Let's do another off topic poll. (I credit GameFAQs.com for the idea.)
I prefer it to hang over the roll. ^.^ Under the roll is akin to blasphemy and is not tolerable. :razz:
Sometimes, it might hang out on the sink counter before it makes it to the holder though. That's risky however, as it could fall into a damp sink. :blink: Not fun.

I actually prfer to stand it up on my counter beside the toilet instead of on the actual dispenser. Cramped turning positions to get the tp and all but even so I prefer for it to sit on the back of the toilet.

Over the roll. The cats prefer it unrolled and on the floor.

I'm with you, Stomper; must hang over the roll. My old roommate and I could never agree on this; we each kept changing it! :P
But I'm also with BlackCurtins; my cats will unravel it. So now the roll stays in a cabinet above the toilet, and the point is moot.

Our toilet paper holder thingy is missing its bar so it just sits on top of it.

I prefer under the roll because the animals I live with (not talking about my pets :P) tend to leave it unrolled onto the floor, which they also leave dirty because they can't aim. Thus under the roll: one quick downward swipe of my hand has it rolling back up neatly.

Over the roll is the right and only way. The lid of the toilet must also be kept closed at all times the toilet is not used. Otherwise I'll become really difficult to live with.

I always feel that if I keep it under the roll, it will get dirty by being dragged along the wall :P it's kinda silly, but there it is ^^
oh and yeah, many a toilet roll has been a victim of my kitties as well ^^

Under as kitties unroll. Also must keep the lid shut as tiny cat keeps trying to fall in.

Over the roll! It drives me crazy any other way. If someone puts it under then I take it out and fix it :P

I like it over the roll too.

If I don't put it on the roll, then Barnabas (my kitty) will destroy it. (He does the same thing with paper towels). He will also unroll the roll if I install it the "correct" way, even though there is a toilet paper cover over the roll, AND the trash can is also placed directly underneath.
I guess when you are a cat, you have a lot of free time on your paws to figure out how to work around these tricky situations.

shoot i meant to vote underhand xD it used to be over, but my cat learned how much fun it was to spin off an entire roll one morning, so we had to swich to under, no more TP cloud in the bathroom

Lol. I so don't get people's obsession with this. I just shove the roll on the holder any old way! If anyone comes to my house and wants to change it then they are most welcome to - I probably won't even notice :D

Under as a holdover habit from when we had cats. When my son was small, this came to mind:

so I just kept hanging it the same way in hopes he was never tempted (he wasn't).

Whoever designed my bathroom should really re-consider.... it takes some real stretching to get to the TP holder, which is about 2 feet away!
Our TP get placed on top of the hamster cage in front of the toilet, so it does not hung whatsoever!

How dare you ask me this when my TP holder just decided to suicide and fall INSIDE the toilets?
It's not our own house, so we can't just screw the thing on the wall, we have to use these stupid suction cups ... since we bought this holder I knew it was going to end up badly as it fell down every 2 days, I finally decided to superglue it to the wall, seemed to work, we leave for one night, come back and BAM! ... no more holder ... we bought a new oe, same system, hope he'll hold longer!
Ah, and under, of course, unrolls better ^^

True and amusing story: My grandmother hung her toilet paper with the end hanging over the top so my mom does and I do to. To me it was the only way that made sense. One day I asked my grandmother, "When did you decide to hang toilet paper this way?" Her answer? "My mother insisted the only correct way was under so as soon as I had a place of my own I hung mine the other way!" :lol:
P.S. As for cats... My husband's cat found toilet paper to be a fun toy (my cat has never been so active) so the first time I went to his place I couldn't find the toilet paper. It was in a metal covered holder. We still have the holder and use it for spare toilet paper but we have the toilet paper on the roll holder too (rolled over, of course). Did I break his kitty of his bad habit? No, rather his kitty is such a playful one that he broke a number of bath and beauty items by knocking them off shelves, so he has been banished from the bathroom and we keep the door closed now!

