At least they actually look kinda cute, compared to the original Trolls! (their wrinkly faces always scared me...) These ones kinda remind me of Brian Froud goblins. <3

I had loads of the old Trolls growing up. loved them to bits. :) these are adorable though in a way the old ones never were.especially like the big one in the pic, with pink and black hair. ^_^ those ears! aaawwww!

These aren't actually trolls just kinda based on the idea but with much cuter faces. However I think Darkhorse (the company that does those Domo figures) recently reintroduced the original style trolls as blind box toys.

They're adorable! A cross between Smurfs and MLP lol.
I just picked up the medium sized Garny the Dark Fairy Zelf and Spellinda the Witch Zelf and I plan to get a few more. I'm imagining them as villains for my ponies.

I love them. I don't love them nearly as much as Treasure Trolls, but I do love them. They have such bright, vibrant colors. So cool! If they were actual Treasure Trolls, with the traditional Troll shape, they would probably be the perfect toy for me :P

I have to agree that they look like Brian Froud goblins, only extremely cute ones. I guess if I saw one inf colors that tickled my fancy I might grab one or two....

I'm worried about how awesome I find these! I have pre-ordered ALL of the medium sized Zelfs on TRU (still waiting), but yesterday I broke down and drove to TRU. I ended up with the large Spellinda (she glows!) and several of the "blind pots". They tap into the nostalgia of trolls, but have awesome color selection and zelf marks (like ponies), and super sweet Froud fairy/goblinesque faces. This is going to be a problem. :blush:

I like them- they are much cuter than trolls! Hmm, but there is one that can 'sit' on a pencil. As a kid, I didn't like the pencil-top trolls because they had that big hole in their booty. It felt so undignified :huh: Still, these Zelfs are neat!

I feel ya... I just went out and bought the medium Vampula, Flamy, Howlette and Lil'D to add to my Spellinda and Garny. Plus I picked up a pencil topper one as well. That's 7 in 3 days!!! :yikes:

Bought my daughter, Gennybean, a Pega Sue in the medium size and a flowerpot one. Then I came home and preordered a bunch. And ordered them from the TV offer of 6 for $20, twice.

I need some of these lol, I just love the bright colours, and they are adorable in that troll like ugly but interesting type of way. I hope they are available in Australia somewhere, I would love to see them in person to see what my thoughts are of them instead of caving and buying them online.

These appear to be pretty popular at the moment, I stocked the whole Zelf section the other day and the next day about half of them were gone.
I remember seeing the cases for the first time and thought, "Oh jeez, that name is so dumb. What's the tagline, love your zelf?(of course I found out later it was)", then later all I could think was "Man, if those were $2 cheaper I'd probably buy the first set.".
As much as I wish them success, I just hope they aren't this year's Zhu Zhu Pets. I'm no Nostradamus, but I think they might be.

Just to make sure, no one has any idea how they are to distribute Miss Clover, do they? Seems to me that there are 12 medium sized ones out and on shelves but Miss Clover has not been spotted either in stores or even eBay.

I think the Zelf is called Buttershy... but I can't remember. And I haven't seen the Clover one yet either! But I have only found them at Toys R Us so far. They only had one of each style, and a couple of them were already gone. So maybe someone else nabbed her.
Anyway, I love these! I have one of the mini blind bag type ones, and I'm hoping my husband comes home with at least one of the medium ones today if he remembers to stop at Toys R Us after work. Maybe I'll take pics later. I said I liked a couple of different ones so I'm not sure which one he'll get... I'm really hoping for the yellow one though!

There are 36 blind bag Zelfs- 12 styles in 3 finishes, matte, pearl and Glitter. So far I've only gotten the matte ones.
I got a big Buttershy for my Gennybean (7) and she has decided she only likes the medium and small ones. So I may have some large ones for trade/ sale soon!

For some reason, I had a ton of troll dolls as a kid...and yet they always scared me. I remember carrying this one with pink hair around with me everywhere even though I was scared of it. I think I had some sort of vague notion that it would curse me if I wasn't kind to it...
Zelfs are nothing like that though! They're actually cute and I get a nice fuzzy vibe from them. These things would never curse you. You can just tell.

So there are 6 Super Zelfs, Angelala and Lil D are pearly, Buttershy and I think Mermalade are glittery, and I've just found that Spellinda is glow in the dark so I suspect Vampula is as well. I love glow in the dark!

