Buddy List?

When you click on someone's profile it says Add to Buddy List. What is that for? What does it do?  Thanks!

I'm not really sure what it adds if someone is one your buddy list.... I know more about the ignore list.  hmmm

The only thing I have noticed is that when you have someone on your buddy list is, if they are online you can see their name in bold at the top of the topic/forum amongst all the other names online at the same time. And also it puts an odd little double square icon beside their name.

There's a very short definition in the Simple Machines manual.

"A Buddy List displays all of the members on the forum whom you have added as a “buddy”. This list will also show their online status and contact information if available."

So, I guess it doesn't do much. However, I've been thinking of trying out some of the buddy-list related add-ons I've come across to see if it adds much functionality to it.
