Post by: Christahope on May 27, 2012, 11:42:35 PM
I didn't see this posted yet but I just saw this on Taobao.com and thought everyone would like to see. Looks like it's for Comic Con. Hope it's real. Hope they make a lot.

I hope I can get my hands on one of them!  If I didn't have a con for every month for the next year I'd go just so I could buy her.  Oh sweet Celestia in Canterlot, do I want that pony!

At least this means that a few more will be distributed among the pony community. Albeit for a very high price tag...

I really don't know anything about Comic Con exclusives and have been wondering for quite awhile now...Are these exclusives being sold at all the Comic Cons, or just the San Diego one? I know my boyfriend's going to the CC in Philadelphia this year, and I'm wondering if it's possible that it'll be available there...I apologize again for the probably stupid question! I've been holding onto this small thread of hope for awhile now for Monster High as well :P

*sigh* Well if that's the one and only exclusive for comic con, Hasbro will have a lot of very loyal collectors from previous generations who are not going to be happy about it. This makes me a very sad panda. I have zero interest in owning this and am going to be really bummed to not get a new G3 exclusive :\

Even without ":muffin: Pony Hooves" on the box, I still don't think it was a good idea. No matter what they call her, without a redemption episode where :muffin: Pony is treated kindly and isn't made out to be a total moron/mentally retarded/what have you, she's still :muffin: Pony with the insanely controversial and poorly done intro. And that's all she is, to non-bronies/people who don't care about or pay attention to her. If she had normal eyes it would be much better.

And all the bronies will be decked out in :muffin: Pony Hooves stuff anyways (even if they planned to do so before, Hasbro is pretty much asking for it now), so its not like they need her name on the box for it to be there.

Though maybe now bronies will shut up about "saving :muffin: Pony" like she's a real dying person.

It kinda makes sense tho.  Since G4s are their current version, I'm not surprised they went with a G4 (if this is in fact legit)  Given her extreme popularity, it was probably a smart move on their part.  I do think she's kinda plain (even her box is kinda plain/muted) compared to the previous years, tho.

It's been cannon since the episode with Iron Will.  When Fluttershy is at the market, :muffin: Pony's saddle bag has a muffin on it.  Also Lyra's saddle bag has Bon Bon's cutie mark on it and vice versa.

Scruffy seconds this. :/

That said, I'm also very excited! And annoyed! Torn between frustration and excitement, TBH. Because - yay, Bubblecup toy!! Boo, Hasbro catering to an often-offensive minority who loooove to woobify a mentally-disabled stereotype that they cling to as their "fandom baby." If this was a completely-unrelated toy - Carrot Top, Bon Bon, Dr. Whooves! - I wouldn't be offended, but with all of the issues surrounding this pony, her appearance, and the disgusting fanon that has sprung up around her, yeah, I'm worried. As long as it doesn't say ":muffin: Pony Hooves" anywhere on the box, I can try to pretend that Hasbro has learned SOMETHING, at least. :/ There's not nearly as much wrong with a sweet, wall-eyed, muffin-loving pegasus who just happens to be clumsy as there is with the whole fanon behind :muffin: Pony.

just her, herself, without the name, voice and being bullied by rainbow, never caused any problems or drama. as this is her as she was, without the three things people always began fights over, i think it's just fine. it'd be a shame to have to shelve a character forever because some people take the cartoon way too seriously.

also, not sure why this makes some folks sadder about having a chance to get her. doesn't this confirmation mean it'll be much easier to get her than before when she was just a mystery with a few hundred taobao rejects floating around...? maybe i underestimate how hard it can be to get the CC pony...

anyway, hope they do have a way to keep one person from buying 200 at a time to scalp on ebay. that would be quite a shame for any young people who'd like to buy her with their own money at the con.

Yes, the nerve of the studio, putting a small image on an accessory held by a pony in the background that no one would ever notice unless they were specifically looking for it. Shame on them for trying to show their fans how much they appreciate them.

On topic, it's going to be so hard not to immediately buy this on eBay for 4x what it's worth. Sometimes it sucks not having limitless money for ponies.