There was a highly popular line that did have them - it was most of what I saw being collected as a kid. Kids loved them to pieces, and in my class those were the ones that invoked the most envy LOL

I have hit 3 TRU's in the last week and have seen EVERY figure at every store.......BUT 1.......can you guess.......its green......GGGGGGGRRRRRRR how rare is this figure Clover really.....anyone know is it 1 a case 1 every three cases????

its annoying i contacted our supplier directly and they won't tell me just to look at their site on monday, so i am guessing its a competition or mail order, can't wait to find out.
10,000 world wide is better then 1000 or even 100 :D so more serious collectors will get hold of them.

check everyone's photos out, they are a new toy brand out now. i lot of people think its a new troll line but they are not made my the troll company, they just have the colourful whispy hair thing like trolls and cute funny bodies.

I've definitely gone a bit Zelf crazy. I'm filling the gap until Hasbro make new MLP characters as brushables by buying these cute little guys. I've seen the Venus Flytrap playset, but it doesn't do much for me, so I'm letting my Zelfs hang out in some pony playsets for now....

I found all sizes in toys r us in oz! (Kotara, NSW for those wondering where) the medium ones are gorgeous! I picked up flamy and lil d, as well as a few of the blind ones. They are all so darn cute! Not a fan of the larger sized ones, but the medium are just adorable!

I think the price will go down, eventually, once more are out there in the economy. I'm still hoping I'll find one in store. She may be there rare one, and maybe it's because I'm still relatively new to toyline collecting, but 10,000 worldwide doesn't seem like she'll be too unobtainable, hopefully. :unsure:

I was curious so I checked two of my Gold Label Barbies I still actually have the boxes for - one was no more than 9400 pieces worldwide the other 8400 and they sell for maybe double or a bit more than retail? I am lucky that there is a shop here that gets in collector Barbies so I didn't have to go to eBay. So I guess 10000 is more than either of those so it might mean her price will go down? :unsure:

Omigosh, I love these. The first time I saw them, I immediately thought of the old troll dolls. Yet when you see them side-by-side next to a troll, they are so obviously different. I also thought of Brian Froud's goblin and fairy art when I saw the Zelfs' faces. I was wondering if I was the only one who thought of Brian Froud goblins, but after reading this thread, apparently several other people also made the same connection. Very cool.
They're so cute! Turns out my daughter and I both like them. We've already bought several, and we'll be getting more for Christmas. (Plus, my daughter's birthday is coming up a little before Christmas, so she'll get a couple for her birthday as well.)

I'm completely smitten with them! I told myself that I wasn't going to start up another collection any time soon, but I just couldn't resist. I have the medium-sized Buttershy and Elfa and they automatically make me smile whenever I see them. I may have to grab a few more in the future. Like many people, I'm dying to find Miss Clover.
I've only come across them at my local TRU so far, and the medium-sized ones get absolutely wiped out from week to week, they've been very popular. I'm hoping that these start to pop up in more stores soon. :)
They do remind me of Brian Froud's goblins. Because of the shape of their heads, I instantly thought of "The Dark Crystal" and it's Gelfling characters (which of course, was also conceptualized by Froud) when stumbling across them for the first time.

I really hadn't seen these anywhere, and all of a sudden they started popping up. I'm IN LOVE with the ones that have little sea monster ears! I've seen a blue and a green one, and I almost caved and bought the green one yesterday (but I had a La-La-Loopsy in my hand that I NEEDED :lol:) Dunno about the rest, but I think that I'm going to end up getting the cute water ones... I'm such a dork for anything aquatic themed.

Here is another comparison. The Zelf is one of the medium-sized ones. I never collected Troll dolls, but I love the Zelfs. I think they're so cute!

I asked an employee standing next to the toy section doing something with boxes and neon colored spiky rubber balls on top of them on a trolley and he'd never heard of Zelfs (he was able to help me locate a Magic Jinn who I also had a hard time finding). I checked the girl toys in the other aisles and nothing.

they are still brand new guys, i reckon give it time and they will be everywhere :) if still nothings in months to come, someone will help you out, hopefully someone from a country with cheap post like Germany etc..

