Title: Care Bears!
Post by: Bekuno on January 13, 2017, 02:23:08 PM
We could always use a Care Bears topic. Especially after seeing one WYP thread in particular, I though a discussion would be good.

I'll start off by talking a bit about my collection and my favorites.

Though everything is stored away in the attic for now, I own almost one of each bear from the 2002 relaunch excluding anything that was non-US. One Christmas my parents got me every bean bag 6"(?) bear, including true heart and noble heart. The only plush I no longer have was my big 3' Grumpy Bear! I believe he was donated. I currently don't own anything from before or after this line toy wise. I still have all my VHS tapes and DVDs in my room. This is the majority of the Nelvana series and the DiC series plus three movies and the original special.

My favorite bears are Wish Bear and Work of Heart Bear. My favorite cousins are Brave Heart and Noble Heart!

As for the lines, I love the original 80's bears, the 2002 bears, and I have mixed feelings about the current generation. Though I like how they look, I find the smaller selection to be boring (and goodness do I hate that cozy heart can't talk). The show is cute but not a favorite.

I'm very fond of the original 80's art work and toys as well as how they appeared in the DiC series.  :)

I loveeeeee Care Bears! I have several older ones I've rescued from Goodwill or other second hand places and I have some of the newer ones. I have all series 1-4 of the blind bag characters and the target exclusive care bear figure collection. I also have a cute little duffle bag and a quilted blanket that I hang up on my wall.
My favorite would be Grumpy Bear (he's so grumpy I just can't help but love him) and Wonderheart Bear (that baby face!) I'm also a super big fan of any of the cousins.

My favourite film growing up was the Care Bears movie, and whenever we went out, I would watch it in the car or at Nanny's home. I think I still have some merchandise scattered around my basement... I also loved the 80's and 2002 bears. I also have two Care Bears Christmas ornaments that I just absolutely love! When I move out to college, I'm most definitely taking them with me!

Never got into Care Bears when I was young, but I like them.

There's so many of them I can't keep track of them all (yet), but I like Lotsa Heart Elephant. I always welcome a pink elephant, and I think her name in Italian translates to "Tons of Love Elephant", which I find adorable

I love the 80's Care Bears too but don't have a lot of Care Bears stuff. I have two original 80's bears Champ and Cheer, several pillow bears, the hardcover story books and some of the miniature figures and also a few of the beanie bears.

My favorites are Wish Bear and Love a Lot Bear.

I like Care Bears too.  I had a few toys as a kid including Lotsa Heart Elephant plush, 2 keychains, 1 ceramic bear, cement bears painted like different bears (one for each of us kids), and PVC minis with 2 collector cases.  My aunt had all of the PVC Care Bears and she always let me play with them.  She kept them in a crystal bowl in her china cabinet.

I loved the Care Bear movies as a kid.  My gramma had the first one recorded from TV and one of my friends had the second one on tape and I always wanted to watch it at her house.  Now I have both on DVD and some of the 80s cartoons on DVD.  I don't care for the new Care Bears toys or cartoons.

My favorite characters are Baby Hugs and Baby Tugs, and Gram Bear.  I collect the 80s toys including plushies, PVC minis, and some random merch that I had or wanted as a kid.

I used to watch the 80s cartoons when I was a kid, as well as read the books with my grandma, and I remember one time my dad buying me a 2002 grumpy plush, though I don't believe I ever owned any toys aside from him.

Once I have my own place, I'd like to build an eighties collection of the carebears toys, and an eighties collection of Strawberry Shortcake, which I also played with as a kid

I've been hoping for good reboots of both series to happen at some point lol

I think I only had one or two Care Bears growing up. I'm like 98% sure I had the 2002 Share Bear, the other may have been Cheer Bear or Love-a-lot Bear. I don't remember the one I had...but I always remember the ones I WANTED  I know I always wanted Good Luck Bear or Wish Bear. Or Bright Heart Raccoon. Honestly he's my favorite out of them all. Never did get to have one. >_< Still my fav though.

I LOVED care bears when I was a preteen. I was obsessed. My mom used to buy me the two pack plushies. The little ones that liked hugged each other and were sewn together. I would cut the thread that held them together. My older sister still has my whole collection at her house. Since me and my BF are trying for a baby she said that when we finally get pregnant, I can have the care bears for the nursery. I'm really excited. I had quite the collection.

I also own both of the movies and still know all the words lol. I was OBSESSED. I wore care bear clothes, had a grumpy bear sweat band. Bedtime Bear was my favorite though. I miss the care bears.

