Pony Corral / Re: Majesty versions, help!
« on: May 20, 2018, 04:10:07 PM »
I suspect it's a case where the receding hairline Majestys are definitely from the castle, but the ones with with normal hairlines can be either one.  Anyway, here are some more recent pics of my childhood Majesty (same as the one on the wiki) with close-ups of her head to show her hairline and eyes.  While I have other Majestys in my sales bin, she's the only one I can say with 100% certainty came with the castle.

Pony Corral / Re: Hair Quality Decline?
« on: May 20, 2018, 10:12:22 AM »
My new style Twilight FS has dry hair - I haven't tried to do anything to it yet, but I'm afraid it will go frizzy when I do.  I don't recall any of the earlier FS styles having problems though I did check my Photo Finish and her hair does feel slightly greasy.  I also noticed that they've been reducing the amount of hair on them. The early ones have four rows of plugs, the more recent ones (Royal Ribbon, Photo Finish, etc.) have three, and the new style have only two.  There may be a few that break that pattern, but it does seem to be the general trend.

That Majesty on the wiki page is mine and definitely came with my pink Dream Castle. So, no I would not say hairline is a deciding factor.  (I went ahead and removed the notation on the wiki that called her a mail order.)

This whole generation seems to have poorer quality hair period.  I notice the tails seem to suffer the worst. I've gotten thin, dry, greasy, frizzy and unmanageable hair. I own  a handful of ponies who have legitimately nice hair and 2 of them are merponies.

This.  There have been complaints about the quality of G4 hair going back to nearly the beginning of the line (I've found threads dating from early 2012 mentioning it).  It does seem to be happening more and more frequently lately, but the ones I've had that stand out have been the Rarity that came with the "Book"tique which had incredibly frizzy hair straight out of the box and a couple of the Rainbow Power Fluttershys that came with a Breezie which had waxy feeling tails that no amount of washing and conditioning would fix.

I no longer have her, but I saved this pic of MOC Cloud Dreamer

I have tons of US backcard scans - many I've donated to the wiki and you're welcome to use those or I can put the ones you're missing on Google Drive and send you the link.

Cloud Dreamer's green stripe matches Seashell.

The Brush N Grows have the hairstyles I gave them as a kid making it hard to get a good comparison without undoing them which I really don't want to do.  I'm pretty sure Star Gleamer's yellow is Yellow Fever though and one of Skylark's colors matches Munchy while the purple matches Blossom, but I'm not sure on the third color as I can't separate enough of it to compare - it's very pale and picks up on the other colors the way I have her styled but I believe it is white.

Thank you so much for you help everyone! I can't thank you enough for taking time for this.  I've updated the list with the ponies im still missing. Almost there!

That site was really helpful, thanks NightGliderSA! But I dont agree with some of their colours. For example they have Electric Banana for Baby Honeycomb. I dont think so, or am I just blind? Honeycomb's hair sure is Electric Banana, but the baby's hair looks just yellow in most of the pictures.  :wonder: Anyone have Baby Honeycomb?
You're right.  I don't have very many shades of Dollyhair on hand, but I can tell you that my Baby Honeycomb's hair matches my Baby Applejack's exactly.

I've tried to match up the other ones that I have from your list.  Here's what I came up with keeping in mind that there may be some fading or discoloration issues here and there.

Baby Splosh - her yellow is a pretty close match to Yellow Fever (one of the colors I do have on hand)

Baby Ruby - matches Cherry Treats

Surprise Newborn Cuddles - matches Candy Kisses

Purple Valentine Twin - matches Cotton Candy

Nurse Loveheart - matches Majesty

Great Hair Ringlets - dark pink matches Candy Kisses, light pink matches Nice N Spicy, not sure on the white - it doesn't seem to match either Virgin Snow or Minty's white but it's possible mine is slightly discolored

Great Hair Highlights - orange matches Tales Bright Eyes, bright yellow appears to be Yellow Fever, I don't have anyone that matches her pale yellow

Hip Hop - orange matches Tales Bright Eyes, pink matches Candy Kisses

Pony Corral / Re: Cleaning ponies with batteries/mechanics

To remove Dash's battery, you have to pry up the rubbery strip directly under her tail to find the screw underneath.

The last time I had to wash the hair on one with a battery, I wrapped plastic around the base of the hair to help keep the water from dripping down into her and tried to keep the water only on the hair using as little as possible.

It sounds like yours has gotten stuck somehow.  When mine is twisted into the position yours appears to be in, she pretty much falls apart and I can access the battery.

I found this copy of the instructions for her: http://www.transformertoys.co.uk/images/instruction-scans/hasbro/my%20little%20pony%20shimmer%20shine%20as%20the%20flower%20petal%20princess%20instructions.pdf

The two on the left with bridles and saddles are Buddy L.  The one in the middle of the second row with the snowglobe-like wings is Dallas from the ERTL's My Little Angel line, and the one below that and above the Totsy is a Magic Touch horse.

Are any of them ones people might be looking for?

Yes, I give most of the fakies I end up with away as freebies, but those are ones I generally pull out to sell.  The ERTL in particular will probably get some interest.  The others aren't worth a whole lot but do get interest especially if you can get them working.

I also think that one looks like an Enchanted Kingdom horse - looks like the right size to me.

Regarding the problem of the picture not showing - you need to move it somewhere other than Photobucket as they no longer allow hotlinking.  The only reason I can see it is because I am using Chrome with an extension installed that works around the issue.

If you want a general idea without a specific country in mind, this is a link to the international rate chart showing all the possible first class rates (make sure you're reading the section for the package rates). https://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm#_c341

Using stamps should work, but you would still need a customs form.  (Not sure if you'd get any tracking that way though.)

Off Topic / Re: Toys R Us closures incoming

From what I saw when I went, Easter items and novelty toys (the stuff in bins near the front of the store similar to dollar store toys) were 20% and the cards and gift bags were 30%.

I didn't want to risk the light-up Tempest being gone by the time the discounts got better so I picked her up.  The funny thing was that I had been the day before (when the sales were originally supposed to begin) and found a complete box of Wave 24 blind bags that rang up buy one get one 40% off (making them 20% off each) - better than the clearance sale!  I'll check back once the discounts go up and might pick up a few more things if they still have them.

Pony Corral / Re: Questions about sunfading, but not the usual ones!

Ooh, Love Melody actually looks pretty nice with that blueish color. (...but now I'm a little worried about the G1s I just started fading with the white paint method)

I think the main thing is to make sure you get a really thick coat on them.  I used paint on her eyes too and they didn't fade, but I was able to get the paint on in a much thicker layer than on those tiny little hearts.  (It doesn't show in that shot but the centers of some of the hearts where the paint was the thickest still have some pink too.)  It didn't help that that particular shade of pink fades so easily.

Sunfading works just as well with colored ponies as it does with white ones.  It will eventually fade the color particularly if they are pink or purple, but I've found G1s to be handle being sunfaded for longer periods than G3s or G4s of similar colors.  If they are yellowed, sunfading can make them appear brighter.

Some examples:

Paintingtime sunfaded for a few weeks to a month:

The Love Melody from the before pic is next to my near mint one in the after pic to show how her color did fade, but you can also see how discolored she was to start with.  I'm not sure how long she was faded, but it was at least several months.  (Her hearts are why I don't recommend relying on paint to cover symbols - I painted over them with white paint but only the very centers remained unfaded when I removed it.)

Peppermint Crunch took quite awhile too.  The one that was faded is on the right in the comparison photo showing that her yellowing was improved while not fading her excessively.
