I'm back at work (for a few days now, I forgot about this thread) so I can take pictures! I don't think my boss would be thrilled if I start bringing toys to work, so no pony, but hopefully a quick pony doodle counts.

I'm tempted to try to make some hot chocolate now! I had "paleo hot chocolate" Which is cacao mix with even parts organic coconut sugar.
I always prefer full fat milk, but imagine that vanilla flavored almond milk would be good. OOH!! you you know what would taste delicious, I'm sure?
Coconut milk from the can. but, use the stuff on top - the creamy stuff.
mm...steamed milk, melted chocolate...ponies...yum!

I made another round of cocoa tonight with Land o' Lakes Hazelnut powder mix (YUM!) and nutella and vanilla almond milk. I think I really prefer the vanilla almond milk- no lactose, it doesn't scorch, it doesn't taste watery, and it has a much longer fridge life than milk.

I had some of the cutest hot chocolate the other day. I have very weird taste buds so I don't do homemade mixes because they often taste very awful to me (I eat a very limited selection of food). I just buy mixes online or from cute stores and such. At the World Market I found Hello Kitty hot chocolate! It turns pink when you pour liquid in, pretty pastel pink! It was very sweet but I was using nasty organic whole milk that I feel spoiled it a bit. My mother is the only one in our home that drinks milk and she started buying organic awhile back and.. ew. Just, ew. I can't use the stuff for anything. I'll have to get more and a different milk next time!

So a couple nights ago I tried making cocoa the way you guys talked about- on the stove, and mixing the cocoa into the milk while it's heating. Then I did something pretty amazing- I stirred in a spoonful of NUTELLA! You gotta try it! It was soooooo creamy, but you really can't use too much. It's really rich.

They sell Nutella hot chocolate at McDonalds in Germany.  It is pretty good.

I was at a big winter cosplay meet up last weekend, and we were outside so it was pretty cold, but then one of my friends showed up with GIANT thermoses of home made hot chocolate for everyone to have!  It was such a treat!

I'd love to try it out with almond milk. I've had chocolate oatmilk but never warmed up, but I think almond would be even more delicious :)

Kinda taking a break from cocoa this week... it hasn't been snowing, so I'm kinda in the "it's going to be a brown Christmas" frumps.  Here are pics from my last mug a few days ago- on the sketching table with my subject, Baby Drummer.

This thread is the best!

My mother used to whip some cream real thick, fill a big mug with it and add sugar and cacao, stir it up. The cream will become less fluffy and more like a light goo.
Then she'd pour hot milk over it, stir again. Add more cream on the top and either sprinkle chocolate flakes on top or drizzle chocolate sauce over it.

Nowadays I drink oat/almond/rice milks instead and I actually prefer it to regular milk ( especially the oat one, it gives extra coziness somehow! )

Unfortunately I have not found a good substitute for whipped cream though.
Coconut cream gives the right consistency and while I love coconut it's a very different flavor.
