Customs / Re: Going to attempt an Equestria Girls custom
« on: March 11, 2014, 01:55:42 AM »
I wanted to try my hand at making a custom of EQG Dolls even if I don't like the dolls.. but there is not white one that is fully articulating and my batting average with painting moving joints isn't great

There is an articulated rarity. :I

Weird, I found my fillies and checked a Flutershy of mine and AB was paler and lighter, she's from the fun at the fair set, and I tsted Scoots and AJ, Scoots was slightly darker. Maybe my AB is discolored?

I also collect mostly G4, haven't bought any others outside of yard sales since 2012. Though I also love the EQG dolls so they are taking up most if my time now. I still have tons of ponies though, I kept a good memory list of everyone for years, but I lost count and track with just how many ponies I have, nor so I have a specific place for any of them, so my room is just a mess of ponies...

IS her body that of Apple Bloom? Or do Fluttershy and AB have different color plastics? I really don't remember and I have no idea where any of my AB's went.

Hmm, Cheerilee and Lily have one eye shine it seems, and the gradient is missing from their iris's, that doesn't seem like old stock, but more like cheaper made stock.

Seems a bit sucpicious...

New head's too, so that's NOT old stock.

idk, my current two RR dolls have hair equal to my 'good hair' older dolls, and to that of normal brushables. The talking twilight and Pinkie I have seen in stores feel like they have the 'bad' hair from poking them through the hole in the box, but as I don't plan to buy them, I don't know for sure. Some colors are hair are more dry than others, like Rarity's pink, and RD's red is very shiny and silky, like that shade of red always is on G4s.

My RR basic Fluttershy appears to have the same good hair as older dolls because it's the same colour, but it's significantly less silky, feels a touch drier and coarser. RR basic Pinkie and Dash have different colour shades to their previous EQG/pony releases and they are the ones that feel really different. Maybe it's some kind of product in the hair, I haven't had time to wash or style them yet.
I like to keep box hair as is, just light brushing here and there.

I still wish they didn't have feet, I liked the peg feet because the shoes could be rotated around, and didn't have to have those dumb slits and be all rubbery to fit on the feet. The arms look worse too, the hands are all flat and fingers pressed together, older hands had individual fingers. :/

Oh god... the hands make me enormously unhappy! I didn't really care one way or the other about the feet since mine always have shoes on, BUT THE HANDS. TRAVESTY!
Yeah, it sucks, considering how nicely the hands looked before. And they look more shiny too for some reason. And from the toy fair pics, these hands are here to stay.

They look shiny because the new dolls are made out of different plastics. My basic RRs all have bodies made out of a harder, shiny plastic. No more rubbery/matte arms. The head of the RR basic is matte finish but also made out of rock hard plastic, completely unsquishable. You can bend the arms with some effort but they seemed like they might snap under too much pressure.

The hair of the RR dolls also seems to have changed, mine have soft, bouncy, thicker strand hair that's close to the current fashion style pony hair, just a bit less shiny/silky. Original EQGs had limp/coarse/cottony "bad" hair or bouncy/super silky/ultra shiny "good" hair. The RRs are kind of a middleground between that.

Urgh, I don't want SDCC exclusive ponies, especilly not all new fancy characters. I could never afford them and it'd just be rediculous. Hasbro's exclusives I can forgive, they're not the only time that pony is released.

Why not new characters would be amazing sounds like a perfect time to release Discord, since he has been in season 4 a lot, very popular with the bronies, and funko has even talked about making him. Thats's like saying you wouldn't want a new character from hasbro from SDCC?? Last year these SDCC funko ponies were very easy to obtain.
Because of it's a new character, the price will shoot up because it's not just a glittery release of previously released characters.

I love that Luna.  But why in the world couldn't they toss out DJ and replace it with Applejack?

These were my exact thoughts.
So we wouldn't have 6 recolors with only two characters? I mean, goodness, buy a 2011 AJ, she'd be exactly the same minus the rainbow stuff.

I still think S2 Luna's colors are too dark and low constrast and look weird in a toy.

ear holes

I have nothing useful to contribute, just wanted to remind that the ears would be hard to get around.

Why DJ and not apple jack? Kinda ticked about that.
Everyone is sad when it's just mane 6 releases, but suddenly one mane 6 member is missing and everyone misses her?!

I don't get it. She would just be a redo like the other mane 6 minus Twi, isn't getting one more new (for MCdonalds toys at least) character better?
