Ooh, Aladdin on the SNES was bugged but the Genesis version was awesome, and really quite brutal for a Disney game.

The Lion King was one of my favorites. I must've played it three or four times every day for a long while. People say it's hard, but I have muscle memory for it and can still breeze through it no problem.

@BC do you need a special display converter to play the SNES on a modern TV? i've been thinking about getting one to replace my old one. i miss some of the old games that aren't on the switch.

Yes, you can go three ways. An old fashioned RF switch, composite cables or an HDMI converter. I've used all three and I like HDMI converter the best, it's also the simplest. Just look for an SNES HDMI converter. I got mine from Amazon and paid about $30 for it. I also got an HDMI extension hub because both my PlayStations occupy both slots on my TV.

Ordered an HDMI converter and an SNES. i'm looking forward to playing some of the games i miss from my childhood. i'm hoping to get more physical media in general and quit relying on streaming and subscriptions. I really regret selling my games. I had my childhood SNES until it died but i didn't keep the games.

You can still find deals on eBay for games. I also got a lot from local flea markets and consignment shops. I would not buy old games from Gamestop, they are very overpriced.

i have the SNES and the cords but i can't get the SNES to work. i'm not sure what the issue is though. the Wii and Nintendo 64 work with the HDMI splitter and the HDMI converter. i'm really hoping i didn't get a dud SNES :(

So it's not playing games? Try cleaning the contact circuit with rubbing alcohol. You can use a cotton swab.

Try different games if you haven't already. Some might have dead batteries.

I know my SNES is very particular in how you put the carts in. You have to put the left side in before the right. So try different ways of inserting them.

edit: Here's a video on how to do a deep clean.

I'm trying out Super Mario RPG. I never played the original so it's taken some getting used to.

Is there a secret to beating the purple Crocodile/dinosaur thing in Moleville Mines?  I thought maybe a Triple Move would do it, but he was still able to defeat my team.  I think I got pretty close though because he stole the inventory items.  I also went back to some of the beginning areas and defeated easier enemies to level up.

I haven't played that game in a long time. The only thing I remember is how to defeat Culex, but he's a special end game boss. You could try looking for a spoiler free walkthrough.

I got to Johnny Shark in Super Mario RPG. I feel like I'm close to defeating him, but I'm missing something.  I looked on YouTube and did what that person did and it didn't work for me.  I guess it's back to fighting a bunch of enemies before trying to fight Johnny Shark again.

I bought a few games during the winter sales on Steam and Epic. One I started is Anno 1800. I was afraid it wouldn't run well because my PC is getting old, but it plays on high graphics with 60FPS so it's fine. It's so detailed and beautiful... and complicated. I couldn't even figure out how to move the boat in the first quest, then I couldn't figure out how to pick up the fish. I didn't play for long because I didn't know it was going to so in depth and have this grand story with it. I need to have the right mindset to play again.

I've played a lot more of Anno 1800 and it's not as complicated as I thought. It's like any other city builder but there's some depth to the production chains. I really like it so far. I haven't gotten into other islands or dealing with pirates or anything, but I like the building aspect very much.
