Title: Went to a small toy exhibition, saw 5 ponies amongst Barbies
Post by: RoseNoire on December 30, 2017, 07:39:27 AM
Well, I went to a toy exposition in Liège (Belgium), I thought there would be more ponies but no, they were just put in one single scene with barbies. The exposition was a bit confusing, I think they were trying to be political or trying to talk about stereotypes and genders, but since I don't care about that, I just didn't mind very much about the texts displayed along the scenes so it was pleasant enough nonetheless to see each scene.

So here are some pics I took when I finally spotted some ponies.
Thanks to TheBeatlesPkmnFan42 and Safflower for the identification ! =D

Hope you like that I showed you a piece of the exposition. Have a nice day. =)

Baby G2 - Baby Fleur
G1 - Snuzzle
Adult G2 - Butterfly
G3 - Morning Dawn Delight

The fakie is very similar to Remco ponies, but IIRC those usually don't have any kinds of symbols, so it's more likely another company using a Remco mold.

It's cool that you found ponies there! As for identification, all I can tell you is that the gray pony is G1 Snuzzle.

Yay, huge thanks to both of you for the identification. I didn't know it was Snuzzle. I should study more my G1s.
Glad you like it, have a great day.

Well, it was nice indeed, but they were just exposed there, I don't own them. Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

That's not the horse that goes with that stable at all

(Barbie really would never say "pink stinks" when she had a whole shade of it named after her  )

Well, I'm not sure what was the point of this exposition, but I had stuff to see. Indeed Barbie wouldn't say that, especially while wearing pink. There's this whole vibe of "anti-stereotypes" and questioning about genders going on nowadays. Like I said, I didn't read their text, I don't really care about those unimportant questionings.

Here's a translation of this exhibition' description, maybe a missed a point you'll notice :

<<
When the toy is star ... extended until 01/07/2018!

Enter into the fantastic universe of toys where everything is possible....Dolls, vehicles, figures, robots, miniatures...hundreds of toys get into action in incredible, nay improbable staging for your greatest pleasure!

The exhibition <<Jouet Star>>'s staging immerses you with emotion and nostalgia into the heart of this enchanted world. You will inevitably find your childhood toys.

Loved, forgotten, found, some toys go through eras of life by our sides. But behind the apparent innocence of games, do toys hold beliefs, values or stereotypes ?

And you ? Would you dare to pass through the other side of the mirror ?
>>

I mean, I don't believe in gender roles, but I also think just putting a pile of 90s Barbies there and calling it a day isn't really a demonstration of anything "stereotypical".

(We need more nurturing toys aimed at boys, especially baby dolls. Teach them how to be good dads from the very start.)

A fun exhibit, thanks for showing and providing the French text/translation  :)

(We need more nurturing toys aimed at boys, especially baby dolls. Teach them how to be good dads from the very start.)

Here's a thing: a lad at my kid's school is the stereotypical rough-and-tumble, tough, stick-swishing, stone-throwing little boy - but I always see him rush over to his newborn sister and give her a tender kiss when his mum comes to collect him from school! So sweet.

I am unsure, though, how successful such a toy would be  :wonder: - in this case, it is almost like this boy has a double life - the tough kid at school and then the gentle big brother at home  ah well, this is a deep discussion!

Well, "My Buddy" dolls were very successful until the movie Chuckie came out.  The Chuckie doll was obviously based on "My Buddy" (almost the exact outfit My Buddy wears), which resulted in a lot of kids becoming scared of their dolls.  That's one of the reason I've never liked the Chuckie movies . . . It was mean to purposely make kids scared.  :/  (It's also just a dumb premise for a movie, like come on.)

But anyway, yeah, My Buddy was aimed at preschool aged boys (the commercials for him always showed boys playing with him), so boys are definitely not 'allergic' to dolls if they know they're aimed at them.  Here's the ad for My Buddy:

Also G.I. Joe, etc.  "Action figures" are literally just dolls.  Not baby dolls, but dolls.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing!
I remember that Barbie stable very well - it was the stage for a heck of a lot of chaos back in the day (and of course it was partially taken over by MLPs.)
The point of the exhibition does kind of have the look of somebody having dropped the mic and proudly sauntered off-stage halfway through making a cogent point, but at least they gave it a shot. :silly:

Awesome when things like this happen. Sometimes ponies appear in weird places. I know there's a G1 Cherries Jubilee (2nd release) in the Bethnall Green Toy Museum in London (she's mislabelled in regards her year, but that is a toy museum so I guess she has a reason to be there). There's also, however, a random Sparkle Sky Rocket in the display cases within Turku Castle in Finland (or there was in 2011). I still have no idea why she is on display inside a Finnish castle...but it was a nice surprise!

Thanks for sharing your unexpected pony moment!

Baby G2 - Baby Fleur
G1 - Snuzzle
Adult G2 - Butterfly
G3 - Morning Dawn Delight

The fakie is very similar to Remco ponies, but IIRC those usually don't have any kinds of symbols, so it's more likely another company using a Remco mold.

G2 Adult is Princess Sky Skimmer .

Is there a difference between Sky Skimmer and Butterfly? At least by looking at pictures of them online (I don't own either of them) they look nearly identical. Is there a difference in their body or hair colors, they both seem to have versions in that pose. My Little Wiki seems to have them both on the same page.

TheBeatlesPkmnFan42 - Are you sure that G2 isn't Sky Skimmer?

Edit: I see other people have commented as well. Man, some G2s look all too similar.
