To de-package or not!
« on: September 22, 2012, 09:54:41 AM »
Hello!  So I like to make little pony accessories and made these little accessories for my UK activity club babies!  They are part of the wedding party for Tux and Satin!     Anyway Ribbons and Bows is mint in her package but she can't really dress up like that!  So I have her little outfit and she remains trapped in plastic!   I want to take her out but i am hesitant!  It seems like alot of these have popped up still in thier package so maybe it would be ok to take mine out!  I actually tried to get one out of the package but I lost the auctions.  Anyway I ended up winning this one for about the same price maybe a little less!  Sooooo shoud I take her out of the package?

I would say free her, but if the chances are high she'll be in bad places (ex. loose paint, dirty areas) or lack of experience with restoration, then keep her packaged.

Besides...packaging looks no good on any pony ;)

Honestly normally I'd say don't do it, but that one is so common MIP, I've seen at least 20 of her on eBay the last few months. So yeah feel free :)

Well she seem to be one of the more common ponies to find MIP, I myself happened to find two at once last weekend, so I guess it wouldnt matter too much if one was opened, but Im the type of collector who likes to preserve ponies in their packs for as long as possible...There arent too many MIPs and MOCs and MIBs left in the world...
May I suggest you look for one that is already loose?

I am always in 2 minds - I am a loose collector but I dont always like to release G1s from original packing.

However, this particular pony seems to turn up [certainly recently] in plentiful quantities so I think if you will get more enjoyment from her loose you should release her from her packing.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Set her free! Ponies in bags don't have the same kind of emotional thing for me as ones in boxes. There are no stories on the bags and there's no artwork so... also I have seen her bagged LOADS on ebay recently.

Honestly, I feel sad for the poor ponies when they are in the packaging... They are toys and so they are meant to be played with and free ! I understand when people don't want to de-package them because they are vintage and so on... But I am a loose collector and in fact I would sell any MIB pony I would get because I just wouldn't have the heart to debox something that I know someone would like as it is BUT... This particular one doesn't look any good on the package - it's just a plastic bag anyway. Besides, there's more of her as many here are saying, so... Set her free ! :D

Also, LOVE the little accessories !! :)

I am a MIP obsessive (bagged ponies especially) so I would say keep her sealed. She has flooded the market but then Baby Princess Sparkle did a couple of years ago and her value seems to have gone right back up.

If I could afford to buy ponies MIB/MIP honestly, I'd keep them in their original state. There are fewer and fewer that remain in their original packaging now....
She's your pony, go crazy, she'd look adorable dressed up with her siblings!

I do not know what to do about the packaging, but I would love to see the outfit on her with the others.  :satisfied:

OMG I love those outfits!  :D  Okay, now that's over...

Um... it's your pony, do what you'd like, but I'd leave her MIP and buy another one loose.

Ugh!  Still no closer to making a decision! Everyone makes valid points both to free her and leave her packaged!  Thank you everyone for your input!  You all make points that I have thought about.  Maybe I ll head over to ebay and look for an out of package one!
And thanks for the compliments about the little outfits!  I love making clothes!  When I was little my Grandma helped me crochet clothes for my ponies.  I would dress them up and have parades!   I had two strawberry shortcake babies and they would ride!  Lemon Merengue on Surprise and Strawberry Shortcake on Moondancer because they matched!

Oh maybe I will sell!  There is one list MIP for $300 lol!   There are also 5 more MIP for 11.99!

Those skirts/dresses are fantastic! I love the satiny pleated one!
I can see why people like to collect packaged ponies if the packaging itself is cool, with pictures and colorful visuals and such, but the packaging on these ones is so boring. I feel like the value should increase if it's taken out of the package! (Of course, we all know it doesn't happen that way, sadly.)
I'll put something here some time
