Title: If you have cats, what litter do you use?
Post by: BlackCurtains on December 02, 2021, 11:59:50 AM
I'm fed up with cat litter! -_-

I've used Arm & Hammer for years. Never had a problem. I started using A&H Clump and Seal Slide to make my life easier. Everything has been okay except for the last two boxes I bought. It's awful! It tracks everywhere, it sticks to my cats paws, and it turns to mud in the pan. It doesn't stick to the plastic, like it says, but that's the only good thing I can say about it. I'm mostly annoyed at the tracking. Litter is EVERYWHERE in my house. Including my bed! Every night I have to sweep my sheets before I lie down. My cat has her own little bed on my bed, but the litter still manages to get everywhere.

She gets it in her paws, stuck onto her claws and in the soft furry center of her feet. I have to take her to the kitchen sink and dig it out. And if it dries before I see it? I can sometimes crush it with scissors so it crumbles but most of the time I just have to yank on it and it takes her fur with it.

Please help! :(

A note: I honestly don't know how she would react to something that isn't clay. I have vague memories after she was spayed of using pellet litter and she went outside the box, but that was so long ago. I'd rather not risk it. She's 19 and doesn't like change, so it has to be clay litter.

Litters that are already on my 'no' list:
Fresh Step Clean Paws (lies!)
Arm & Hammer (what I use but they switched the recipe or something)
Tidy Cats (I do not trust this brand)

I have used Tidy cat for years.  The dust is awful, but I find it clumps the best.  When I use Arm and Hammer, it does stick to my boxes very badly.  And I too would get litter in my bed with Arm and Hammer.  Even when I make my bed in the morning in attempt to keep litter out during the day, at night I pull back the covers and there is the litter in bed!!!

I don't think we have the same brands available, none of these names ring any bell... (or the same product can be sold under different brand names in the US and Europe, I guess)

I've heard a lot of good about EverClean, but it is quite expensive. We currently use Racinel Take Care which has active coal mixed in. It isn't dust free like the bag says, but I find the quality ok for the price. It forms clumps that are hard and easy to scoop out, and it stays odour free for a long time so you don't need to replace the whole amount as often as with cheaper brands. That said, we try to keep the litter boxes pretty full at all times - that way the clay doesn't stick to the box - or to the paws! - as badly. But yeah, the litter is everywhere.

Thanks :) EverClean is available here but it doesn't look like the other one is. And actually, on Chewy.com EverClean comes up as the first for 'non-tracking' litter. It is expensive though... but not much more than A&M Slide. I'm actually considering a non-clumping litter. The granules are bigger so I think they might stay in the box better and won't stick to her feet. Besides, non-clumping along with a box liner would be so much easier to clean plus a lot cheaper. Now I just have to find a brand I like.

I have used Tidy cat for years.

Really? The lightweight version was recalled several years ago for being dangerous for the respiratory system. That's why I won't use anything of theirs. Maybe I'm too paranoid, haha.

I use unscented Tidy Cats. If I try to use anything else even the lightweight version of unscented Tidy Cats my cat Eclipse will use the floor instead =P I hate how cat litter tracks. I don't think there's a kind that doesn't track and even if there was Eclipse would flat refuse to use it.

World’s Best cat litter.
I’ve used it for years and tried switching a few times but always go back to it.

I use the red bag, multi-cat unscented but there are a few different formulas with different scents or for different needs. They are apparently coming out with a new unscented low tracking dust control formula next year. I plan to try it to see how it compares to the one I’ve been using.

We use Scoop Away - it clumps much better than anything else we have tried including Tidy Cats and World's Best.  It is not dust free but does control odor well and doesn't track much.

I usually get an own brand from a super market but I usually get the fullers earth  clay ones I also put paper at the bottom then a litter liner more paper then the cat litter so it’s easier to change 🐾

I can get a 50lb bag of non-clumping Kitty Diggins (which is a Walmart brand, I believe) for 8 bucks. I'm going to try it. I'm just sick of the litter everywhere and in my bed especially. It even gets UNDER the sheets. How does that even happen?!

Papers at the bottom is a good idea... I bought some liners too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep these in mind if I have to go back to clumping litter.

i use arm and hammer clump and seal slide for multi-cats along with an omegapaw rolling litter box .
so far we haven't had that issue with the cats but we also have huge litter mats the help keep it under control.

I am currently using Catsan non clumping cat litter, in the past I have used supermarket own brand clay litter. I don't use the clumping kind as it is like cement to clean off the bottom of the tray. I have actually been struggling to get cat litter :( I tried some wooden pellet style cat litter and Amber didn't like it one bit.

Liners are helpful unless you have a digger, Angel would dig, get her claw caught in the liner and tip everything on the floor.

Newspaper on the bottom is a great tip from Aflame, I remember doing that many years ago :)

Love pkw xxx

So far the non-clumping litter isn't tracking all over and I don't have to worry about it sticking to her feet. I put a liner and some paper in the bottom.
