Tips on removing smell?
« on: April 11, 2012, 08:05:55 AM »
I picked up a Cherry Treats from a thrift store that was sealed in a bag with two fakies. She is in really decent condition and her hair is amazing. Only problem is she smells horrible. It's like old lady powder. Even after a bath she smells so strong i can smell her from my highest shelf in my room. Anyone know any tips to try getting rid of the awful old powdery smell?

Most of the tips in this thread should help...

http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,292666.0.html

Whether its cigarette smoke or other un-sniffable scents the kitty/cat litter or baking soda or dryer sheet or simple fresh air some combo of the above usually works...

Good luck!

I have found that Cherry Treats original sweet scent over the years turns into an awful old lady perfume smell.  I have two right now that have always just stunk no matter what I try on them.  I might try the kitty litter thing but I am not sure that would even work on mine.

I just got some smokey ponies from a flea market, so I plan on trying the baking soda technique. There was a thread a few days ago that recommended putting a layer of baking soda at the bottom of some kind of container and then laying a paper towel over it to protect the pony from discoloration. Stand the pony on top and leave closed inside for a few days.

I'm going to try it tonight after I go get some baking soda. It sounds simple enough. The only other time I've ever used a de-stinking technique was on a smokey Sea Pony. I stuffed her full of dryer sheets and wrapped her up in some, then left her in a plastic bag for two days. When I took her out, she stank of smoke AND too-strong dryer sheet. So I'm not particularly keen on the dryer sheet method.

Ah I have not done enough research I see. I had no idea Cherry Treats was a scented pony in the first place. And I had glanced over the cleaning tips thread but missed getting rid of smell tips. I'll try some baking powder or kitty litter and report back. If i can even reduce the strongness of the smell that would be great because she kinda stinks up her corner.

I didn't know that pony was scented either, if she is that might be a tough one to solve as it might be in the plastic...deep I mean.

Yep, she is a Sweetberry Pony.  There scent matched whatever their symbol or recipe was.
