South African Heart Throb
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:56:21 AM »
HI,
I am in need of some advice from the experts....
My first pony was Cotton Candy.  I got her in South Africa, but she is not a Prima Toys pony as she does not have the rooted tail.  Shortly after getting her we moved to Canada for a year and I collected the majority of my ponies.
On my return to South Africa in 1987, I got Heart Throb.  It is only recently on passing the ponies on to my two daughters that I discovered my gorgeous white and red Heart Throb is very different from the Hasbro Heart Throb.  I found through research that it is the rooted tail that makes her unique, along with the fact that she is a completely different colour from the Hasbro pony.
Unfortunately things have become a bit tough financially and I have become the sole provider for my girls.  Because of this I have made the decision to sell Heart Throb.  I am in need of some guidance as to what I can ask for her and the best place to advertise.
There is some discolouration of the body - while the head has stayed white, the body has yellowed slightly.  Her hair is still in fantastic condition and I have her comb.
All comments and suggestions very welcome.

To post pictures, you'll first have to host them on another website, for example photobucket. Then you can put the pictures url in between [ img] and [ /img] (remove the spaces). You can get the pictures url by rightclicking on the picture and selecting "copy image url" or something along the lines. I hope that helps! :)

Welcome to the forum!

Heartthrob is fantastic  I'm sorry to hear you may be parting with her after so long.

I suggest taking offers with a reserve in mind, I also recommend sending her by tracked and insured shipping.

I've done some research for you and the prices vary between $800 to $3500 for Heartthrob. She is the fifth Heartthrob found I believe, which is why she can sell for so much. Since she's in such lovely condition I would think at least $1000 for her.

I hope this helps :)

Do an auction style for her. Start with the lowest you'd take for her and begin taking offers. You can do it as a silent auction if you'd like. She is gorgeous and I wish I had the funds now as I'd snatch her up.

Oh she is gorgeous! I'm curious about her comb. Do you have pics of it too?

I hope that her proceeds help you and your family out :)

Thanks to everyone for the comments....it is sad to let her go.  My daughters are both rather sad as she seems to be a favourite with them as well.  I managed to keep all of my ponies in pretty good condition.  The only one that has shown any sort of major discolouration is my So Soft Pony, Surprise.  My Twinkle Eyed Pony, Galaxy, has slightly frizzy hair, but otherwise they are all in good shape.
Now that I am aware of how rare the SA ponies are I am on the prowl, and not because of the money either, but because it would be lovely for them to go to a place where they can be put on display and looked after.
I will post a pic of the comb as soon as I have a chance.

I am both very happy, and a bit sad,  to say that I received a very generous offer for Heart Throb, which I have accepted.
It is very reassuring to know that she is going to a happy new home with lots of other ponies.
Thank you to everyone who gave advice, it is greatly appreciated.

She is absolutely beautiful! You must have really looked after her. One of the special things about South African ponies is how different they are from the standard issue and Heart Throb definitely is that.

Sorry you have to sell her, but hope that the money you get for her will go a long way

I've never seen a South African comb before, thank you for sharing :)

I didn't think you'd have to wait long for a bite ^.^ I hope the transaction is smooth for you and your buyer.
