Title: Is this a Variant Princess Pony Wand? It cost me 50p!
Post by: xTic_Tac_Toex on November 18, 2020, 07:12:57 AM
Something this Darlin' Dino was holding caught my eye...is this the orange wand of Princess Amethyst? I have no idea how much it's worth, but must be more than 50p!

There are people who make re-casts, if this is an odd colour that's not seen, it might be from them.

I don't think so because it came from someone's childhood toys which had been in the loft for years and years :) On My Little Wiki it appears to be a variant for Princess Sparkle/UK Princess Amethyst  :) If anyone owns an original of this wand I'd be interested to see if mine is the same - it does look the same as the orange one on mylittlewiki.org.

I’ve got the original wand, I’ll post a pic of it soon.

Not related to the wand itself, but may I just drop by to say I love Princess Cowboy a lot? And how the wand's tip looks like a sheriff's star and it fits so so well with the whole attire?

Haha, I agree! It looks like the wand was made for her, she's really rocking it.

I was just digging through LadyG's princess survey and she doesn't have an entry for an orange wand for Amethyst. I'm not saying it's not a variant wand, just that associating it with a particular pony would need a MIB image (UK accessories are not consistent).

And now looking at the Wiki, it suggests that the orangeish wand comes with the particular variant seen there, not Amethyst herself. Which I think is infinitely more likely, since there are certainly some odd accessories floating around from those weird franken releases. That would be my best bet but it would be more conclusive if you'd also found the pony.

There is also a pinkish wand that is known to come with Ruby as a variation, but it doesn't look as lucozadey as yours does.

I remember it was me who made that Wiki entry, verified by a MIB image I had encountered. But it might also be the orange colour is what was once pink, and is just very yellowed by age. I have seen that colour from time to time since years already, so I wouldn't think of a repro here either.

Quite a few wands have passed through my hands over the years, and I have noticed a lot of variations in the colors.  I think some colors do discolor, particularly the pink. I haven’t seen one that orange, but it’s not impossible.  Sunlight can yellow things, and so can cigarette smoke.  It’s also possible it could be a legitimate variant.  Flea markets do turn up the craziest stuff sometimes.

@Tiara - the Wiki entry talks about the variant Princess - was it that one mib?

Hey, thank you so much for this info, it is really helpful!

I'm almost 100% sure that it isn't yellowed - I've seen a lot of yellowing over the years and the plastic of this looks very clear and original. To me it looks the most like 'Princess Amethyst Variant II's' wand on My Little Wiki:

It could belong to a completely different toyline?

It could also be discolored?

That dino is very cute btw. :good:
