Title: *hears crickets* Did Monster High really keep this forum alive?
Post by: karrie91 on October 18, 2012, 06:40:16 PM
I swear, ever since the new forum was made for Monster High only, this one seems... emptier lol.

So what have you dolly collectors been up to lately? Got any new dollies you'd like to share?  Or even a new outfit for your dolls? New wig? Anything!

:)

I'm more into ponies than dolls, but I have been getting more dolls recently. Of course I have several MH ones. They got me into dolls. Then I bought the four main Novi Stars which I am madly in love with. I want the one that comes with the playset but I don't actually want the playset. *sigh* I hope they make more of these dolls. I'm in love. They seem to be selling well. I see them on features at Wal-Mart a lot and some are half empty.

I also got three Catwalk Kitties recently and I am in love with these dolls. I hate how rare and expensive they are, though. :(

Yeah, I'll have to admit I've been spending more time on the MH Section...Maybe too much.

I've also been busy with school so I haven't been able or motivated to take pictures. >,<;

So far no one new has been added to my dolly family. I Might consider doing a couple threads here to bring people back!

I'm debating if I should get one of the MH Fakies the Midnight Dreams dolls to see if their clothes fit Livs or Moxie Girlz.

I have some cloth I need to make the time to sit down and make matching dresses for my two Freyas, I need to give a face-up to my new white Freya that arrived last week and I got an awesome cabinet from my hubby this week that is going to be turned into a doll house. I am also debating on buying http://www.doll-zone.com/pro_detail.asp?id=996 . I have been looking around to try and find some owner pics on the internet, but I guess she wasn't very popular as I haven't found much. I will take some pictures of the cabinet tomorrow to post for everyone to see.

I just got my first bjd but then I got sick and haven't been able to do too much with him yet. Except of course stare at him from across the room while stuck in bed. And I do that alot. :silly:

I got my second Littlefee a month or so ago...but now I'm hankering for my Souldoll Eliot. I finish paying him off next week and then I just have to arrange pickup (and hope his wigs come in time). I like my tinies but there's just something really cool about the really big dolls, and despite this guy being a massive impulse buy I adore him, and the girl I'm buying him from is the sweetest, most lovely seller ever. Buying local is the best.

I just received a new Cherry Merry Muffin girl.  An upgrade really.  The first Chocolottie complete with accessories.  My CMM set has jumped from zero to...um, way more than I expected at first apparently lol.  Don't even know offhand how many I actually have.  I also got found a Tonka Cupcake doll at a thrift store a few weeks ago.  It is the one I had as a kid.  It had her dress but no hat or comb :( I really need to take brag/collection pix of my collections...and then hide them away and stop buying for a long time lol.

I've actually dwindled down a bit on here totally, but I actually spend more time in the Dollhouse now-a-days. :D

I updated my Pullip a bit. :D

I highly prefer the Dollhouse slow over 99% MH spam. There were sooooo many threads, at one point 20 MH threads on the first page alone and most were just pic threads when there was already a thread for MH photos. It was insanity.

But lately I haven't really done anything much. Its too cold to go outside and my one good indoor photo area was taken apart, so I can't really do anything anyways. I "locked up" most of my girls under saran wrap for the winter and probably spring too the other day (the dust here is INSANE). I had to leave a few Livs and various other dolls out, so maybe I'll be able to get a few photos at some point.

Though I did get some neat doll stuff on a vacation to visit relatives in California recently. :D

We got to go to In-N-Out again! This is in Vegas.

And I got a mini wooden artist model doll! I absolutely LOVE these things, and I've wanted a small one for a while.

Spoiler
Three chairs! The big red one is mostly for my Moxie Teen, so she can be displayed better. The white ones are the perfect size for Livs.

Pumpkins! I couldn't resist grabbing them for Halloween/autumn-themed shoots.

Clothes! The dress is beyond adorable and I love the shirt. Not sure who'll end up with the shirt and/or shorts, but Hayden is hanging out in the dress and skates.

And saving the best for last, I got my first Calico Critters! I thought the upsidedown packing error was just too hilarious. They're the perfect size for Livs.

My grandma also has "orders" to sew me a Barbie-sized tent, sleeping bags, toe bags, fancy dresses, some normal clothes, and a human-sized doll carrying bag. I'm really excited, especially for the tent! :D

So glad to see so many replies! I know a lot of people are putting dolls on the back burner right now, especially since they're more expensive than ponies.   :(

Me, I've been getting into collecting childhood barbies. It's.. not the cheapest hobby. I'm trying to focus on all my collections at once. It's tough though. Moxie Girlz is one I wish I could add to.. but that is hard considering I can't find them anywhere.

@Grassshackgirl That little pumpkin outfit is absolutely ADORABLE!!!!!! And that zombie looking doll is creepy but cool at the same time! lol

@Knibitz That teddy bear is so cute! I think it's neat that you're into making them. I love the look of old fashioned Teddy Bears.

