Yesterday I found a Dream Beauty at the thrift store! There’s this awesome thrift store that has a ton of toys (unlike most these days) and it’s one of my favorite places to dig around. The owner knows the approximate value of the vintage toys that come through and doesn’t generally put G1s on the sales floor, which is fair, her prerogative. (Last she told me, she had an arrangement with another collector in the area.)

But Dream Beauties don’t look like G1s and I was surprised to find one stuffed behind some model horses and G4 plushes!

I’ve never had a Dream Beauty before and never expected to find one in the wild. She was $2! She is in well-loved condition, for sure. I managed to get her respectably clean and I tamed her hair.

This past year I also had some more luck finding G1 ponies and G3 ponies. Still very rare, but more than usual for me.

Wingsong was from the same thrift store as the Dream Beauty from yesterday (I assume because she also doesn’t look like most G1s).

Powder was buried beneath stuffed animals at a church rummage sale, quite randomly. She’s in poor condition, but I’m glad to have rescued her. The September birth flower pony was a happy find at a thrift store near me. I almost didn’t buy her because she was priced at like $5.99, but I’m glad I did since I would have paid more trying to buy her online!

Finally, I found these four together at one of my other favorite thrift stores.

I hadn’t found ponies in years, especially G1s, but this past year has been randomly modestly successful!

Pony Brag Arena / Birthday gift -- High Tide
« on: October 25, 2020, 11:21:58 AM »
My parents helped me buy High Tide this year for my birthday! My goal last year (and this year) has been to complete my Year 3 sea pony set, but it's slow going. This set is ridiculously hard to find, and when they are found they are *expensive.* This one came from Etsy. I was so grateful to get this pretty girl with her pink hair  She has a marker (?) mark on her tail, but I don't mind it. So happy to finally have her! Thanks for looking!

(sorry the pictures aren't better! shell if you're curious is from Clipper's Sail)

I'm selling the uncommon so soft pony Taffy on Ebay this week! She's listed with my items under the username rockettglory. Her starting bid is very cheap! Check it out. I also have a few Tokidoki Unicornos for sale and will add Pokemon cards later.

What do you do when you can't afford upwards of $700 to buy the real Baby Sugarcake and Baby Gametime? Ask Pandabear_chan to make you adorable custom versions! She did a fantastic job. They arrived Saturday, already styled with cute little curls in their hair like the originals. I'm so very happy to have them :frolic:

As if that weren't enough, I had seen a Baby Medley she had made previously and had to have it. She made me another one! I'm in love.

. . . or, "first world pony problems." I've been collecting for about 20 years now, or longer depending on when you start counting, and that's given me time to have nearly completed my collection. It makes me very happy to look at my display case and to remember the stories of finding each one, and how nice it is to have certain ponies after wanting them for years. I love them and feel really lucky to have the ponies I do.

The problem is (and I know this sounds really spoiled), pretty soon, there won't be any ponies left that I want. I enjoy buying HQGIC ponies and other customs, so there is that. But as far as original G1 Hasbro ponies, my pony wish list is down to about 10 ponies (!) and some animals/accessories (mostly the princess dragons). If I can actually find those last ponies, I will technically stop collecting, which is really weird for me after collecting most of my life!

I can't really complain, but I feel a little sad about it, and directionless? (lol, this is why I said this is a first world pony problem). I know there must be other collectors on here in the same boat or similar boats. What did you do when you completed your collection?

Pony Brag Arena / (Late) Pony Fair finds!
« on: August 25, 2019, 09:27:51 PM »
I went to the Pony Fair for the very first time back in July. I was one of the favorite experiences this year! I knew I'd want to buy a lot and saved up money and sold items from other collections so I'd be ready.