I love :muffin: Pony so much. It's a shame that there is so much controversy around her even in this community.  You can't make everyone happy and I think it's a good thing that Hasbro is listening to fans. I'm just glad everything coming out isn't all pink on pink! Maybe they'll do something really special for us older collectors for the 30th anniversary then, like some G1 ponies in G4 style :-)

Yes, but you have to be very vigilant to get one, because of course every G.I. Joe / Transformers / MLP / etc fan is storming the site that day, trying to get their fandom exclusive.

I just about had a heart attack when the SDCC red superhero pony was there, because the site kept going down.  I kept trying and trying to get one and my order would NOT go through.

Or so I thought.

A week later thirteen SDCC showed up on my doorstep.  (And yes, I was charged for all of them--even though the credit card confirmation email only came through on ONE of them!!)

I'm kind of ambivalent on this issue.  It's neat that there's so much creative output from the fans, but at the same time, it seems like so many of them take a very uncreative approach to the material, pulling broad generalizations out of minor details, and continuing one another's silly in-jokes long past the point where they were actually funny.  In this case, why is it that :muffin: Pony appearing in a whole crowd of ponies that wanted muffins means that she in particular has to be defined by an obsession with muffins?  It doesn't make sense to me, and I'm not sure that this kind of thinking is what Hasbro should be making tributes to.

I need to save some money, I'd love to get one if she is legit.

I know some are upset they are not still using the same G3 molds, but it does make more sense (to me) for them to have the current G4 molds as the new exclusive.

Anyway, reguardless of whatever all the controversy is (which I don't think I know what it is all about) I think she is a cute pony.  I like her colors and her silliness.  <3    No, she isn't as decorative as other exclusives, but I like her simplicity.   <3

Are there any people going to the con or trying to get MIB from Taobao that would be able to snatch as many as they can?  Down here in Aus I have little to no chance of getting a :muffin: Pony now, bummed at Hasbro for that. I mean, I can't even get one off the website because they don't sell internationally... Hasbro isn't being very nice to international fans of the show, and they're not being very smart about it on a whole. I mean seriously, do they want to make a profit with her or do they want to sell limited numbers and watch people scalp fans for huge amounts selling on eBay when those profits could be theirs?! Strikes me as silly.

It is funny the details fans pull out of the show about background ponies, nothing against it though. The only pony I really know is :muffin: Pony and she represents a certain 'power to the people' thing for me. I know the names of a few others and have seen them doing their meme but I'm really not that fussed with them.

I will add, in a fit of smugness, that I knew she was real all along despite what EQD said.  And am fine with them releasing her as long as they don't put the name ":muffin: Pony" on the box.

I'm not going to be after her myself, though, because I really don't like the wings on the Fashion Styling ponies at all.  They're just weirdly big.

Oh well, I don't mind her being the Comic con pony, means I save money as I really don't like the fashion style pose or size. I do hope there will be a regular size release sometime though. Changing over to G4 style makes sense I guess, and I don't like the G3 mold anyway so it's not upsetting me. I had to have last years though, gorgeous she is ^^. In general I am happy when I don't like new releases, more money can be spent on my main passion G1 ponies :D <3.

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH.

This is spectacular news!

EDIT: Alright, I got so excited that I forgot to post something constructive. Sorry!

I think it's great that she's the Comic Con pony. A wide release would have been cool, but this nonetheless means that they will be more available. I'm sure there will still be plenty of shenanigans still, but I'm still optimistic. :)

Why is the MLP logo on the box blue, anyway? Is it common for Comic Con box art to feature the logo in different colors like that?
Title: Re: New :muffin: Pony Pics on Taoboa

Oh, making her an exclusive "collectable" aimed at older fans makes sense! I didn't think she was real before because as popular as she is with bronies, it seemed odd for Hasbro to make just one non-mane-6 Fashion Size toy to sell in regular stores...most little kids, who I assume are the main consumers of store-bought toys, probably wouldn't be interested. But as a limited-edition toy sold for a higher price where primarily older fans will find her, that makes so much more sense.

I admit, I am a little sad they're not keeping the G3 design since that's the model they've gone with for a while now and I like consistency, but I get why they did this, even if I don't particularly like the character or how the fandom practically worships her. I also think it's fine that her name isn't on the box...do any of the CC exclusives have a name on the box? But I do get it, and hey, at least a lot of people will be happy with it.