@LuvlyMelody If you do get one, please let me know if they fit Moxie Girlz. So far, the only clothes I found to fit good are the Winx dolls and they don't have fashion packs.  >_<

@DazzleKitty I too love the Novi Stars. So far, I just have Una but I want Allie so badly. I'm thinking of putting her on my Christmas list though or waiting for a good sale. I may even like them more than La Dee Das. I just can't decide. Both are the same price but I feel both are over prices. You know? Hoping for a price drop around the holidays.

@Tiella That doll is amazing! I could never be able to afford any kind of doll like that, but if I did, I'd totally get something non human like. They're just so realistic and beautiful. I hope you end up with one. From those pictures it looks great.

I'm a moderator at Finnish ABJD forum so most of my dolly talk goes there and the forum's IRC channel  :blush: I do read this forum quite a lot, too, but I don't comment as often as I could.

At the moment I'm spending quite a lot of time making my own BJD from Apoxie Sculpt. I made her head from other material over a year ago, now is time for the body. She will be a flat chested, pear shaped about 40cm/16" tall girl with two sets of ears (wing ears and medium long elf ears). Her name will be Nami, meaning "sweet thing" in Finnish and in Japanese it means "wave". I'm thinking about casting her in resin when she is done, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. I would have to do it myself as I don't want to have dozens of her running around, just one for myself and there are no companies who're willing to make just one resin cast.

Working on some clothes for my ladies, but I just recently made a ball-jointed sock monkey for stop-motion animation.  I gotta get on that and make some movies, but I just had an operation and I'm recooperating.

I'm sort of glad that MH has been given its own forum, and I'm sure that the MH enthusiasts are happy with it as well:)

You guys, this forum isn't actually dead. There are 8 threads with new posts in less than 24 hours. This forum tends to have mostly more pricey dolls as the focus of most posts. They also tend to have fewer new releases and far less often. When you aren't running to the store picking up a new one every few days for a low price (comparatively), the forum is going to be slower. It's not a bad thing. As some others have said, I like that it's slowed down a bit. It gives me a chance to see the posts before they get pushed off the page.

I guess that is a good point kat. :P Unlike MH, most lines don't have a constant release every few months. I take back what I said about it not being active or dead. >,<;

Good point about being able to see the posts before being pushed off the page Kaos; As much as I love MH, I'm starting to really expand my collection BEYOND BJD's, MH, and Pullips.  I've started collecting 80's dolls (specifically those I had as a kid-for more nostalgic reasons), Moxie Teenz...pretty much what ever lovely catches my eye.  BTW, does anyone here subscribe to Doll Magazine?  I just wanted to know if it's worth the subscription.

o.O Crickets? Maybe it seems that way, if you don't visit often, but I actually think the Dollhouse has taken on a new lease of life since the MH forum was created, and I love it!

I got a great deal on 2 Pullips from eBay, from a lovely seller, and have done my first custom :)

Wut? I think this place is wonderful since the MH move, I don't think it's slow at all! It was never super busy before MH anyway. :)

I'm luvin Pullips as much as ever, have a Ddalgi on the way and today I'm taking a few last pics of my Re-Fananatica before I ship her to her new owner (I found the original a little while ago and prefer her).

And I just put this awesome guy on layaway!  (he won't make home in time for Halloween, but I'm excited to bring him home for Christmas!)

Yay! Another Zombie Sol will be on the board! I'm hoping to get mine by Christmas, too. =D

I've been pretty bleh lately, so I'm taking little breaks here and there. I did get in a Dollmore Dollpire Shiloh boy and another Alice's Collections order in. I keep buying shirts and girly things, but no pants. My poor boys... Oh! And a Volks mini girl body for a floating F-11 head. The body is quite yellow compared to the head, but I'm not too bothered. It was cheap and serves its purpose.

Other than that, aside from the Zombie Sol, I'm taking a dolly break. For the next few months I'm gonna be focusing on retro gaming. Maybe I should look into posting pics of some of my dolls tho... I talk about them, but hardly show them... =^_^=;

It seems like it always has. There's plenty of new topics being posted and commented on :) They're just not buried underneath a bunch of others.

I wish I could love bigger dolls. That Ring Doll zombie is absolutely amazing. I keep looking at pictures, he's so weird and full of awesome. Congrats to you two bringing him home.

I've been socking money away like crazy. I don't know what my employment is going to be like after November so I'm not buying any dollies right now. My last splurge is this gorgeous custom Blythe, by Melly Kay. She's the queen of the doll room right now.

Not to be a downer of any sort, but normally I mostly only collect playline dolls, and I noticed a lot of people of the Dollhouse are mostly into BJDs by comparison to others. I don't have BJDs so I can't really relate as much as I want to I guess. Maybe that's why I feel kinda intimidated or having the feeling of it being kinda slow. >,<;

Well I just ordered my first BJDs and then found out I might not even get them 'til next year. LOL.

So I guess I won't have anything to post here until then, besides my Pure Neemo Nyaruko coming in next month (along with a new Nendoroid and Figma). My AmiAmi orders are getting a bit crazy these days.

I seriously sobbed though when they told me my dolls wouldn't be in for 8-10 weeks. I dropped my entire 2-week paycheck on them, then realized I could have done layaway and still had money to spend on myself between this paycheck and the next (and received the dolls at the same time). I am such a moron.