I had care bear bed stuff too but my comforter got ruined when lava lamp fell on my head. I would rebuy that blanket in a heartbeat lol. My preteen years were probably the best years of my life. So I associate care bears with it lol

love love love the carebears, and i was able to get some of the blind bag figures that Dollar General had last year! I also discovered an artist on DA that does carebear art even though he ah has highly questionable views, but his work feels like the classic 80's .
my favorite carebear had always been wish bear and lots a heart elephant was my favorite cousin, I think I still have the original plush I had when I was a kid. i've been trying to find a decent copy of some of the movies favorite one was carebears in wonderland

I had one Care Bear growing up - Wish Bear.  I got him when I was a baby (my mom bought all of us Care Bears when they were the hot toy) and I still have him.  Mine has seen better days, but he is well-loved and he knows it.  :)

Currently, I have him and a handful of other vintage bears I've picked up while thrifting.  I have:

another Wish Bear
Birthday Bear
Lucky Bear
Bedtime Bear (my other favorite)
Funshine Bear

and a few I need to list for sale.  :)  I should take a pic of them.

I believe I know the artist you're talking about. Do they draw ponies too? I really love their art but goodness I can't support them as a person!

I'm seeing so much love for Wish Bear and it makes me really happy! I wonder why she seems so favored among us :) Same with Bright Heart Raccoon!

Mewtwofan1, I also have an ornament! It's an older one I recently obtained and I love it dearly.

I used to have some episodes of the 80s cartoon on video when I was little! *happy memories*
I have a few of the 80s vinyl Care Bears, mostly they've turned up in pony lots. And I have one plush (Tender Heart, I think?) which I found in a charity shop. But I'm not really supposed to be collecting anything else except ponies and dolls....but Care Bears are really cute....
From what I remember of the cartoon, my favourites were Good Luck Bear and the lion.

Oh you have the shiny fabric ones! I remember those.

Ahhh right, her symbol was changed. There's been a couple of bears who had that. I also found out that Proud Heart was a bear instead of cat in the 90s!

I collect 80's Care Bears stuff and I collected the early 2000's stuff.

80's stuff I collect are
-12" plushies
-6" plushies
-poseables
-PVCs
-ceramic banks
-mugs
-glasses

I think that's all for the 80's ones.  Everyone should post their collection pics!

I have a photo somewhere of my bedroom when I was a baby - my mother decked it out in Care Bears stuff. Unfortunately, I never really cared (no pun intended) for Care Bears much until I became an adult.

I don't collect them, but I do have a few things - Grumpy Bear beanie (2016), Grumpy and Funshine figures (2016) which are on my desk in front of me, Trueheart Bear small plush (1985-6), a couple of other modern plushies and some vintage clear plates I got from a charity store.

I like care bears I dont have a whole lot of them I do have a few favorites. Like cheer bear. I had her when I was little. Just the toy not the stuffy. That I can remember. I loved rainbows. I still have a few kicking around here but I think they are mostly current ones. I have a small vintage cheer bear. So I guess I still like them. Someone in a swap once gave me Champ. I think hes cool always being into sports and things. :) I used to watch the old 80s cartoon also.

I loved Care Bears when I was little! I love the eighties/early nineties stuff. I had some vintage plush (my first was the Cheer bear plush Ponyfan has), the smaller plush, and some of the flat pillow-style ones, as well as the movies on VHS and some tv eps on the golden book tapes. I also have a few of the hardcover books. I'd love to complete the set! Hubby gets me care bears from skill tester machines too, so I have a scattering of the newer stuff as well.

I technically don't collect Care Bears, but at a thrift store I picked up two vintage Care Bears to sell (so I thought). It seems that Wish Bear is here to stay, though . . . she's nearby now as I type and I don't think she's going anywhere. She's sucked me in . . . I think it's because she's a pretty shade of blue with stars; can't resist, ha ha.

This thread has made me wish I still had my copy of the Land Without Feelings, Care Bears Battle the Freeze Machine and the Care Bear Storybook ( they might also be the Dic cartoons) cartoons. I know there was one about a Cloud Worm and one about a girl helping Professor Coldheart turn a city in to concrete.

Another long-time Care Bears fan here.  With as much crossover as there is in these two fandoms, I'm shocked there's never been an official crossover in their media or toy lines.  I would totally buy bears (or better yet, equine cousins) with pony cutie marks as tummy symbols and ponies with CB tummy symbols as cutie marks.  Especially when Hasbro had the manufacturing rights to CB toys.  Sigh... a wasted opportunity.