Nice that there'll be more available, not so nice that there definitely won't be enough. I guess it's good that more people will be able to own her, but it sucks for someone like myself that has no chance of attending the con, and can't purchase from Hasbro's online store. I'm sure there's a chance of people on here doing orders for her, but I don't think I could get the money (or a slot?) on time. :\

But I do hope Hasbro still makes G3 art ponies...

Is anyone going to order the one(s) that are on taobao right now in the box from the seller that posted those photos? If so I'd like to get in on that group order, if there's more than one. Might be easier than getting it at the con. >_>;;

I'm hoping she pops up more frequently now, and for a more reasonable price.  I definitely want her!!

I would love to get into a group order too since I know some people who would really love one but just don't have access  :) Though I don't know if someone is organizing it?

EDIT: If they are even still available 0_0

The problem with a group order is sheer weight - these will work out expensive to ship unfortunately...as much as they are only about $8ish now plus commission, the weight of several of them could be scary!

Plus I wouldnt be surprised if they are already all sold out - a lot of people had open :muffin: Pony/Ditzy orders which will probably be fulfilled by agents with this item. The issue becomes that in order to order you have to pay up front - so if you order 10 you have to pay for 10 and if there are none the person who has made the group order is a little out on money as sometimes it takes a while to get your money back.

Yeah, the agent I use charges $30 a pound or something like that to ship things. The added mass of these boxes might add to the ship cost, too. I think the link's all over the Internet by now, too. :(

Hathrocat, I didn't know that some agents would try to fill outstanding orders with new postings! Maybe I should switch; I've had an outstanding :muffin: Pony order since they were first found on Taobao.

I also understand why people are disappointed it isn't G3 since that was a tradition right?

It is. And when Hasbro unveiled the new G4 toys two years ago they told us that even though there was a new line/generation of toys they would continue to utilize the G3 mold for art ponies and exclusives. A lot of people have been collecting the G3 art/exclusives for a while now, so to me it seems like such a slap in the face for hasbro to cave to the pressure of these new fans and go back on what they told their long-time collectors.

Smart business sense? Yes. Understandable? Yes. But it's still disappointing to me.

Maybe they'll be nice and offer some online after the convention, since she's so popular. I'd really like to own one myself. :3  They thankfully did the same with the MH exclusive last year, and I managed to get my Ghoulia for $20, but they did sell out after like 2 days.

Though with :muffin: Pony being so popular, It's going to be fun trying to obtain one on the site afterward, considering how fast the blind bags sold out when they were initially released on Hasbro's site.

Aww I didn't know about that story D: That does seem really lame of Hasbro to just disregard that promise x_X I knoww the chances are slim but maybe they'll have 2 exclusives? 1 G4 and 1 G3?

Actually they said that when everyone was panicking about G3.5s. And it wasn't like they said the would keep using G3's until the end of time just for the time being. Anyways there is still the Fair pony. While SDCC might be more of an event for media fans the Fair is still for collectors.

Yes you should try Bergamot - most agents want to fulfil orders not issue refunds otherwise they go to all the work of contacting sellers and as they cant fulfil an order they miss out on their commission. Some agents will often already have identified the product and contacted buyers with is as an alternative - others you may have to prod in order to get them to action!

Aw. Well, maybe they will still have a G3 exclusive AND :muffin: Pony available. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in Hasbro. They have had a nice fandom before FiM that has worked to keep the spirit of MLP alive with fairs and cons and meets. Now their new fandom bunch is sometimes rabid on the Internet and they catered to them.  A lot of fans really loved the G3 exclusives and even non-pony fans liked them, and enjoyed collecting them.

I hope that was okay to say and moderately polite.

Aha! Thanks for the advice, Hathorcat!

I think that they are picking the winner later this week. That's going to be a one-off toy, for display, however. I don't think they are going to mass-produce it.

Hm...I don't see why someone would fake this. For one thing, they stand virtually no chance of NOT selling any :muffin: Pony, but to add to that, they stand a better chance of selling her if no one knows that she's going to be officially released (in some capacity), or at least that's what I would think, since that would make her even more rare...

Anyway, I don't know how I feel about this. I just really dislike exclusives because, well, so many of us are excluded from ever even having a fair chance at getting them. :/ I would really like a :muffin: Pony myself, but I think I'd prefer her in standard G4 size. I agree with everyone commenting on the too-big wings of the Fashion Styles...

