Title: Legos
Post by: BlackCurtains on April 04, 2022, 11:29:03 AM
I did not until recently know that Lego had such a variety of sets. Like the one of Jerry's apartment on Seinfeld. Or the flowers and bonsai tree. Or the flat ones like a poster you can put together. My mind is blown

My oldest niece was super into Legos and I know my mom had bought her one of the Hogwarts sets. Thing was huge! She put it together in like 2 days

I really don't need another collection, but I think the prices are fair. There are a whole bunch I'm interested in now. I like the animal sets, the pandas and the tiger in particular. I wish they had more Halloween stuff or a horror category. Can you imagine like the Amityville house? Or a graveyard? That'd be so cool.

I still have my childhood Legos which was a starter set. You could build a house with it and it had little window planters for tiny flowers. It's from the 80s so it's very basic. I was looking to get rid of them but I think I'll keep them now.

Do you have any cool sets? Does anyone collect them?

I like Legos...some of the fun little details on the sets are so cool! I only have one set--the Harry Potter set featuring Professor Umbridge and the giant, Grawp. I'd like to get more...the Hogwarts castle would be really awesome.

I bought a big box of Legos recently. :)  I had some while I was growing up but didn't become interested in them again until I saw some people building stuff with them and it looked like a lot of fun.

I wanted a box of Legos that could build multiple things instead of something specific but now I'm starting to look more at the more complex sets.

look up lego elves!! That whole series is amaaaazing and I have collected several sets. I think some of the disney princess sets are quite cute as well as some of the friends animals sets, but absolutely the best series is lego elves. I would have loooooved playing with them as a kid, but Im kind of glad that they came out more recently so I can get them with my grown up salary

I used to collect Legos! I was obsessed with Lord of the Rings sets in middle school, and Lego Friends in grade school. I don't collect them anymore, but I love going to the Lego store and looking at the Ideas sets.

However, my boyfriend actively collects Lego Star Wars. We have a lot of fun finding sets and building them together. But it is an expensive hobby -- more expensive than ponies because there's not much at flea markets

bricklink!!!!! I got most of my sets there, if you wait you can get used sets for decent prices- and I got one of the really big sets for about 30% less because it was missing one of the flag pieces or something like that

I desperately wish that Lego would make a re-run of all their wonderful old sets so I could buy all the ones I wanted but my family couldn't possibly afford.

Where are my Space Police, my Rock Raiders, my Pirates, my Fort Legorado and Indian sets, my  deep sea divers...

eta: I can't afford the fish tank right now but I bought the tiger  It's a 3-in-1 and you can also make a koi fish and a red panda, plus some plants. I haven't put Legos together for a long time. I'm excited

Congrats on the Tiger.  :)  Legos are fun to put together.

I bought the Classic Creative Fantasy set at Walmart today.  It's listed on Lego.com for $90, but it was only $60 at Walmart.  I thought that was a pretty good deal.  :)   I've also been looking at the $10 3 in 1 unicorn set.

I still haven't found the fish tank in stores yet.

Wow!  That's a lot of steps.   I've head great things about the tiger.  I think it's really interesting that you build the tiger from the inside out. :)

I made a Lego binder to keep all of the adult sets instructions in and also the extra instructions you can download on Lego.com for the classic sets.

Title: Re: Legos
Post by: Ponyfan on April 28, 2023, 04:17:43 PM
I started putting the tiger together today.  I spent about 2 to 3 hours on it so far and only got the first 2 bags done.  I've had to go back and stick parts back together because they fell off while adding something else.  A part fell off of somewhere, but I don't think it's a critical part and I didn't want to try taking one of the legs or the body of the tiger apart to figure out where it came from. As long as it's not effecting the display, I'm going to leave that piece out.

I have nowhere else to talk about this but I am kinda disappointed with the direction that lego Friends is going in :(  It's like they're trying so hard to be NOT GIRLY that they're ending up making boring sets, or ones that look wierdly over simplistic or too childish somehow?? and then slap a massive price tag on it. I mean, this is the last ocean rescue set from a couple years ago:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

not too girly, right? detailed, lots of play value, fun for an adult to build too and cute to display.
and this is the one they just released:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It looks like a kiddie play land, and not in a fun way :( They have created some slightly more interesting sets, but they're all in the $100 plus category, and they're not AMAZING they're just slightly better than most of the other sets. There is already a lego city theme! Why do we need what is basically a weird sort of minimalist recolor? (also a BUS?? seriously, a BUS for $70 come onnn) I don't think I'll be looking for any of these, which is not the worst thing haha!

I put the Paris skyline together today.  I lost track of the exact time, but it probably took about 4-5 hours to finish.  I had read some reveiws that said the arches of the Eiffel Tower didn't stay on or would break if you used them, but I was very gentle with my set and although they fell off a couple of times, I was able to put them back on.  I also read that the Effiel Tower didn't click in to place.  I did have a little trouble with that part, but it was because I had put the hooks that hold the Tower on wrong so I had to fix them before I could attach the Tower to the base. I had to rebuild the Arc de Triomphe a little because I messed up on the roof.

My girlfriend loves Legos. She had the HP train station with platform 9 3/4 that we put together last week. While on vacation we visited a Lego store and she got a LOTR character set. Like the ones where they are Chibi looking versions of the characters. We looked at some of the bigger sets but they were out of our price range for the moment. I like Legos and think they’re fun. I grab them second hand when I find them (even itty bitty bits at the bottom of “the bins” Goodwill outlets). I kept all my brothers’ legos from childhood. My grandmother still has the basic bucketful we played with as kids. My daughter recently got the Disney Princess horse stable set. For what these sets cost, there is very little to them. The sets have gotten so…bare, sparse? It’s just the frame of the front of a stable basically,  though it’s still an expensive set. I wanted the Disney 100 Peter Pan set but it’s over $100 and not very big.  I like them and think they’re neat but think they’re way overpriced.

It would be cool get a vintage castle set. I have seen haunted house sets, but again, super expensive. Shein or Temu have what looks like a cemetery and witch pumpkin hut. I have also seen HP sets. My husband still has his childhood sets put together.

I bought the Lego NES a couple of years ago for my kid's birthday (it took me 2 days to build it). It was amazing, with a little hand crank TV that showed Mario going across the screen doing Mario things.

Anyone interested in Elves LEGO?  We have a bunch of sets that we would like to sell, but our local buy/sell/trade shop says they are not very popular, so they wouldn't take them.

I saw the 3 in 1 Giraffe set today.  I also want to get the fox.
