The new dolls and horses are beautiful, but I have a soft spot for that hispanic Day-to-Night Barbie... so cute!

Quick update: the seller replied! As I thought, the episodes are the ones aired in Italy in 1980. No original japanese language, I'm sorry! :(

Hi there, I'm italian. :) Be aware that the YT video refers to some custom DVDs made by cutting the original episodes aired on the Italian TV (as there are no official DVDs of "Kashi no Ki Mokku" available here in Italy at the present time). I highly doubt there's a japanese version included, I'm sorry.

This said, I did a reverse search of one of the images and I found an auction for the custom DVDs (http://www.vivastreet.it/usato-cd-dvd-videogiochi-libri/milano/le-nuove-avventure-di-pinocchio-serie-animata-in-dvd/146555358 NOTE: since I'm posting this link as proof, not to advertise the auction, I hope it's fine. If not, I apologize!) and sent a mail to the guy asking if – by chance! – the DVDs have the japanese audio included. I'll let you know if/what he replies.

I would add that the vivastreet site doesn't really have any insurance for buyers to begin with (it's just an advertising space...) so I wouldn't really buy from there... scammers are everywhere, sadly. :/

Re the cracking/flaking fake leather-  I actually did some research and found this really helpful article!

I ordered the fake leather conditioner he recommended, and plan to dig out all my faux leather doll clothes/shoes/bags to treat

https://fauxleatherguide.com/how-to-prevent-faux-leather-from-cracking.html

Wow, that's interesting! I didn't know such care products exist...
I might give it a try! :)

i just got a brand new shelf for my dolls. i dont have many, but they desperately needed a new home since my closet wasnt doing them justice. my vintage dolls are very sturdy! of course they dont stand up on their own like some of my others, but they have no damage after all these years and their clothes are still high-quality.

Cool! I have a couple LDD from Mezco hanging out on my desk (plus other 1/6 action figures) but my cat loves to knock them down everytime... at least they're sturdy. I'd love to display dolls around but that's pretty impossible, given the situation

whoever the photo of the doll is that you posted, she is really really pretty!!!
i don't play with many of my dolls, but i really like changing around their outfits and creating personalities for them.

Thanks! She's a Judy Littlechap doll from Remco. I love her. :)

Do you also sew for your dolls? I too tend do create personalities for the ones I like the most, then buy a couple outfits that (in my opinion) suit them best... and pretty much leave them in those same clothes forever. :P  If only I knew how to sew it would be funnier, I think...

I especially love the grey Topanga one... :inlove:

The Dollhouse / Doll cabinets: an adventure
« on: August 21, 2017, 01:32:26 PM »
While I do love take pictures of my dolls, the ones that get all the attention are just a handful. The other live in my cabinets.
Every year I try to reorganize/clean everything thoroughly and check on dolls/outfits to make sure both are ok. This is, unfortunately, one of those tasks I LOATHE because it always takes days and I'm not a very patient person... On the other hand, it's not enough to stop me from collecting, so here we go...
Fun facts from this year's adventure (in cleaning ):

- vintage dolls stand the test of time gracefully. My newer ones suffered from plasticizers leaking, floppy limbs and unruly hair. Grrr.
- Japanese dolls seem to age better than their western counterparts... which is hilarious, since they're both made in China or something. Dolly mysteries!
- fake leather disintegrates at light speed... even those fancy FR shoes and purses. Thanks, Integrity.
- Kenners are cute but this vintage lady is cuter:

What about you? Where you display/store your dolls? Do you like to play with each and every or just a handful? Do you have favourites? I'm curious, please share! :)

The Dollhouse / Re: Dolly Waiting Room #2- Who are You waiting for?
« on: August 15, 2017, 12:44:47 PM »
I've just ordered a custom Blythe that will be ready to ship in a couple months at best. I'm very curious because she's the first custom I order - instead of just buy it "as-is".
I made a quick mockup to explain the customizer how I imagine her... :D

The Dollhouse / Re: What kind of doll collector are you?
« on: August 15, 2017, 10:32:13 AM »
I started with BJDs then slowly shifted focus to 1/6 fashion dolls. I used to like FR and all japanese/asian kind of dolls (Misaki, Annz dolls, some obscure lines from Volks and Azone, Licca, Momoko, Rune dolls, U-noa Light... name it and I probably have it or know it), and Blythe/Pullips to a lesser extent. Then had a vintage phase and started collecting folls from the 60s/70s. Then came MH. Then I decided that action figures were a thing. Then I  got interested in Disney dolls and thought I had to have some. Then playlines again. Then Blythes again...

I guess I go with anything that piques my interest at any given moment, even if I tend to stick to dolls that are unique and peculiar in some way.

I have a soft spot for redheads and PINK-haired dolls, which is a bit surprising since I don't usually like dolls that are too stereotypically "girly".

I also love kitbashing characters with 1/6 action figures, even if the hobby became a bit too expensive as of late and it's not as funny anymore...

Oh my! Crystal-Sushi, all these concepts are wonderful! I was never really into Novis, but I'd snatch these doll in a second if they were real! :)

thanks Duenia! I can relate with your comment about stating the things that are specific and then leving free reign. Sounds like a perfect compromise. :)

Hey, thanks orangepeachmango and Pokeyonekenobie (I saw your reply after I had originally posted mine, whoops! :D) – I love detailed replies!

I am just curious about how the topic is perceived in the collectors' world: to be honest, the fact I just ordered a doll was a mere trigger! :)

I agree with you that communication is fundamental and if you – customer – have a clear idea in mind then it's your responsibility to explain yourself thoroughly in order to avoid any misunderstanding later! At the same time, I wonder how this impacts the creativity of the artist...
Quick example: I'm a designer and I know that if I accepted a commission then I would love a detailed explanation but up to a certain point. I mean, my style/my creativity shouldn't be sacrificed in order to achieve a result, otherwise I wouldn't be an artist but a mere... technician? (in loss of a better word, no offense intended) At the same time, I'm aware that I'm paid for creating something and I should follow the customer's idea the best I could.

That's why I'm curious about the opinions of the other collectors and artists around. :)

In the same situation, how many fellow collectors want to leave the artist some room, and how many prefer to detail everything beforehand?
And if you're an artist, are you more willing to follow the customer's expectations to the smallest detail, or you prefer to add some "spice" and let your style/creativity filter through? Would you consider these "creative touches" as normal and wanted or something to be discussed beforehand?

The Dollhouse / Custom dolls: creativity vs. customer's expectations
« on: August 14, 2017, 04:27:35 PM »
Hi everyone! I'm a lurker that just sporadically comment, feel free to consider me a newbie. :)
I used to collect ponies but now I'm more focused on dolls; I absolutely adore customs and I bought some in the past, but they were always bought as-is, without any involvement, on my part, in the creative process. Yesterday I finally gave in and contacted a customizer to have a Blythe doll made exactly like I dreamed! Now, being a creative myself (just not in this field) there's something that bugs be a bit: to what extent should a customer go in detailing its expectations? Where lies the balance?

You love the customizer's style and some improvisation is always welcomed, but at the same time there's a big amount of money involved and you want everything to be as perfect as possible...

Did it happen to you? What would you do in the same situation? Do you prefer to just discuss the "general concept" of the doll/pony and leave the rest to the customizer's creativity, or are you more into explaining everything in detail?

I'm curious to hear your opinions! :)

Introductions / Re: Howdy! :)

Thank you, everybody! :)

@kiwimlp: some of this, some of that... it depends on the figure, mostly! (although I like Star Wars and LOTR, too. :))