The first two specials (Land Without Feelings & Battle the Freeze Machine) were made by the long defunct Atkinson Film-Arts.  Storybook was Nelvana's series, but DiC's episodes were the best (Cold Heart, Cloudworm, etc.).  Nelvana had No Heart as the main villain.

I was absolutely obsessed with Care Bears when I was younger! CB was for me then what MLP is for me now

I grew up in the 2000's, but around that time they sold tapes of episodes from the Care Bears Family show from the 80's, so I have multiple tapes of it, and I used to re-watch them a lot when I was really young; I listened to the theme song again in recent years, and got hit with a sudden wave of nostalgia

Don't have as many memories about the 2007 incarnation of it, but I probably enjoyed it, because I remember having a toothbrush themed around it back then.

(Also, my fave bear would have to be Work of Heart, I'm such a sucker for creative/artist characters ^^)

Huge Care Bear fan here!! I was super lucky that my mom kept all of my old 80's toys. As a teenager in the late 90's I started collecting Care Bears and MLP again, they were super easy to find at garage sales and flea markets. I have most of the 80's bears in 13" and 6". I'm only missing the rare cousins and a couple UK bears.

I also collected the 20th Anniversary bears and as far as I know I have all the 13" plush. Sadly my bears have been in storage all this time, since I moved out in 2004. I kept them at my mom's until last year when we moved to a bigger house. We are developing the basement and I will have a pony/80's toy room to display my collection. I can't wait to get all my bears out and on display, it's been way too long.

I have the movies on DVD and one of them on VHS that was still mint in it's wrapper until my son decided to rip into it.  :pout:  I also have lots of random episodes on DVD.

And my daughter had a care bears themed nursery when she was a baby. I had kept everything for my sister and when she found out she was having a boy she donated all the girl stuff and sadly all the care bear nursery bedding, mobile, etc was in that stuff.

Now a days I don't actively collect care bears since I have pretty much all of them that I want but I do still pick up any that I find in thrift stores. My best thrift store find was actually some carebears. I almost left them there since I was hunting for ponies and assumed that I had all the 80's bears already. I put them back on the shelf and walked away. I couldn't remember which bears they were but I did know they weren't the main characters so I decided to run back to the toy section and get them anyway. They were only $2 each. Imagine my excitement when I got home and looked up who I found!!! UK bears and they were MINT!! These are the stars of my collection now.

Yep, Bekuno is right, they are UK Daydream Bear and Surprise Bear! I was so incredibly lucky to find them in a thrift store in Canada. They were never released here and they are so minty. Makes me wonder if they used to belong to a collector.

Thank you! I just adore my Care Bears and can't wait to get them all on display one of these days. :)

My favourite bear is Cheerbear. I found a vintage plush of her on Etsy years ago and that's what sparked my collecting.

I have the DVD with Forest of Lost Feelings... and also the whole 80's TV series on DVD.  Plus several plush and a few vinyl characters.  I will have to get them out of storage in the shed to take photos, though!

The Forest of Lost Feelings DVD was a fun find, the cashier at the thrift store tried to refuse to sell it to me, cuz it "was supposed to be with the collectible things" and I told her that was very unfortunate, the donations staff had plenty of time to figure that out, but I am buying it NOW at the regular DVD price.  Thankfully she realized that I wasn't one of those customers that one wants to irritate - I told her, "okay lady.  you call your manager, void this sale and we can start all over, because now I do not trust you.  How do I know you haven't scanned something twice?  C'mon, empty those bags, I know I have two carts worth of merchandise, but if you REALLY want to make a fuss over a $4 DVD and get your manager involved, by all means, I will allow you to, but you're going to start this transaction over again."  Thankfully she saw the asinine idiocy of harassing a regular customer who spends at least $100-200 every time I come shop, plus making an epic fuss and angering the rest of the other customers and labeling her as untrustworthy and trouble to her manager.  Just keep the line moving to sell your stuff, thrift store, don't make judgement calls about what comes to the cash register....

Those belong to Shy Violet! Not me! I was just clarifying for Ponyfan before Shy Violet answered.  ^.^

I wish I had those guys. Maybe one day.

Here's something odd, I found out that the 2000's release of Proud Heart Cat was.. blue. But I don't remember my plush being blue!

Also, I want to know, do you guys prefer the DiC series, Nelvana series, or something else? I'm a big fan of the DiC series.

