UKPonycon in the News
« on: October 07, 2012, 12:01:14 AM »
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2213442/Our-friends-think-crazy-Hundreds-grown-My-Little-Pony-fans-flock-special-convention-honour-animated-series.html

The Daily Mail picked up on the UKPonycon. What's nice is their article is actually written pretty nicely compared to some articles on the fandom and doesn't seem to be going 'lol look at the weirdos' (although the comments of course are a different story)

Daily Mail in sensible article writing shocker!!

I read the Guardian piece yesterday and it wasn't so nice, does anyone have a scan or a link to it please? Also, The Sun were taking pictures yesterday so there should be something today. They took my photo, they asked my permission and I stupidly didn't ask who they were with until after I'd said yes. D'oh.

I read this yesterday, I wasn't overly fond of it. I couldn't get the writers tone - whether he was being cynical, or trying to be funny, or just a bit ignorant.

It's a nice article but what horrible comments!!!  Some people just trawl these articles purely to write nasty comments though, so if you ask me, who's the saddo there?  Certainly not us!!! x

Yeah if anyones got a link to the Guardian article I'd like to give it a whirl xx

*sigh* I know there is no such think as unbiased press but the Guardian article could have been a little more subjective I think, personally I am not finding anything positive in that at all.

Someone posted the Daily Mail article on Friday, personally thats at least a little friendlier I think although the opening sentence about the Con being for people who are fans of the cartoon seems odd.

Yeah he's coming off as rather snarky. :/  And seems to be going down the 'oh what a weirdo' thing.
It bugs me when people get really snarky about collectors, I wonder if these people have never collected anything or even been a fan of something.

Just bought The Sun and flicked through but I haven't seen anything.

I think the Guardian piece plays on the fact that people like to feel superior to others, so by being snarky they're saying 'It's ok to look down on these people.' Sad but true.

I totally agree, it does give off that kind of attitude. It's a shame they feel this is acceptable reporting. But I suppose it's hard to find unbiased reporting now.

I think these articles pretty much said everything about the types of publications:

The Mail are all for sympathetic piece for young ladies enjoying their nostalgic childhood; the guardian went for the irreverent angle and the Sun just wanted to harrass for a picture of the pretty lady - she knows who she is!  ;)
I'll be interested to see the Sun article when it comes out

Oh and BTW the Guardian journalist was a woman - interesting people think it was a bloke?

I was disgusted by what that witch wrote about us in the Guardian and the blatant attacks on specific people. I've voiced my thoughts on the Ponycon forum though... It's just sad that people have to be negative towards things they don't fully understand. Aside from the pathetic little people who have made comments, the Mail article is way more positive. I wish they'd leave the comments section off, or at least make it so you as a reader can hide it/have to turn a feature on to be able to see it, so that we don't have to see what stupid remarks these morons come out with....

(edit because I can't spell)

Huh. I just read the guardian article and it was just plain weird.

Also, she was much nicer to the men for some reason.
