^ maybe!

i think Hasbro of the 1980s is quite a different thing than Hasbro of 2020/2021.

the toy battlefield is quite different now - so many more options and apps and smart phones to compete with.  I don’t see Hasbro taking any risks with long-haired boys.

It feels really sad to imagine "boy with long hair" to be a risk in toy marketing. <<Be yourself ! It's okay to express yourself and be who you are ! But not too much, eh...>>.

I have her. She still has her pink hair, which is nice.

Am I thinking too hard, or is this lowkey sexist ?  In the 80s, there used to be the Big Brothers and they had brushable hair. Everyone loves them. G2 had boy ponies as well, they just looked the same as the females because they made no sexual dimorphism in G2. Now in G5, there's this clear distinction and that makes me sad. Have we regressed ?
I'm probably making no sense... I'm tired... Sorry. :(

Childhood  pony ! I love her so much ! I didn't understand her name on the packaging, since my native language is French, so I called her " étoile " (= star) based off the star-shaped eye shine. ♥

She's a childhood pony and I love her. I got her with a bonus pony in the box. (Lullabelle)
I wish she had her blue streak in her mane as well, so we could see it and that we could remove her dress.
But oh well, it's okay I suppose. I took good care of her so she's in great condition.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Italian Trickles Variant?
« on: July 17, 2021, 11:35:29 PM »
Spoiler

If you open her you'll see how the tail and mane were secured. Here you can see how an original Italy tail looks like: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,398994.msg1819791.html#msg1819791. I don't know what technique the factory in Italy used to secure the mane as I've never opened an Italy pony so far and the ponies I had re-haired came back to me re-glued, but I'm sure there are several people on here who can elaborate on this.

So many years of collecting and I didn't know about this fact

So...Somebody suggested to "squish" her butt and tell what I feel, so I did (Sorry, Trickles  ) There's something hard where her tail goes into the body. It's about 1 cm long and if I press real hard (I had to use a clamp tool for some of the photos or it wouldn't show) the shape / outline is visible. I held her against a lamp to make it visible for everyone. I also took many more photos from different angles, also very clear closeups from all sides. She really looks genuine to me. No harm on the neck seam at all.

Here's one of the pics (more here on the bottom: https://www.flickr.com/gp/105219357@N03/ypZReW

This type of tail clamp is typically Italian.

My first and only winger. I'm happy to have her. She vaguely shares my ponysona's color scheme and my fascination for dragonflies. Even though I had never seen her before coming up with my OC, which is neat.

I never gave any conclusion to my previous comment. I was just saying "It doesn't sound offensive to me. Does it sound offensive to the targeted people ?" I never said it's okay to use Gypsy just because I don't think it's a slur. Like I said, only the targeted people have the final word on this debate.

Aside from this specific topic on the name "Gypsy", I'm not too huge on taboo-fying every word for x or y reason. It feels forbidden to openly and respectfully talk about some subjects because of that and that doesn't actually prevent people from using those in a disrespecful way. Because the issue isn't usually the word itself, but how and in which context it is used. I feel like that would decrease the awareness on our history in the long run and we'd repeat the same mistakes instead of learning from the past.

I'm from Belgium so English isn't my first language, but I don't perceive this term as a slur or anything insulting. I would be interested to have the opinion of people from that community to have a clearer understanding of what it means to them.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Collecting Questions
« on: July 02, 2021, 03:36:55 AM »
My go-to are thrift stores and flea markets. I love to ramble through toy boxes and various booths in the hope of finding ponies to buy, restore, display customise etc. Although the vast majority won't be in pristine condition, most of them just need a bit of elbow grease and they would look lovely in your shelves. On the plus side, they are cheap and it's always a surprise. Do not expect to find ponies when you visit those places. That way, you enjoy the little walk, you see some random stuff, interact with people, socialise and the enjoyment of finding ponies will be even bigger. ♥

Most of my ponies are from there + childhood collection and the very rare store purchase. I even  found a Nirvana pony that wasn't sold in my country, in a flea market ! And also a MOC ponywear (although very damaged... But it' my first MOC !!♥), a Baby Sapphire in great condition for 0.50€ etc etc... Such great moments appear very rarely, but you will cherish them for the rest of your life.

Their face is such a mess. A stain on their decent bodies. Also, it's such a shame their wings are not open. At first glance, I thought they were all earth ponies. :(
Molded hair on Hitch....... :pout:

Pony Corral / Re: Can marker and pen be easily removed
« on: July 01, 2021, 09:06:47 AM »
Hydrogen Peroxide : all gud, go ahead. :3

Benzol peroxide (acne cream/remove zit) : Oh hell naw. No. No. No. No, never. Not even once. Don't do this. Nope nope nope. For the love of everything sacred and beautiful, never use it I'm begging ya'll. D:

It irreversibly bleaches their vinyl over the years and applies that effect to ponies that came into direct or indirect contact with an affected pony. It doesn't even bleach off marker 100% of the time. If I had the pictures in hand, I would have showed you. I remember one scribbled Bowtie whose marker marks stayed and there is the acne cream bleaching the vinyl over it.

Also, for that matter, it used to be popular in the last couple of decades, so if you're buying restored ponies off of other collectors, do ask them if they've used this cream and be very wary as the bleaching could show up only a few years later. This is why it was very late when we all realised this method is one of the least recommenced ever as of today.

Stay safe. <3
