Pony Corral / Re: G1 vs G3 Pony toys?
« on: January 12, 2022, 11:11:29 PM »
I grew up with G1. Got my first two ponies, Snuzzle and Minty, when I was 4 or 5 and they are still my favorite but I loved them all. When G2came out I was disappointed and lost all interest in collecting even though I've since come to love them. When G3s came out they took a little while to win me over but I think playing ponies with Hannah when she was little helped a lot in that area.
I love both now though and have amassed a decent G3 collection to go with my G1 one.
If I had to pick one gen and one gen only it would be G1 hands down but G3 would be a close second. I still feel like G3s ended too soon before they had the chance to add more pony types as well as more missing unicorns, pegusi, and babies, all three of which G1 had an abundance of. Both of those gens definitely hold my attention more, I feel like the other gens changed things too much and they look less and less like ponies as time goes on.

SinisteaParty that's how I got mine. There was some damage to the box but as soon as I had her box out of the Amazon box I was getting her free so it didn't matter much to me. I'm not an in box collector so all of my toys get freed with the exception of one James from Pokemon figure but that's only because he was a gift and a double.

Pony Brag Arena / Re: BnG Bouquet's Long Deserved Bath!

She cleaned up nicely. She's a pony I used to have but I passed her on to Hannah. I still have my Braided Beauty from childhood and should really clean her up. I can only hope she'd turn out as nicely as your Bouquet. What method did you use for curling her hair?

Pony Corral / Re: How would you fix the 80s My Little Pony Movie?
« on: January 12, 2022, 10:13:31 PM »
Maybe I'm the odd one but aside from fixing some animation goofs I would leave the movie as is. I'm sure a lot of that is my nostalgia talking but that movie was one of the staples of my childhood.

Customs / Re: Customizers' chit-chat thread
« on: January 12, 2022, 10:08:53 PM »
I've prepped a cave kid for customizing. I'm excited to work on her more but the weather hasn't been right for using my sealant. Curse you winter!
I want to work on a custom pony but finding the right pony to use as well as having the right inspiration just hasn't happened.
I should look around for a cheap G4 or G5 since I've never customized either of them.
I also still need to figure out what to do about the split in my hybrid Ophelia's head and missing hair.
Does anyone know a place to get reasonably priced doll/pony hair? I'm really out of the loop with that side of things.

ETA:
Heard about Shimmer Locks in another thread so going to give them a try. If I like the hair enough then I will probably get more from them for other projects.

Off Topic / Re: Do you cut your own hair?
« on: January 08, 2022, 08:38:31 PM »
I've cut my own hair before but I usually had my sister in law do it for me. When it's just shaving I'll get help from my mom sometimes but not if scissors are involved.

Getting my Cave Club Emberly in the mail today. I needed her for a custom I want to do. Unfortunately her neck snapped when I removed her head, but I can still get her head on well enough for my needs. She's bald and naked now waiting for me to remove her factory paint. Now I just need to find some blond hair or a good yarn color and the right fabrics for her outfit.

Love how they all look side by side. You did a great job capturing them.

My Jett arrived yesterday but I didn't get around to opening her til late last night early this morning. I think I'm as into her accessories as I am her and will probably decorate with them when I finally get my sewing area set up.

The Dollhouse / Re: Dolly Waiting Room #2- Who are You waiting for?
« on: January 06, 2022, 09:05:35 AM »
Only doll I'm currently waiting on is a cave club kid I need for a custom. I finally got the collector rh Jett doll. I'd been putting her off because of her price but I managed to score her for under 25 which was too good of a deal for me to pass on. I'm in love with all of her accessories, especially where I've just recently gotten back into sewing clothing for my dolls. When I eventually get a designated area set up for my sewing machine I may use her accessories to decorate with.
Other than that I'm waiting on a wig for my 1/3 boy "Janus" .

She turned out lovely. That gold hair is to die for and her symbol being rainbow really adds a fun touch.

I loved my Barbie dolls as a little girl but they always took a back seat to my ponies and/or other animal toys. More than the dolls themselves I remember my favorite things I had for them. My absolute favorite Barbie thing I had when I was little in the 80s was her white cat, followed by her poodle Prince. Being animals they received a lot more play time and the accessories for the cat were amazing to me. I remember he came with a bed, scratching post, and pet carrier, all pink of course and the cat had velcro feet so it could "use" it's scratching post and hold on.
I have vague memories of having a peaches and cream Barbie and of a wedding Ken that came in a white tuxedo but those are the only dolls that stick until years later when I got back into getting Barbies so that my New Kids On The Block dolls could all have girlfriends lol, and I remember being more interested in Teen Skipper and Barbie's friends than I was in Barbie herself.
I did inherent quite a few things from an older cousin when she outgrew her toys including one of the swimming pool playsets and a yellow remote control convertible which both got a lot of use for a while.
In the 90s I started seeking out some dolls again but mostly for sewing clothing and bits of light customizing with my best friend. We'd spend hours in my room figuring out how to make this or that outfit with the supplies we had, repainting a few dolls here and there, some with nail polish because we didn't know better, and rehairing one of my childhood Skippers with some curly black doll hair that I probably grabbed from the craft aisle of the local walmart.
The only specific doll I remember buying during this time was the Beast from Beauty and the Beast and a Theresa doll to go with him since she was prettier to me than Belle.

They turned out great! What kind of paints are you using?