CC ponies are normally $35 each on the Hasbro stand.

My SDCC pony last year was $16, actually.  So I'm thinking somewhere around there.  Isn't it the fair pony that's 30 or so?

Looking at the :muffin: Pony I have...the eyes are much smaller on that boxed :muffin: Pony. I like the eyes bigger...I'll still ask my friend to pick me up a couple since she has preview night passes (hopefully they'll sell them then) I wonder i f the bigger eyed ones are going to be worth more since this basically confirms that they're alternates and less of them.

Also that box..the logo looks a bit cheaply printed on. I'm not sure about CC pony boxes but normal pony box colours are just more vibrant.

This post pleases me! (But I dislike the thorns some against the newer community, I think the bronies are okay. I heard the community makes people that think of quitting life can make them rethink that, never judge a pony because of it's cover.)
If her name isn't :muffin: Pony... Is it Ditzy Doo? Or.. Amberlocks? I heard they extended the licence for that one.
Personally I prefer Ditzy Doo over :muffin: Pony, it sounds better in my opinion, and prettier of course.

Omg!!!!! I need this! If it'll really be at comic con then I will totally be paying someone to pick one up for me hahah. I don't do taobao and al the legit :muffin: Ponies in the sales forum that have popped up are all too far away to justify shipping costs and complications.

Although this will probably be disgustingly expensive too, but oh well. And I too think the eyes look smaller which is kind of a downer since the big eyes really grew on me haha!

Oh look... it's the Comic-Con exclusive.  Or not...  :(

Wonder how much Hasbro is losing out because these were leaked early and people rushed to get thier orders filled from Taobao.  I mean, WE are the consumers... we're NOT supposed to be buying them factory-direct with no Hasbro middleman.  :(  Well.  Likely one pony won't put a dent in the MLP line's sales for this year but still...

The ones that were sold first had larger eyes, so it confirms that it was the prototype or factory reject/experiment version of her. Ooh, if someone collects factory variants the larger-eyed ones might be valuable someday! You can't fake BIGGER eyes, after all; it's not like wiping off a symbol and calling your pony a "mysterious blank flank".

I honestly know "almost" nothing about this particular character. I have been collecting one of each single and Fashion Style pony from the G4 line. I keep trying to "get it" but I just fall short.  :( I just can't fall in love with these like I did with G1s and G3s. So now I need to decide if I will add this one to the pony room or save for an nice nirvana instead. With the new influx of collectors I just feel that there won't be as many left as in the previous years. The SDCC pony was available on the Hasbro site for quite a while after the Con. It is a good shoutout to fans of the new series. The posters were, too. :)

I think :muffin: Pony feels like an inside joke to fans of the previous generations. If you're not interested in the cartoon and you only collect the toys, then chances are that you're not a :muffin: Pony fan. In the past, the Comic Con ponies have been colorful art pieces. Aesthetically, :muffin: Pony isn't terribly pleasing, but if you're a fan of the character, you see past that and enjoy a different kind of novelty about it.

I can see why some folks aren't terribly enthusiastic about this, and I hope that the Fair keeps doing G3 ponies if that's what the other collectors would like to see!

Yes, MrPony, because a custom is EXACTLY the same as an official collectable piece.

I don't see much anger here...some people are disappointed because it's not what they expected, but they're entitled to feel that way, especially since it sounds like Hasbro said they would do a G3 mold pony, so some were expecting that. I think :muffin: Pony is a nice gesture to recognizing newer fans, and it makes sense, but she is kind of an inside reference that isn't appealing to pony fans in general, not even all G4/FiM fans like myself, so it does feel a little exclusive to one group. If that's what Hasbro's going for, well, OK, I just hope they realize that.

And yes, I realize a G3 mold isn't appealing to everyone either, but it's the closest Hasbro has to a "generic" pony, especially since the CC pony tends to be an ornate original character not matching the style of any TV show or previous toy set. I don't think moving away from that somewhat is necessarily a bad thing either, but this is very different from what they've done before. Maybe they'll release two ponies? I doubt it, but that could be cool.

Since they are using her as the CC pony and she is a known pony and in the show I wonder if she will see a general release as well? It would be good for Hasbro financially to release her world wide later than just keep her as a CC pony and would make more since than any of the past CC ponies would have. She doesn't appear to have any special marks does she like Pinkie Pie & Rarity fair ponies had?

