I always paint the area I'm going to place glitter on a darker color then paint triple thick acrylic on the area I want to apply the glitter, I rarely seal the glittered area after as I feel it diminishes the sparkle a bit.

I'll have to try it one day but I'm afraid my pony will loose all the glitter after a while.
GLITTER + GLITTER! GLITTER EVERYTHING! i usually put glue and then use loose glitter on top then add a light gloss to the top to seal it. loose glitter makes me kitchen look like a stripper exploded..
