He was my favorite actor. :( Definitely a part of my childhood, adolescence, and even my adulthood. He played the main character in the first movie that made me cry. I had heard he was somewhat public about his bipolar diagnosis, and I loved him even more for it. I'm so sad to hear about this!

Guys, let's leave the suicide talk to a minimum. I'm afraid Off Topic isn't a place for something like that. I know this was a horrible thing but we try to keep OT light and happy, so let's try to bring this thread up a bit if we can. After all, he was a wonderful comedian who spent his life making people laugh. I believe he wanted the world happy. I really think he'd want people to keep laughing and celebrate his life with joy. There is another thread in WYP if you just can't keep things lighter though. We all need to mourn in our own ways. I can certainly understand that as well.

Much agreed! He made us cry, but he also made us laugh. I wanna lighten the thread up too, so I prepared a spam of funny faces via Google Images.

I loved him in Death To Smoochy, by the way. It's an R-rated film so I'm not going to go into detail, but it's one of my very favorites and I can't imagine his character being played by anyone else. It's perhaps my favorite performance that he's ever done.

What are your favorite Robin Williams movies? :D I also loved him as the Genie in Aladdin.

I last watched him in online clips of when he appeared in the American version of 'Who's Line is it Anyway', can't find a link though. Look it up, it's his quick  sense of humour at his fastest!

'Mork and Mindy' got me through my A-Levels, and provided me with a range of lifelong catchphrases. Off to read my 'Mork and Mindy' annual now!

My two favorite movies and it's tied are Good Will Hunting and Dead Poet's Society.
As a little kid I watched Mork & Mindy. He was one of my favorite actors.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I adored Flubber when I was little. I loved it so much! I had a little toy of this robot which had a holographic screen and, tilting it back and forth to see the image change on long car drives, it felt like a priceless treasure.

I didn't recognise the name when I saw it on the news and heard everyone talking about it, but things have sadly clicked now. Terrible shame. But so much respect.

His career spanned decades and he was one of the very few actors who could play a wide variety of characters and make you believe it. He was phenomenal in dramatic movies like Dead Poets Society, Patch Adams and What Dreams May Come. He made me laugh till I cried in Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire and RV and his characters were unsettling in One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

In honor of Robin Williams comedic brilliance, I'll be watching his movies all week long with my hubby. Robin spent his life making others laugh, I think the last thing he would want is for everyone to be sad, his life deserves to be celebrated!

All the people who have come out and spoken about him in the media and on the internet prove how very much he was loved.  His legacy is immense: not only did he give us a huge number of amazing and unforgettable comedy performances, but he was also really good at making his characters relatable, and there's a lot of warmth and humanity in many of his performances.  And now I think I need to go away and watch Dead Poets Society and Mrs Doubtfire again.

Exactly!! He was a brilliant actor!! I can't think of anyother actor/ess that could do comedy, drama, and creepy.

I have to say his Genie made me laugh so hard I had tears!!! Most of those lines weren't scripted and were made up on the spot!! Brilliant mind!! I also loved Patch Adams, it made me cry in a different way (but still good).

Rachel-Eyes, those photos are typically Robin!! I love the one with the line, 'why is it called rush hour when no one moves?".

I've changed the title a little so it's a good time rememberance thread. Lets talk about the good movies he was in and why they were great for us.

Sadly many creative people struggle.

The same can be said for brilliant people and he was both creative and brilliant.   I was always amazed at how so many of his lines were on the spot improvisation.  And the fact that he could play any part. I remember early on when he started doing serious roles that he said something about how at first people were going to stereotype him into comedy only until he showed what great depth and emotion he had.  I admire him for breaking the mould he was almost put in.
