Title: Shibajuku Girls
Post by: kCherry on August 29, 2017, 07:41:42 AM
Does anyone else have these girls? I nabbed all three of these babies and was surprised to find out this was the second series! Anyone know where the first line was sold? I adore these girls! I did an unboxing of Skizuka but I have yet to edit and upload it. (I was thinking she'd make a Great Pinkie Pie custom girl!!) I was really impressed by their quality and surprised that they were so well jointed everywhere but at the ankle!

Oh they are really cute! I love their clothes-

They look similar to La De Da or Liv maybe? I haven't seen them in the store, but I'll admit it's probably been at least a month since I went to Target.

I just bought one today actually!! their bodies are the same size as regular barbies, but their heads are HUGE (much like pullips)
I got mine at target, and I got her on sale :' )
I really want the black/white stripey one, but they didnt have her so I got the blue haired one.

I have plans to give her new eyes at least, since her default eyes are kind of ugly imo. I gave her a 1980s barbie skirt but everything else is hers to begin with.

Oh wow that's a big head there!

I wonder if they are "inspired" by Pullip's popularity...

Do you still have the box, OPM? I'd love to see the dolls pictures on the back of it since your girl is obviously from a different series as mine.

I thought of Pullips the first time I saw them, that's for sure.

Wow, I didn't know the Shibajuku dolls were going to be sold in America. They were created by an Australian designer, so they've been available here for months. I found them kind of interesting but never enough to pick one up.

Thanks, OPM! I hadn't seen Miki and Koe! Miki might want to be picked up to be made into an AiW Alice doll, if I can find her!!! ^.^

Thanks for that information, Tulips! I'd have never guessed they came out of Australia!

Yeah, they're a very basic Pullip clone. Dulljunk on Tumblr has made a couple posts about them and thinks they're just a recast of a modded type 4 body.

Its very, very easy to sculpt over existing joints, which is what Dolljunk thinks happened. It sure looks like its true from his photos.

Aw man, that really sucks that they could be direct recasts. :( I haven't bought any of the actual dolls because they're not my style, but man do I love the clothes. I have been tempted to buy the dolls just to swipe those. I bought all the clothing packs because they look really cute on my Hujoo Freya and my Kikipop body:

This one is probably my favorite set though. This is my Dollce girl on an Azone Kikipop body.

Aw man, that really sucks that they could be direct recasts. :(

While I wouldn't be At All surprised if it were true, I have a hard time believing that the cast was ripped off as they are being sold in places such as WalMart and Target. I would think more than likely the cast/ license was sold with the stipulation that something is changed, ie. no joints in the ankle. With the legal departments of such retailers being so thorough I highly doubt that these dolls are what we in the doll community consider recasts...
I dunno though. I'd like to know more! They are really cute!

Noxxbunny! I can't get over how Perfect their clothes fit your hybrid! So, so cute!!! ^.^

Noxxbunny, your doll is adorable!

These do look a lot like Pullips so me.  But, it's hard to know if they were illegally recast.  It's not like they're in direct competition with Pullips.  So a bargain could have been made or Groove just chooses to ignore them.  It's hard to imagine Pullip being sold at Walmart.  But we can dream.   I think I was once irked that the Shibajuku creator claimed in an article that there weren't any other dolls (on the shelf) like these.  But I'm over it.  :)

See I wouldn't expect Target or Walmart buyers to know ANYTHING about recasts or doll collecting specifics unless they are a collector!  After all, they sell pony fakies ALL.THE.TIME.

I'm thinking that the average consumer has no idea what a Pullip is, so it's not as important to verify the sources of the material ; Barbie is likely a much different tale!  And yeah, these Shibajuku Girls were an Australian product first, I cannot see any merchandise buyer scrutinizing each and every country's style of doll and comparing to something also commercially available, albeit in a smaller community like Pullip collectors.

I feel... like so.  ;)

Yeah, retailers wouldn't care. They carry knock off toys all the time

I absolutely love the Shibajuku dolls. I'm still trying to save up for one. But I'm fairly certain here we have the first wave still in shops. We also have these really tiny ones in Kmart here.

I'm not sure about them being recasts though, they do look quite similar to Pullips.

Although the Big Box stores actually do a pretty good job of keeping straight up bootlegs off the shelves-  if Groove investigated and found that the bodies were re-casts, it may be able to put a stop to them.  They just might figure that it's not worth it- since the heads are different and the bodies are definitely not a selling point for Pullip (I think a lot of the more serious collectors still rebody to Neemo flexion or some such don't they?)

i really want one, i literally dress like Suki every day lol! I love jfashion and even tho some of these representations are not the most *accurate* (especially the ones that try to do lolita fashion rip) theyre still super cute i was really excited to see something like that at Target :)
the only complaint i have is the eyes are a little dead-looking.... ;; i wonder how difficult theyd be to replace?
