Title: Plasticizer leak
Post by: elish2 on March 17, 2018, 12:22:36 PM
So wondering if there is more prevalence of plasticizer leakage in certain ponies. I have seven ponies that seem sticky, most likely leakage...and 5 of them are year two rainbow ponies. The other two are blue ponies. Does it seem to be certain ponies are more likely to have it?

I find certain Twinkle Eyes seem prone to it. Actually, now you mention it, Sweet Pop is one of those. Also Baby Lucky and Quarterback, who aren't TEs but are blue. Maybe there's something to that...

I think I have noticed it in other TE ponies. I also have a party time who is really rock hard so clearly went through the process before I got her.

Heat seems to be a factor in it as well though. I don't have it in many of my ponies but my ponies live in a cold cupboard in the UK, not known for its tropical weather ;) I know someone from Aus mentioned that some ponies there had gone through the whole process in a short space of time.

That's true, I ran into a Party Time once who was as hard as a rock. Hmm...

Seconding TEs, my Sky Rocket is completely hard and has been since I got her.

The weird thing is that I don't think my childhood Masquerade has shown any signs of this yet. But then she's never been in a hot climate? I dunno. Baby Lucky has it but Masquerade doesn't, yet I must have had them at the same time. Also Snowflake and Cherries Jubilee- neither of them have it, nor does my original Windy. I don't think I've ever had a Rainbow Pony with leak.

My Sky Rocket comes from here in the UK but I don't know her past history at all before I got her.

Sweet Pop comes from the US, though, and so does Quarterback, and a lot of places over there have higher sustained temperatures than here at times of the year...

I do think there's a random factor involved as well though. Each batch of plastic would be slightly different.

I don't know if you were just asking about G1 ponies exclusively, but I know that G2 Hip Holly is terrible for it  I have a MOC Hip Holly and she's really sticky... She's well known for it.

My TE Fizzy and Galaxy are hard as rock too so I agree with the above too...

Oh yes. Hip Vomit and Queen Stickysparkle are both major candidates for this.

Lol.

I live in Ohio where it is pretty cold most of the time. Summer can get really humid though, but we control things in my house. I used to think people where joking about all the weather happening in one day, until I experienced it though. Started off sunny, then started raining, then snowing, back to rain, then sunny again...lol

Sounds like a typical day in Britain  :)

I have a lot of the Twinkle Eyes but have never uncounted it with them. Most of my ponies who have gone rock hard are blue though.

Huh... haven't really run into it with my TE, but I really only have a few. So will have to keep an eye out for it.

Oh, all of the big brothers I've ever seen myself were rock hard. Is that not natural? :o I always just thought that was the way they were.

The 2nd set of rainbow ponies for sure. It can be tough to find one where the leak hasn't rusted the symbols. And I definitely have a few TEs with it too - also anything post G1 with a transparent/glittery body, Hip Holly, Queen Sunsparkle and the G3 Divine Shine set.

I have white ponies that are hard as a rock. Could that be related to a leak, or are some just hard? Mainly Chief, Tiffany, and Baby Stockings, who also are all very white. Adult boy ponies seem harder than the ladies anyway but Chief was a rock, unlike my slightly squishy Salty and Slugger.

Yeah Big Brothers are also prone... my Tex has always been like that.  Pretty sure that the Steamer I have in my trade box is also a rock.

The only ponies I have that are rock hard are Chief and Tex, who have already been mentioned...and Gingerbread, who's a TE. I have two collector's pose ponies (Lemon Drop and FF Butterscotch) that are feeling sticky and I'm guessing it's the start of plasticizer leakage.

Interestingly, going back to the TE thing, my UK bought Speedy (darker colour) has sticky issues but my paler one from Europe doesn't.

I think the only brother I have with the issue is my Quarterback from the US.

I can't remember having the issue on my Mountain Boys. My childhood boys have some issues, but not sure that's one of them.

I also can't remember this as a problem on any of my y3 rainbow ponies either...

Gingerbread is just a disaster waiting to happen, sticky or not. She and Starshine and maybe Quackers all fit into that unfortunate bracket of ponies-who-prefer-to-be-beige.