First, some pictures of the sights! I apologize for my lack of photography skills ^^;

I took a picture of my purchases altogether as something of a memory/keepsake photo. Many of these are ponies I'd wanted for a long time and I was so happy to find them ^.^

Today I listed a G1 bait lot that would be great for someone who likes to customize or restore ponies. There a few somewhat uncommon ponies in there as well, like Baby Crumpet, Star Hopper, and Baby Rainfeather. Also listed in separate auctions are sparkle Baby Sea Spray and Baby Wavy. Check them out here!

Pony Corral / Discoloration on a Baby Dancing Butterflies?
« on: May 30, 2019, 08:43:40 PM »
I removed my Baby Dancing Butterflies from the display cabinet the other day and saw that she has some pinkish discoloration on her back left leg. I've had her about five years and I don't know her history before she came to me. It's kind of odd to me that a yellow pony would have pink discoloration -- this couldn't be peroxide cream showing up late, right? Any ideas? I don't think it's treatable, at any rate.

Pony Brag Arena / Finally -- Baby Milky Way!
« on: May 30, 2019, 08:38:22 PM »
Baby Milky Way! I've wanted her ever since I was 12 (15+ years now!). Finally, I made an offer on an Ebay auction and the super-nice seller agreed. Here she is!

I love stars in general and I love her symbols, especially the little stars on her cheek. Her hair is soft and silky and she's just so cute. I'm super happy to finally have her  I really wanted one in nice condition and variation with the blue streak in the middle of the mane, and she's perfect.

Thanks for looking!

It's been a little while since Baby Sea Spray has had a collection to call home, but she's now been cleaned and washed and is ready to begin a new chapter in her life. She's ideal for the collector who wants to come home at the end of a long day and see her sweet smile coupled with her beautiful color scheme and super-silky hair. Her hobbies include people-watching and posing on a desk looking nice, and she'd love to show you. She gets along great with other ponies and doesn't need to be walked, fed, or taken to the vet. If you think you can provide a forever home for Baby Sea Spray, bid on her today! She's eager to meet you.

:heart::heart::heart:

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Pokemon Go -- who wants to be friends?
« on: June 24, 2018, 01:41:31 PM »
So Pokemon Go added a friend feature this past week and I thought it would be fun to be friends with some Pokemon Go-playing Arena members! We could send gifts (and trade Pokémon, but only if you’re very close by as trades are conducted in-person)

I don't think I'm allowed to post a link on how to send gifts, but if needed you can Google the topic and lots of good info comes up. If anyone needs help I can answer some questions, too (though I'm still learning how to do this since it's a new feature!) I think for safety's/privacy's sake, we could PM our trainer codes to each other instead of posting them publicly, since this sub is visible to non-Arena members Edit 6/30: Kiwi has pointed out that if you put your trainer code in a spoiler, this will keep it hidden from non-Arena members as only Arena members can see spoiler content. So if you'd like to keep it semi-private, just put your trainer code (and username because it's helpful) in a spoiler! ^.^ Mine is:

Spoiler
9638 8265 1243 (my username is PinkNinjaKitty)

Looking forward to being friends with you guys! Post here with your thoughts and your trainer codes :)

Pony Corral / Price check: HQG1C Frost?
« on: June 14, 2018, 09:00:32 PM »
I have an opportunity to buy Frost (the white Big Brother HQG1C winter blank pony; My Little Wiki link here), but I'm really not sure what sort of price is fair. I haven't really been following the HQG1C price points and since I'm not sure he was ever individually sold I have no idea where to start  ^^; Does anyone have a suggested fair price or price range?

Pony Corral / Did you have any rare ponies as a kid?
« on: February 25, 2018, 08:59:30 PM »
I've been thinking lately about the fact that rare, sought-after ponies were originally, of course, childrens' toys. It's a little strange to think about (just because I've been in the collector's mindset so long!) -- a kid playing with a TAF baby or Mountain Boy, for instance. People who had rare ponies as kids, how does it feel to see them so expensive now? Did you like the rare pony when you were a kid? Do you like it now? Do you still have that pony? What are your thoughts and experiences with this?  I'd love to hear.