I've been so busy the past month I couldn't get away from my town to hit the closest big name store to me (an hour away) to check for Zelfs so I figured everyone else in the USA had long since seen Zelfs in person. XD

aawww i just love your photos :D how cute is that.
they are really expensive here like about $15usd and one shop had 30% of as an introductory offer so i went nuts and lay-by'ed (lay-away) the rest that i wanted. yay yay yay so will pickup in a couple of weeks :D but man they are clearing out fast, they only had a dozen left of the medium ones and a few left of the large ones and there was no playsets or the blind packs left :shocked:

I am struggling with my own desire... I really have NO room in my tiny tiny home to start collecting other toys. I'm not really a toy collector, I own 250+ ponies but MLP are the only toys I collect, and those I do for nostalgic reasons, they remind me of my childhood. And right now they're all sitting in a big box anyway, because I don't have room to display them.
But...but... the Zelf things are CUTE!! ;_; I have never seen a non-pony toy I wanted to own, but I really want these! I do see the resemblance to the 80's trolls, but the faces in particular are much cuter, with their big round eyes and droopy ears. I love that they all have unique parts, their ears are in different locations and they have different wings, tails, etc. Plus the colors!! Also, as other people in this thread have said, when I saw the trademark "love your Zelf" my heart melted a bit.
I don't watch tv so I never saw a commercial for these, but I was walking down the toy aisle to buy some gag gifts for my two friends, we were celebrating both of their birthdays on the same day, so I was putting together a big gift bag for each of them, both bags had all the same items but one had pink things and one had blue things. So as my roving eyes passed over the many items in the girly pink aisle, I fell on these cute little things, and of course right in the front was a blue one and a pink one. So I grabbed them as gifts... and now I've fallen in love with them! ;_;

I was wondering that as well. From all I've heard clover finds have just been TRU. But then I think they were only in select WalMarts so far, so it is possible that they have Clover and we just hear about it less. Of the five WalMarts within traveling distance of me, only one had Zelfs at all (annoying). I was tired of trying to find her and turned to EvilBay and gave in to the scalpers.

I felt the SAME way for the same reasons. The only toy I have had an active collection of as an adult is MLP (for nostalgia and such), but there is just something about these things. I had to make room. I hung one of those bracketless shelves above my pony cabinet. I'm just hoping this isn't a slippery slope, because Novi Stars are starting to crawl in. arg. Must.. Draw.. The Line....Here! Here... and no fartha....(sorry, I have a feeling my amalgamation of Star Trek impressions will be lost in type, but I'm hitting the post button anyhow.)

yes everything you say. i never collected anything out side or mlp and the nostalgic era (80s)
i never wanted to collect G4 as i don't have any room for my beloved G1 as it is and that never happened and i have a tiny house but look at those zelfs eyes, i think trying to remember i really would have liked a troll back 20, 30 years back but these really are cute and do resemble care bears and my little ponies in the bright fun colours and belly and rump symbols.
and warning, like mlp's you just can't stop at one :D

Welp, I caved. XD Only took me a couple days of thinking and my resolve crumbled away. lol. Flamey came home with me, her two-tone hair is seriously adorable and I love the little scale motif on her body!
I have one TRU and one Walmart between my house and work, so I just had to stop today on the way home. TRU had six of them on the shelf (no Clover, not surprisingly) and Walmart had absolutely none. o.0 I was surprised about that.
Living in Maine, I'm not feeling that it's likely many Clovers will make it to stores near me. We don't have the population some bigger states do, and a lower population means the toy stores don't order as many boxes. I'm going to keep an eye out, and maybe I'll get lucky. *crosses fingers!*
Honestly, I wish the 'ultra rare' Zelf had turned out to be ugly. XD I don't collect for rarity, but Clover is cute and I like her colors, so I'd love to take her home. But I'm hardly in the minority there, I know, lol.

Sigh, I'm so discouraged. -_- I went to all FOUR Wal-mart stores within driving distance of my house... And not even one of them had any Zelfs at all. I wasted so much time and gas! Sigh. I really like these little buggers and I really like Clover, and I don't have anything to show for all my work searching.
At the last Wal-mart I finally gave in and went to Customer Service (which is always a fun waiting game) to ask if they even heard of them. The lady who came over to help me was super helpful and nice, but said the Zelfs had all been moved to the clearance toy section! :( According to this worker, apparently Wal-mart is getting ready for the holiday season so any toys they don't plan to stock for Christmas got moved to clearance early.
She went to look with me through the clearance toys, but we didn't find any so they must have sold out. :( I hope they come back after Christmas is over... Sigh. I have such rotten luck.

heck they are like 10pounds/$15usd here for a medium size one :( shame shipping is so expensive, iv been trying to grab them on sales here, they have had lots of toy sales for the school holidays.

