Making a custom - where to start?
« on: April 09, 2014, 09:18:00 AM »
Ever since getting into ponies I've wanted to make a custom but I'm not sure where to begin. I've tried looking at online guides but they're usually not detailed enough or go into far too much detail which ends up confusing me. So I was just wondering how you guys did it? What kind of paint do you use and what's the best way to keep the pony looking as if it were "real"?  ^.^

Check our where to start and tutorial thread. And most of us use Acrylic paints.

I usually start by design.  Once you know what you want to do, then you can start gathering the supplies.  Basically starter kits:

Bait Pony (prepped with acetone to remove eyes/symbols)
Hair if desired and method for rehairing (rehairing tool, wire, doll needle, ect)
acrylic paint (thin it out and do multiple layers.  Let them dry completely or you'll get streaks)
sealant (testors dullcoat and mod podge are standard)
brushes or cosmetic sponges for paint application
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.
