May I Please See Brown/Natural-Hair Customs?

I have a project in the mix and I'm a bit stumped at how to go about it, this being a first ever custom and all...

So I was wondering if anypony might have pictures of natural color mane customs? Particularly brown/black shades? I'm trying to make ponysonas of members of a band in G4 style. I love colors, but for these I absolutely want the hair/mane to be recognizable since I'm planning on handing these to them. Any tips would be very much appreciated as well as reference pictures. Plus who doesn't love a good pic thread?

I don't use brown a lot, but I like how this one turned out. I used some orange and yellow tones for shades/highlights

Roogna, she's very pretty! The copper/yellow is sort of like a highlight. She turned out very cute!

Boots just has straight black katsilk hair. I made her for a host for a podcast I listen to called Fear The Boot. The lead host had long luscious locks of black hair before cutting his hair, so I gave her long hair also.

I made this one, now with CrystalSnowflake. Simple design but I loved the purple/brown combo Plug by plug gradient, solid colored tail.

I tend to look at Dollyhair and choose a couple of shades that are as close as possible to the person's hair.  Then, if there are any highlights or undertones, pick a colour that's a few shades lighter.  You can pre-blend the plugs, or if you're using a rehairing tool, add the bulk of the colour you want, then add high- or low-lights to taste.  That helps prevent them getting lost in the middle of the plug, too.

the_ether: thank you for the advice. I actually don't have a rehair tool, but I've been practicing with the string and needle method. One of these days I'll upgrade. ^ ^; How one earth did you get such detail into their cutie marks? (lol Hogs n Kisses is a cute name, btw )
