Sculpting Help
« on: October 10, 2012, 03:59:18 PM »
This for for all the lovely customizers who have been posting their photos for the Masquerade swap.

I'm thinking about sculpting a mask for a Halloween pony that I'm working on.

How did you go about the process, and how does the mask stay on the pony?

Thanks so much!

I covered my ponies head in Saran Wrap then sculpted the mask on and let it dry. When I removed it, it was too loose to stay on on its own. I had intended to glue some ribbon to it or magnets to hold it on. Instead, I added more clay to the back of the mask when adding feathers to it, then pressed it back onto the face with no Saran Wrap and let it dry. It dried with a snug enough fit to the face that it needed no ties.

I would suggest magnets. Insert one in the mask when sculpting (or some wire that gets drawn to the magnet) and glue a magnet inside the ponies head.