Hey guys, I've been following the Zelf thread over in the Dollhouse when someone mentioned that there was a thread over here in OT too, so I'll add this here as well: I saw a bunch of Clovers today at my local TRU Express! :dropjaw: I have no idea why or how, totally bizarre. I would LOVE to trade for ponies/dolls on my wishlists? (links are in my sig) If anyone is interested in a trade please let me know :) I don't know how quickly they'll disappear from the store, but I could stop in again anytime this week to get her.
edit to add: I believe I've now replied to all PMs :D And I should add, if a trade doesn't work I am willing to pick up a Clover at cost if I can get payment up front. :) Zelfs are approx $8 after tax here, and shipping to most places should be $8-12. I'd refund immediately if I couldn't get her. I totally understand if people aren't comfortable with paying up front; just putting it out there as well in case I can help someone out that way! ^.^

If anyone else comes across a Clover and doesn't want her I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for her. My daughter has decided that she really wants her. I've told her how much she is on Ebay and that it's really too expensive for a toy but she still mentions it at least once a day.

Anyone see any difference in the newer zelfs as compared to the rest?
The Pega Sue that I bought from ebay includes a high forehead and her eyes seem to be set higher while the Flamy I just bought locally has a lower forehead and much lower set eyes. Flamy also can't seem to sit upright on his own. Is it just the mould or is it my country or is it a drop in quality? :/

Hmm those are good observations Fluffle. I haven't looked that closely, but I'll take a look next time I go to TRU to look.
I did notice they started packaging the Medium sized ones differently. Some of the ones I buy have a clear plastic elastic around the neck holding it in the package. Other ones have four clear plastic elastics, one around each arm and leg, rather than just one around the neck. But I didn't notice about the change in the mold. It's entirely possible they adjusted the molds and changed the quality when they got super popular and had to increase production to keep up with demand.
To be fair, these were incredibly well made for a $6 toy. The paint jobs are usually high quality and are in really interesting positions, like the little details on the back of the arms or legs.
You might have just gotten a couple of bad mold pours, though. With so many in production, it's understandable that they don't all come out of the mold perfect. My Garny has a weird bulge in her leg near the joint that makes it hard to turn the leg.

i thought they were incredibly expensive here but when i look at the quality, accessories and how they are presented i think they are worth it. though i only buy them when they are on sale. :lookround:

What a great picture, shabbychicdee! I'm sorry they're so expensive in your location. :( Especially since this company originates out of Australia, you'd think they'd be more expensive over here! Quite possible the American toy companies didn't want to take a chance with a new toyline and said, "We'll sell them for you, but only if we can put them at such-and-such a price." (Walmart does that with companies aaaallll the time, that's why their prices are so low.)
I think there's only been one 'wave' so far (unless you want to count the Greenhouse Teahouse and the Art Zelf as wave 2, since they came later). But the poster you saw might have been the 'large' characters. There's only 6 characters in the large size (Lil'D, Spellinda, Mermalade, Buttershy, Vampula, and Angelala), while the medium size has those 6 plus 8 others. I think they company is concentrating on those 6 to be the core of their line, since those 6 are the ones who show up on all the advertisements and merchandise so far.

ohhhhhhh of course doh it might have been the larger ones but i can't remember seeing anything about being the larger ones.
also i think they are expensive in Australia too like mlp are but they have high wages over there so can afford it :P
ahh i just spotted a tru exclusives set for the little ones in a large pack, already with the untouchable tru and target exclusive, that's the reason i am of g4 right now :huh:

I really love these, in fact id probably have all of them if i could find them, unfortunately i haven't been very lucky.
That aside, I cant compare these to trolls. lol i guess im just being nit picky, and not really in a bad way, because i honestly do adore these things so much. But to me trolls were very signature xD I collected trolls, i had more trolls when i was little then i did my little ponies. I still have a few of my trolls from childhood. :P
I really do hope i can find some of these though, they're so pretty and fun looking!

