in the future.)

I picked up this grubby Merry Treats at an antique doll and toy fair, after a thorough oxi cleaning, about an hour of magic eraser scrubbing and some serious deep conditioning, you wouldn't think she was the same pony!

Maybe Hasbro could cut costs and make G5.... using G3 molds!!   (if they exist still)

I just had this thought the other day about how cool it would be for g5 to be more similar to G1 and G3 since G3 was sort of like a throwback to G1 after the strange g2 sculpts
