Restoration glitter paint? what do you use?
« on: December 28, 2012, 09:02:42 PM »
I've heard some people use a holographic/glitter paint to touch up paint on ponies during restoration... I have a couple ponies that need some touch up work to their glitter symbols

What kind of paint do you use?

Whatever color needed as a base coat, then a couple of layers of hologram.  So, for Majesty I used blue and then the hologram.  :)

I use small particle makeup quality for touch ups. It has a very fine particle size that matches the originals very closely. Thin layers in thinned down sealant. You could also use the wet and  sprinkle method, though this is a little less controlled (I don't like glitter everywhere!!) Paint the symbol with a thin sealant then sprinkle glitter. Lightly tap pony, then gently press glitter into symbol with brush or gloved finger (so you don't have rough glitter). I would seal after either process to prevent glitter loss

I mix a small amount of matte Mod Podge with micro glitter (super fine) from the hobby shop/craft store.  Then I apply it with a tooth pick or small brush.  Good luck. :)
