G1 smell is pretty nice. When I got my first pony (Tex) last year and opened the mailing box, I immediately thought he smelled like baby talcum powder. So that's the association in my mind. When I hopped in the car with my dad he agreed about the smell and told me that most 80s toys were like that. Now whenever I get a new pony the first thing I do is smell their head/hair to determine how grubby they are  lots of smell means not much dirty play. G4s have their own unique smell too, but it's a touch more chemical/plasticy than G1.

Mmmmm pony smell... I love it!  If I left my pony room door closed, it would smell like ponies when I went inside...  :)

This happens to me too, each time it happens I just pause and enjoy, stopping to smell the roses , er, ponies, so to speak

That smell is pretty much a trademark for G1's. I still remember the smell when I got my first ones back in the 80's. No other toy in the world  smelled like that. It smelled like.... OK I'm going too far.

It really was part of the unpacking experience! Pealing the bubble back, you get hit with that sweet new pony smell, and the pony would fall into your lap or waiting hands... it really is a nostalgic scent

One of my favourite things when going past or into my pony room - the wonderful pony smell.

I love 'new pony smell'! I wish they would make an air freshener for my car with it. It makes me so happy and 'high' from the nostalgia.

Yep, G1 smell is indeed a very real phenomenon--and a very nice one! I have yet to bring one home that didn't have the smell, in fact.

Yup :) Its awesome! Its something added to the plastic mix at manufacture of course but its not added to actually give a certain scent its added to cancel out the natural and slightly unpleasant smell the plastic would have. But its certainly worked out well for us collectors :)

My G1s smell nice once they are all cleaned up but they dont quite have that same "new pony" smell from when you first opened the package.

I have to admit that I secretly smell my daughters cabage patch dolls because they have a lovely baby powder smell.

I love it! If you get enough ponies together in one place the whole area smells like them.

The place where I keep all my Sweetberry, Sundae Best and Candy Cane ponies smells REALLY good, but the whole of my G1 area definitely has a cloud of "pony smell" around it if there's nothing else in the room to mask it.

Pony smell is certainly lovely! It tells me if I did a good enough job of cleaning up a grubby G1...

My whole room smells like pony right now. I'm in a super tiny space that's overrun by G1s.

G2s smell nice, too! A little more powdery, but also very pleasant. I wonder what scents G3s and G4s will have down the line?
