Making a doll wig?

So, I got my Create-a-Monster vampire/sea monster set today, and I was incredibly dismayed to find that the crown of their heads was COMPLETELY hard. I had planned to root the sea monster's head, and there's no way I'm going to be able to get a needle through that. So, I want to see if it's possible to create a doll wig from scratch. (I want to use a color of hair that isn't available by any factory wigs, so that's out.) I already have the hair for it, its Dollyhair nylon, so it isn't wefted or anything like that. Is it possible?

I heard you could reroot a CAM. But I don't know how, I've just seen pics and heard about it through websites. Good luck I don't know about wig making.

Oh, I know you can. I've done it. I have done the bee girl, and I'm in the middle of doing the three-eyed girl.

The thing is, those two had heads that were soft all the way through. The sea monster has a really hard part on the top, hard as the rest of their bodies. If I were to reroot it, I could only root around it, and a large section would be unfinished. The only way I could get holes in it is with a power drill, which I am not doing.

What if you get it hot? Maybe heat is the key here?

it's not just a harder bit of plastic. It's hard-plastic. It broke the tip of my X-acto knife when i attempted to wittle a hole through it. I don't think it's just a matter of getting it hot.

Although....i do wonder what a hot needle would do in terms of putting holes through it >.>

ETA: Maybe you can buy the liv wigs and dehair those and reroot those. I heard that the Liv wigs fit MH CAM heads.

if you wanted to make a fur wig, that takes near no effort at all.
You just take two semi circles of fur and sew them together.

Silly idea here but I'm wondering if you could take a baby sock, cut off the toe end to use as a wig cap and make your own wefts to sew on or rooting it with the doll hair with the loop method (or whatever it's called; the method factories use on rooted toys).

i have made little wig caps out of muslin and then used a needle and thread method for ponies on it.  turning out pretty good so far, havent finished any of them because i have little patience and only do like 4 or 5 plugs at a time, but i have one over half done and it fits nicely.  I used fabric glue that was flexible on the inside and it stays on the head.
edit:  not glued on the head, just for the glue to make the hair stay in the cap when brushed

I think I might try cutting the hard plastic section out and then gluing part of a wig cap in the hole.  Theoretically is sounds easy, but it will probably be a lot harder than I think.

OR- You could cut a wig cap down small enough to cover the hard plastic area, reroot it glue it on and then root the soft plastic around it.  This might look weird though, since the wig cap will make part of the scalp higher than the rest.

Rerooting an already made wig cap seems like a pretty good idea, and I already have a CAM wig that i dont want to try it out on. I also saw a tutorial online that apparently uses glue and plastic wrap... Does anybody know how well that will work?

uuuuhhh! I tried that and all it did was make a large hairy mess.... :<  i know many others have succeeded though.