... not that it really matters to me this pretty much seals the deal that i won't EVER see a :muffin: Pony for a reasonable non-stupid more than 20, maybe 30, bucks price ... i am so super stoked that she is getting an official release (though it's not REALLY official yet lol) but it rips my heart out to know that i won't ever see her :( i love that poor clumsy little pony, so relateable :(

Attitudes like this are exactly why there is a divide between new and old fans. No one here was being angry, no one was saying anything bad about G4s, and yet you felt the need to come along and be rude and disrespectful to collectors of older generations.
I agree with NoD on this, granted I still have my doubts but comments like that really aren't needed..

Look, I don`t mean to offend you, by suggesting you to be artistic. Do you see what the bronies have done? There are a billion custom :muffin: Pony`s out there, the custom plushes are selling for thousands of dollars. The Bronies improved MLP they deserve for this pony to be made. Don`t complain about this.

I collect every pony generation and the real reason a rift exists it that some people refuse to move on.  Like I said before they can leave the G3 ponies for the pony fair.

This quote makes me *Cringe*

On a lighter note... I really really doubt they'll change the mold for the fair exclusive so there's kinda something for everyone :)

MrPony, you say the reason there is a rift because people refuse to move on. It is to my understanding that most bronies hate anything that isn't G4.

This is VERY offending to me.  "The Bronies" weren't the only ones who "made"  :muffin: Pony customs.  And how in the world have they improved MLP?

And that's why some folks think bronies suffer from entitlement issues.

I'm a brony too but...I find this post very rude. Bronies have not "improved" MLP. Hasbro does not owe us anything.

I'm quite happy they've decided to make a :muffin: Pony toy, but saying that G3 should stay out of Comic Con is quite offending to the collectors of older generations.

^ I feel the same way as Zenobiaa here.  Bronies are a great, talented fandom (well, you know, aside from the entitled jerks, but every fandom has those), but they didn't do anything to "improve" MLP, and we do not "deserve" to get anything in return for liking a good show.

I am happy to see :muffin: Pony as a SDCC pony, and I'm excited to see if they'll do anything else fun with the G4 mold.  It's impossible to have something for everyone, but I'll be happy when they start making some less generic G4's.  There are already a lot of REALLY cool ponies from previous generations, so I think it'll be nice for G4 collectors to have some more fun ponies too C: and isn't there still the fair too?  I don't know much about that, but it seems like a great compromise to have one event with a G4 and one with a G3 mold!  Although I may be wrong about that being the case?  Haha.

I think they should have keep the art aspect to it all and created a 'special' pony for the event like they have for all past SDCCs. This one would work as a general release much better and an art type pony would have been allot better for the collectors and I think it would have pleased more people even if it was in a G4 mold. It makes the pony less special to me being a show character instead of an art type pony.

Yeah pretty much what these people said. And regarding your first post, a custom is NOT the same as an official pony, not at all. Plus the people who are upset about this likely didn't WANT a G3 :muffin: Pony, they probably wanted another cool, original pony in a G3 pose. So telling them to go off and make a custom really doesn't make sense and is, frankly, disrespectful.

And finally, new fans are NOT more deserving of special things than old fans are, just because they've turned MLP into the latest fad.

I think there's still a possibility of releasing a :muffin: Pony and something else. Don't they have a contest going on right now to design a Comic-Con pony on their Facebook? I don't think this is going to be the only Comic-Con exclusive pony we see this year.

I think the competition may have been a one off - when HB have done similar in the past nothing made it to release but I do like the idea of their being an "alternate" that would be cute and make Comic Con 2012 even more special as it would be first time there were multiple products.

This. I loved the superhero ponies because it captures the core of Comic Con. And the art ponies were just beautiful. I think it's the fact we might not get to see that beauty and creativity the SDCC ponies usually have. That's why I'm annoyed.  Because they could've just SOLD :muffin: Pony as an exclusive on their website.

I've been customizing since before some bronies even knew MLP existed, so don't start with me. If you're going to be rude and hateful, go do it somewhere else. The arena is a place for people who are accepting of all generations and all collectors - not for people on some ego kick that think bronies were the first people to ever appreciate my little pony.