Yes, I want them so bad, but they are sooo expensive over here! Yay for liquidation!

And yeah, I don't collect bjd's and the like. I don't have the money to all at once spend a few hundred dollars on a doll. Not that I don't want to. But, my parents would KILL me lol I also really like Pullips and co, but I bought one and we didn't bond so I've kind of given up on them. I want a J-doll, though!

That's kind of how I feel too.  I don't even know what BJD stands for lol...ball jointed dolls?  I don't collect pullips or blythe or any of the collector types of dolls.  I collect Cherry Merry Muffin, MH, Disney princesses (ones I like, usually holiday, Disney store exclusives or ones from the 90s), Cupcake dolls and other childhood dolls.  It seems there is very little discussion on playline dolls and if there is it seems it is all modern rather than vintage ones.  Even vintage SSC and Rainbow Brite seem to get the shaft so to speak.

I don't collect BJDs either. I wanted one for a while, but when I got my Hujoo... I don't know. I don't like the way strung dolls move, no matter what kind of plastic they're made out of. It's so icky... It feels so lifeless to me. I'll stick to Pullips.

I'd love a BJD.  I've even had a couple picked out, but my husband doesn't understand spending $25 on a playline doll.  He's certainly not gonna understand spending BJD prices.  I showed him one I was interested in (and it was cheap, as far as BJD go.  $150 I think) and he just kept saying "$150 for THAT?"

I gave up.

I also don't like how big they are. I'd rather have an adult than a child, but the adult sized dolls are just way too big for my tastes.

Not to mention, their gigantic size makes finding clothes a pain. I wouldn't spend $25 on a shirt for myself, let alone for my doll.

Yes, I did! I keep admiring her, she's so awesome! I want Meygana next.
But, I went on a toy rampage this past week and need to stop lol Jade J'adore, Walmart GR Abbey, Robecca Steam, wigs for some cams, the skeleton cam and torso, some lps, a blindbag pony....yeesh, I'ma be broke! I was gonna buy the ddg three pack next week as well, but now I think I might wait. And I am waiting for Zellers liquidation to get some LIVs and Fashionista Barbie's.

THIS! Oh my goodness, I was FLOORED when I first saw how much people were charging for MSD/SD clothes *faint* Even for simple, plain, handmade things that would fetch a dollar or 2 if sized for Pullips are upwards of $5!

My poor RS Mei has hardly any clothes at all because of this, while my Pullip&Co are rolling in them.

With BJDs, I think it really helps if you can sow your own clothes for them. I don't mind spending a bit of money on clothes and stuff for my dolls, but when a clothing item costs nearly equal to, or more, than the equivalent for myself would, that's a no-no. So if I ever get a BJD, she will probably only get one outfit and stay in it :P

Quite honestly, I have the doll boards on ignore and only come in to check in occasionally because most of what is posted is MH.  I do like MH dolls quite a bit, but I don't collect them so it made sense to me to ignore the board and just periodically check in to see if there was anything interesting.  Otherwise I wade through MH to read all the pony stuff.

Also, my doll collecting is much smaller and slower.  I only add every once in a while.

Most of my dolls are packed in storage so I don't get to see them much.   All my sewing stuff is also in storage, so no new clothes for the dolls either.  I also don't have a regular flow of disposable income so my dolly purchases are few and far between.  Reading this forum can be depressing if you don't have money!

I've been studying for several tests. Statistics is kicking my ass. As a result I haven't had time to spend with my dolls. ;.; I bought nendoroid Len today at an anime convention. I wish Good Smile Company would release better stands. >_>

I've kinda fallen off of the internet since we moved...we moved from VT back to MS and it took me a few weeks, but I finally have a job, and I've just been getting back into the swing of things.  I do LOVE the fact that MH has it's own board now though, so I can keep up with the other dolls.  I just check MH to make sure I don't miss any new releases, otherwise I stick to this one.  The only recent doll purchases I've made are my Winx Tecna and my Disney Designer Maleficent...I have purchased a few new clothes for my BJDs though, and I dug my custom Bratz Babyz out of storage.

I used to HATE to pay some of the prices for BJD clothes, and there are still a lot that I just DO NOT understand, but I have figured out that I am willing to pay for quality...plus, unlike me, the dolls aren't going to wear out their clothes, and they can wear the same outfit for weeks in a row, so I don't feel so bad paying a little more to get what I really want for them.

Totally would be in here stalking this thread but I've worked the past so many days!  >_<

I'm glad everyone is still into dolls other than MH. I so wish I could find Moxie Girlz around here. I recently got the cutest Hermione Granger doll, a gift from my ever spoiling sister. She's in the box, but is displayed so cute! I need to take a pictue and share.

I also have a new barbie! Oceans Kira finally came, well Marina since she's the European version. I absolutely lover her <3

OMG MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD BABRIE, HOW DARE YOU /cries Just kidding, I just haven't been able to find her for a good price. My name is Kira and when I was kid I wanted to be a Marine Biologist and I also wanted to be Japanese, haha. So, my mom bought her on a whim and she was sooo special to me. I lost her on a move, though. Could I see some pics, perhaps? 0 30