Can anyone tell me what is edited from the Land Without Feelings DVD version if anything. I keep seeing a bunch of stuff on the Internet that claims it is edited but I can't find anything about what is left out. I still can't find my VHS copy   :|

The Dic series is the one I remember most. I might have watched a few episodes of the Nelvana series on Disney growing up but it's the Dic series that has stuck with me all of these years. I do plan on getting a Nelvana series DVD just to see what that series is like.

I LOVE Carebears
I used to have a plushie of almost every one (Mainly Bean Bags and some other ones, I also had the creepiest talking Funshine ever, a retro Tenderheart from when my cousin was a little girl, and a HUGE Bedtime Bear) I remember especially loving the Cousins (Had every one but the Pig (Forgot the name of it) But some jerk broke into our storage and took our chest (Probably took them for their kids) we lived in the worst apartment ever at the time, anyways We still have one from when we were little

along with all of our old DVDs (A bunch of Re-releases from the 80s and 90s cartoon)

Along with a hand stitched carebears ornament our aunt made for our mother before we were born.  I'm planning on re-collecting then as soon as I can, I would like to at least re-purchase my favorites (The Playful Heart Monkey and Loyal Heart Dog Beanies were  my favorites as a child)
Now as for films My Favorite has to be the 2nd Carebears Movie as It's the one we grew up with, we still watch it sometimes for nostalgia too.
Yeah... I'm kind of a 2000s kid

OMG I loved Carebears!
As a kid, they turned out to be easy gifts for my family to bestow upon me, I had:

all of the classic little plastic figures + Cozy Heart Penguin; none of the plushies as I am not really into cuddly toys

Duvet cover

I still have a roll of Carebear wallpaper in the attic somewhere

Soap sets (heart shape with bear transfer on top, kept in box as they were so pretty)

VHS of the Carebears Movie - Eartha Kitt voicing the spooky green book demon! "Nicolassss, Nicolasss!"  :devious:

the original Panini sticker album (dark blue cover with big red heart) there was a craze at primary school for collecting these stickers + my folks had to ration my pocket money so that I did not spend it all on the stickers! I remember the smell of the stickers as I opened the packet... swapping our doubles in the playground on Monday morning...  nostalgia... and the little shop where I bought them from "10 packs for £1"

^^ditto for the little pastel blue MLP sticker album

If I see the odd random plastic one at bootsales or charity stores, I will always buy them if they are going cheap  :P

Thank you Artemesia Floc, they were quite the find!! I love them to pieces. Now I'm hunting down the rest of the UK bears and cousins.

My favorite movie was the 2nd one and I also adore the Nutcracker one but I haven't seen that one in a long time. I really need to watch these again.

As for the TV series, I'm not even sure which series is which so I'll have to look through my dvd collection and figure that out, lol. I never paid attention to that.

Bekuno, I don't remember her being blue either but mine are all in storage so I can't check. :(

I wasn't sure which series was produced by what group until someone explained the difference between the Dic series (Professor Coldheart) and Nelvana (No Heart)

What are everyone's thoughts  on Dark Heart and No Heart? Did Nelvana just think that villains with Heart as part of the last name sounded good? Or are Dark Heart and No Heart supposed to be related in some way? I don't really see them as being related as they don't have anything in common except for Heart in the name. Can anyone tell I wacthed the 2nd movie last night.  :)

Are there better episodes of the Nelvana series than others? I watched "A Day without Tugs" "The Care Bears Fabulous Safety Game" and the one where Grams reads Hugs and Tugs safety rhymes and Hugs and Tugs imagination starts to run away with them as Grams reads. Although enjoyable so far I like the Dic series better. To be fair I grew up with the specials and Dic series featuring Coldheart, Frostbite and Auntie Freeze so that may be why I didn't enjoy the Nelvana series as much.

Nelvana has some good episodes. I prefer the first half of the Nelvana cartoons to the second half myself.

There's a really cute St. Patricks Day shirt with Good Luck Bear on it at my local walmart, I might pick it up soon  :)

The first season of Nelvana episodes are the best.  After that, it basically boiled down to Grumpy, Champ, Cheer, Brave Heart, Bright Heart, Treat Heart, Grams, Hugs, and Tugs.  A good chunk of those episodes were either Star Trek parodies or set in prehistoric times.  I'm not fond of those episodes, personally.  But some good Nelvana eps:

Home Sweet Homeless
The Big Star Round-up
The Long Lost Care Bears
Bravest of the Brave
The Cloud of Uncaring
Birthday Bear's Blues
Order on the Court

Here's a full list:

Thanks everyone. I'll probably give the Nelvana series a couple of more tries.

I finished the DIC series last night. I think the "Magic Mirror" episode is why my mom said I didn't like Auntie Freeze.
