How would I find roommate in Florida?
« on: June 26, 2022, 10:27:11 AM »
I have been wanting to move near the cost for a long time. And now I am looking into it. I live in Colorado so I understand that Florida is expensive and not much different from Colorado. I Need to move for health reasons.
How do I even find anyone in Florida to room with? Like how can I even do that?

I would start by looking at local listings in the area you want to move to. Do you know what part of Florida? Also it depends on what coast. The Gulf coast is a little cheaper than the Atlantic. The further up the state you go, prices tend to go down too.

Not everywhere is expensive. If you move further inland you can find some nice rentals. Arcadia is nearby where I live and it's cheap, but close enough to the coast that you can visit the beaches.

I mostly can't comment on Florida specifically, but here are some ideas:

Will you be looking for a job there?  If you get a job offer before you move, you might be able to ask your future boss/coworkers for help finding a place.  This has worked for me in the past.

You could also try looking for a niche Facebook group to join and ask them for advice or if they know anyone who is looking for a housemate (like "Florida vintage toy collectors" or "Tampa reptile keepers" or something).  Obviously there is still stranger danger there...

Also keep doing like you did here, asking in a community you are already part of for advice. You never know who might know someone down there who could help you!

Another time I found shared housing by looking in an ad in the local newspaper (online edition), but that was ~15 years ago...  :drunk:

Best wishes in your quest!