Wow! Your husband puts toilet paper on the roll? That's the most amazing thing I've ever heard. That's why ours sits on the counter. I finally decided it wasn't worth the struggle and went with it.
And kudos for knowing the right way to hang it!

we used to hang our toilet paper on the hanger but my son kept getting the rolls and throwing them down the toilet. The roll now sits up high on top of the toilet

mine just stands on the top of the little drawer next to the toilet - I couldn't hang it even if I wanted to, as it's about 5 times thicker than a usual roll. dad runs a firm that's around toilet papers and paper kitchen towels, and they make these super long rolls (which I get for free ^^ ).

I love under-rollers, over-rollers, vertical-rollers and even on-the-counter rollers. :grouphug: The no-rollers-at-all might get a :crazy: look from me, (and maybe even a :bolt: ) but not hate. :hearts:

I have the world's smallest bathroom, so I don't think there would be space for a toilet roll dispenser even if I could be bothered to buy one :lol: So, on the top of the cistern is where it lives. Sorry everyone.

I don't have a toilet roll dispenser either - mine sits on top of the washing machine. But if I had one, I'd prefer it to hang over. The other way is wrong!

It has to be over the roll. If it is not I must change it immediately. I am tp OCD.

When I actually put it on the hanger, I put it over the top. When I'm at work, sometimes I'll take the roll off the hanger and re-hang it with the paper going under the roll, just to mess with people.

I'm too lazy to read 4 pages of comments about toilet paper, so I'm sorry if anyone's already said this:
Technically, over the roll is the "correct" way to do it, since when it's put on the other way, you can see the rough underside of the pattern, if there is one. So take that!!
But really, that's a very silly thing to worry about for something that's going to be used as it is.

im a shameless over-the-roller... i regularly change my friends rolls if theyre an under-roller (its hillarious when they notice) and gasstations, restaurants, and stores whos TP i can crack open, beware! i will not sully my backside with their underrolled nonsense =P
everyone has to take a stand on something, ive chosen toilet paper rolls.

We go with under the roll. Its harder for the cats to unravel it that way, thus less amusing. Half the time it ends up sitting on the sink or on the bar because we buy those mega rolls so they don't fit right away.

Sucks to be people where I work because our dispensers have keys to open them and I put it in whatever way I feel like, I don't even think about it. And let me tell you, I have the smallest bladder on earth. Its not unusual for me to pee every 2 hours. So with that I think I have the most right to say which way the roll goes over people who only pee twice a day. So take that :P.

I don't have a holder! My vanity sink was replaced and never had a new holder installed.

We used to hang it CORRECTLY, over the roll for easy removal. However now we have 2 kittens . . . and they discovered the toilet paper roll . . . and as such we now have to put it on underhand. Which I hate, But I hate them playing with the roll even more.

WHile this can be a fun/funny topic to discuss, the people who are Nazis about how they like their toilet paper drive me crazy. Whether the toilet paper is hanging above or below is SO not important compared to all the other things I have to worry about in my day. Personally, I don't care where it is or how it hangs as long as I can easily get to it. LOL

I agree. At the end of the day, as long as there's t.p. within range of the loo, all is well. I hate when there's no t.p. left and you have to call for help. :lol:

Under the roll so when pesky animals try to unravel it, it just spins and spins without unraveling!
Unless they figure out how to roll it back towards the wall....well then I am in trouble! :)

Nope....my rolls are 3 high on a cute "goose" vertical holder. Easier for the grandkids to grab and unravel - worse than any cat!

my folks house has a butterchurn next to the toilet, holds 3 rolls inside it with one on top, so theyre vertical too.

Depends on which bathroom. I think my sister's is vertical, but I'm not in there often. The hall bathroom it just sits out on the counter because the roll is awkwardly positioned. And my mom has to have it over, even though I think under is better when the cats are frisky (now that they're grown up, it's not a problem anymore, but when they were little...)

Omgs I feel the exact same way, actually underhand DRIVES ME CRAZY and I CHANGE it every single time...I am sooo OCD about this.
