Title: Starting Barbie Collection: need help!
Post by: Ponyrama_95 on March 15, 2022, 08:54:53 AM
Hello everyone! My mother and I would like to start collecting Barbie dolls, not only the Playline ones but also the collectible ones. Is there a web site or a book where there is an exhaustive list of all the barbies year by year? Maybe even with photos and caption, kind of very similar to my little wiki for ponies.
Thanks to those who will help me  ^.^ ^.^ ^.^

I don't believe there is a website like the MLP wiki for Barbie. What you can find is a number of different websites that tend to break down particular years. Which can be helpful for identification and information. Just like ponies and other toys, you need to remember that with Barbie dolls the year stamped on them is not the year of production it is the year the mold was copyrighted in most cases. As far as books go, I know there were different Barbie books made over the years but I don't know that there was ever a 100% everything book made. It would be MASSIVE. If your looking for a place to get started these are a few websites. They are advertisement heavy though, so that can be annoying.

I love J Michael Augstyniak's books.

https://www.amazon.com/J-Michael-Augustyniak/e/B001JRWSRG?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1648323492&sr=8-2

They don't show every Barbie doll ever made but there are a lot of great pictures in them and I've spent many hours looking at his books.  They were marketed as price guides when they were published so I wouldn't consider the prices in the book accurate any more but it still gives a lot of information on the dolls.  The books are all out of print now.
