Some updates on newly discovered ponies to suffer from this for people who don't frequent the TP.  :(

Thanks for sharing! I have some ponies I didn't realize were known to be affected by this. Thankfully they all seem to be fine for now, but I'm definitely keeping a closer eye on them.

My Tripsy Daisy came to me with practically NO dark pink hair at all, so I rooted her with the heartthrob pink I had to make her all nice again, so I'm not surprised to see her on the list. Will deffo keep a beady on the others... as well as a good stock of that shade of pink as that seems to be the worst colour for it

The issue is caused by Hasbro being cheap and using polypropylene hair for certain ponies instead of nylon. In addition to feeling awful and being prone to frizz, polypropylene also disintegrates over time. A bunch of HQG1C ponies have polypropylene hair too which sucks.  >_<

You can try to boil perm it. Polypropylene doesn't curl nicely like nylon.

Oh god, do you have any idea which HQG1C ponies have polypropylene? I didn't know they might be affected by this too >__<

Polypropylene just kinda feels stiff and crunchy and is very difficult to manage. I think this video by plastic_heartzz on youtube does a better job at explaining it than I'm capable of lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4MQ-xO8ohA (they begin to talk about polypropylene hair at the 15 minute mark btw)

I wouldn't worry about mermaze dolls having polypropylene hair as it's not really something MGA currently uses. Almost all MGA dolls nowadays have nylon hair. The only *recent* MGA dolls with poly hair that I know of are the color change OMG dolls but they have it due to the color change gimmick working best on that hair type.

Clipper himself has actually stated it in this thread: https://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=397529.30

There are definitely other ponies that use it. I have heard from people that own the babies Candy Cane, Holly Berry, Dreidel, and Lil' Star that they have it. I have also heard from people who own the blue nippon pony that she has it. I wouldn't be surprised if the other nippon ponies had poly hair too. I have a set of the playful babies and all of them have it. I have Snow 1.0 and she has it too (well... mine HAD it. she's currently being rerooted...  :P) Those are just the ones I know of, there's probably many more.

this is sadly very common with colour changing hair as well, my so soft soakey dokey has terribly matted hair , i am going to rehair that stripe with non colour change hair when i get my paycheck!

Polypropylene hair is non-porous, unlike nylon hair which is porous.   Nylon hair will get soaked if you run it under water, whereas water kind of slides of poly hair.  So that's an easy way to check.

It's important to note that G3s often had a lot of different releases, so for a lot of ponies there will be versions with nylon hair and versions with poly hair.

Most of the time Hasbro used poly if they were doing a pony for a discount chain (like the dollar store ponies like Green Apple), Avon ponies, or "bonus ponies".

^ This is what I mean by bonus ponies.  Hasbro loved adding extra ponies to playsets.  But it costs money.  (The playsets were priced the same as single pony playsets.)  Which is where the cheaper poly hair comes in.

I'm guessing only the dark pink hair in that specific bonus set is poly? I own 2 Meadowbrooks from that set, and 2 Star Swirls, Swirl has... not as nice hair. And my original MB has straw curls that have lasted since what, '08 (through at least 2 other homes before coming back to me) xD I'll have to check my CC and Sparkleworks from that set.

I can confirm for the list - Midnight Dream's pink hair absolutely does fall out. Mine went bald a couple years ago, and I just recently got around to rehair her.

Nooo, Midnight Dream, she's one of my favorites!  ;_;

When I hear about poly hair breaking it's usually pink or red hair.  I'm not sure if that's because it breaks more frequently than the other colors or because Hasbro mostly used those colors.  Rainbow Flash does have poly for all her hair colors, though. Poly does seem to come in lots of colors, as I've been vaguely following Monster High news and there are lots of complaints about G3 MH using poly hair.

Im a bit concerned about my misty blue because she was from a discount set this is a bit disappointing to hear about because I was thinking about getting more g3s and a lot of the ones I want are on that list I will definitely move my g3s out of the window when I get home

Jumping in to commiserate on disintegrating polypropylene hair on HQG1C ponies. :( Sadly this has happened to essentially every one of my curly-haired HQG1C's. I've tried deep conditioning and flat ironing, but it is very laborious and it barely helps. I also suspect any improvement only lasts until the hair is slightly moved. The ponies I have that are afflicted are
- Jolly Dasher/Jolly Treats
- True Blue (Alternate Hair)
- all 4 Sweet Treat Sisters
- Blue Baby Tipper
- Green Baby Tipper
- Yellow Baby Tipper
- Glitter Wishes
- Lucky Star
- Flow
- Pizzaz

I also have Trick-Or-Treat , Star Spangled, Moonglow and Moonlight, but I'm terrified to touch their hair for fear the frenzied frizz fiasco will overtake them as well.

I've also noticed that the mane of Baby Emerald/Aqua, although not curly, is a very strange texture. It's different from her tail, and it's different from Baby Marigold's mane and tail too.

Beyond disheartened to hear HQG1Cs are being made with this hair. ;_; Especially the boys... Oh man, I really wanted Trick or Treat too, but now I'm worried I'll just be setting myself up for eventual heartbreak :(