I just read an online article about Miss Clover from someone in the UK who mailed in to get Clover as the mail-away event over there. The article does say 1,000 Clovers were set aside for this mail away, and the person writing the article got 569 of 10,000. So it seems like maybe the first 1,000 went to the UK, and the next batch came over here. :)

Ok Maryland my area is just SO LAME for these - nothing is stocked at any of the three local Wal-Marts and gonna hit up the TRU today = think it's still BOGO ?? hoping so
and this is a shout out for anyone with a clover already opened - I am not a MIB person - I would love to buy/trade (have plenty of harder to find US and nirvana)

I checked four Walmarts when I first heard about Zelfs and not one of the four had any on the shelf. :( One worker said they had been moved to clearance with the other toys that Walmart didn't intend to stock for the Christmas season. :\ Soooo yeah, in my experience, TRU is the only place you're going to find them for now.

Yeah, the only place I've seen these so far is TRU. I've checked a couple of Walmarts in my area and none have them.

I'm in the same boat, Wardah! But I'm patient, I know she will be on clearance soon. Or she'll pop up loose on ebay eventually, once all the kids getting her for Christmas this year aren't interested anymore and parents want to clean out space in their kids' toy chests and make some money too. ;)

You guys won't believe this. Only 50 people will receive a special 'Clover card' in Singapore, and from that 50, only 5 who had spent $100 on zelfs will be able to get Clover. WHATT.
Good thing I've already received mine from Zombellina! :P

Jumps up and down, I finally found some! oh my gosh >.< i love these things
I went to TRU today thinking i probably wouldnt see them because iv litterally looked EVERYWHERE else in my area and no one has them. but there they were! and better yet they had a buy one get one free on these littler ones, which are the ones i love.
So they only had 5 different ones, and i LOVED these 4, especially the vampire and dragon one xD ugh im so happy!

I was just wondering, what are the extra rubber bands for? just their hair or am i missing out on something xD. I wouldnt want to actually put them in their hair, it seems like it would pull it out.

You guessed it! It's for their hair! If you dont tie it too tightly, it shouldnt pull out hair, but it will make a 'dent' in the hair after removing. (Like ponytail wave on us humans) the 'dent' will smooth out in time :)

Ok, does anyone remember which brush colors came with which Zelf? I need it for Angelala, Flamy, & Lil D. I'cw got 2 yellow and 1 pink.
Or maybe they're random, but both my Howlettes came with purple combs.

angelala came with yellow, (i know this because i only have one yellow brush and it would just look odd with the others xD)
and i beleive flamy had a pink one

xD its easier for me to tell i think because iv ONLY got angelala, flamy, vampula, and howlette xD and those are mostly pretty easy to tell based on body/hair colors, except angelala, and in that case yellow/gold just seems to go with her theme :p

I've only got Angelala, Flamy, Elfa, Lil D, 2x Howlette, Miss Clover. I mixed their combs until I got Miss Clover and the 2nd Howlette - then I went about sorting them. Some weren't hard because the combs were with their leaflets, which have the pic of the Zelf they belong to on them. But those last three were just tossed all together.
And because I had Howlette 2's stuff separate, it was easy to figure the first Howlette's!

hey guys just a head up on the coloured elastics they come with, i have had colour transfer from these and it doesn't come out :sad: if you are going to use them never leave them in hair or on the plastic/vinyl, i used them to hold the charms but have now used the clear elastics that hold the zelf in the packaging
btw thanks for the info above, thats great news :) can't wait to see them

Maybe they'll all be jewel themed, like Emerald, Diamond and Pearl? That'd be cool! I thought maybe birthstone, but then that would mean one birthstone was HTF, and that doesn't make sense sales-wise. What month is ruby, anyway?

Thanks for the discussion about combs, guys! I was wondering if they were randomly thrown into the packages or if every Zelf got a certain color, and now my wondering is put to rest since my comb colors match your guy's comb colors. ^_^
@shabbychicdee: Oh no, sorry to hear that! :( Yeah that's what people were reporting about the G4 MLP's because they were using the same pinkish hair elastics and it was marking up the ponies' hair. So I didn't bother to put them on my Zelfs, I just put them all in a plastic baggy and put them aside.
I'm SO EXCITED about the news for the new waves!! :D THE CHASE IS ON!!
