Serious question for you lot.

I work in a library.  We need to update our Anime collections.  Moreso in our Adult area than Kids or Teen, but suggestions for those areas would be welcomed as well.  We don't do Anime that are basically porn (we live in a religious community and know those won't check out well so we Interlibrary Loan those titles if they're ever requested and honestly I don't think it's happened more than twice in the 10 years I've worked here).  We have stuff like Rorouni Kenshin, Attack on Titan, Trigun, Gate, and Yuri on Ice in the Adult section.  Our Teen section has stuff like One Piece, Dragonball, Naruto, My Hero Academia, My Love Story, His and Hers Circumstances and Sailor Moon (Teen has the largest selection--basically anything that has teenaged characters that doesn't have a lot of gore and excessive swearing).  The Kids section has stuff like Pokemon, Digimon, Hello Kitty, and lots of Studio Ghibli--you know, stuff kids can watch without their parents having to check it out first. Our checkout numbers on some of the ones we have aren't great so we thought if we revamp it a bit, it'll be better all around.

We want to know which Animes are current, popular, really good or just ones you wish you could find in your library.  (Even if you think we might have them--or I listed them as examples--put them on your list so we can get an idea of whether or not things we have are worth keeping around.)

Thanks everyone!

If you don't have Fruits Basket, that might be one, as it's quite mainstream popular and long-surviving, although it does have issues of abuse and such in it which may keep it in the teen section. Given the titles you already have, though, I can't imagine it being a problem series (unless people turning into animals is problematic.)

I'm trying to think of completed series that might go down well. It's harder to source currently airing series unless they're long ones...

Do you have Haikyuu? That's quite popular and as a sports series might go down well. I'd recommend Daiya but it has no dub. Haikyuu does.

We have the original Fruits Basket series but need to get the new one.  We have some that only have subs, like Uta No Prince Sama, but I don't know if the ones with English dubs tend to check out better or not.  It may depend on the story.  I'm currently watching Haikyu with the librarians in charge of the Teen and Kids collections so I think convincing them to pick that one up for the Teen section once we get ready to buy things will be easy.  I haven't seen Daiya yet but as much as it's mentioned on this thread, it's probably worth checking into for the library.  :)

I don't know if Daiya has an official US DVD release, actually :/ I didn't think about that, since I know it hasn't got one in the UK.

I'll also throw out there Tiger and Bunny, since I know that one does have DVD releases, in parts, and there are movie DVDs too. If BnHA is popular, T&B might work out too, since it's also superheroish and comedy (actually older than BnHA but the newest season was last summer).

Taffeta has made some great suggestions. :D

I love Daiya, it's one of my absolute favorite animes, but I don't think it's been released on DVD in the US.   I know when I looked before, all of the DVDS I could find for it were sold from Japan.  I wish it more popular here as I think an anime centered around baseball would be a hit in the US and more people would discover how great it is.

My Roommate is a Cat is good.

I have to recommend Yona of the Dawn. :D  It's another favorite of mine. It can be violent at times and when people are wounded or killed there's usually a little blood shown, but it's not what I would consider gory.   Yona does have dragon gods including one that became human.  The dragon gods also give their powers to humans and the first people that were granted those powers had to drink the dragon's blood to get them.

I also like Free.

I got excited for a minute today when I thought I saw a Facebook post confirming another season of Daiya, but it was just a character post for Haruichi's va showcasing his roles.

CR has it in for me at the moment, I swear. Back in Jan I had an issue where it wouldn't work on the firestick. Fixed that. Woot! So I was watching some dramas on netflix for a couple of weeks. Come back to CR today, watch one episode of Horimiya and then boom, the whole thing goes down again. Looks like this is the whole platform down, not just me, but the timing? I haven't used it for 2 weeks, it's last outage was apparently 2 weeks ago...

Gah.

Annoyed -.- As if it isn't bad enough I have to turn off subtitles every episode if I don't want them there on the firestick. It can remember my settings on my other devices, why not the one I use most?

Back on the topic, I also recommend My Roommate is a Cat.

I held off with Yona simply because it's a great anime but only such a tiny % of the overall story.

I was so caught up in relearning all of the things I'd known, but forgotten, like the way Yun treated Yona when they first met, that I forgot for a moment that there's so much left out of the anime.

I was watching Komi earlier and one of the characters called Komi "shisho." It made me smile because I immediate though about Eijun calling Chris that.

I managed to get Horimiya back working again, I admit, I'm guilty of really only watching the first half of the series though, because...
Spoiler
I don't like his hair cut.

Also, though...

Spoiler
Since I read the manga, I feel sad so many scenes got taken out for the anime. It needed to be longe. I don't really like Sengoku, Sakura, Remi or their plotlines in the anime because their characters are truncated. The manga does help with that, there's a great manga scene where Miyamura and Sengoku are coming up with amazingly ridiculous reasons why they shouldn't have to go swimming...

I think the voice cast for the anime are great so it's sad not having those scenes animated.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Blue Period as well (Netflix). It's the second time for me watching this series, but this time I noticed additional details in Yuka's character as well as Yatora's artistic road of discovery.

Started watching Junji Ito's Tales of the Macabre. I like it so far, though a few episodes were just so-so.

I thought I'd checked iTunes before for some of the themes from Yona, but never could find them.  I looked again today and found a few. :D

I finished rewatching Yona. :D   There were a lot of things that I knew happened, but I had forgotten because it had been a while since I watched it.  I still found myself on the edge of my seat during the events in Awa even though I already knew the outcome.

I want to get back to watching Crunchyroll.  Hopefully everything will run smoothly once we get everything fixed with our Internet.  I need to watch the latest Spy Family episodes and also get back to Haikyuu.

I've been wanting to watch The Tale of Princess Kaguya, but haven't yet.

I saw that Spy Family Season 1 part 1 blu ray has a release date in the UK, but not in the US.

It looks like Spy Family part 1 will be released in the US too. :)

Crunchyroll has been announcing a lot of new series or seasons for a lot of animes.  I'm still hoping for news of another season of Daiya. :D

A new trailer has been released for Sailor Moon Eternal/Cosmos.
This one shows  Sailor Galaxia and Chibi Chibi.

Has anyone watched Song of the Sea, the movie based on the legend of the selkies?

Is anyone interested in Suzume?/Suzume no Tojimari?  I found one theater playing both the dubbed and subbed versions near me, but I don't feel like I can stay awake long enough in a dark room to justify paying theater prices right now.

I'm not familiar with that. I don't pay a lot of attention to full length films, I admit. I got put off going to the cinema by the monster that is the 12A (aka bring your kid to the film and let them run riot and ruin the film for strangers).

And they don't tend to air films in Japanese here. In London I did see Tenki no Ko, but that was before Covid. I ahven't been to a cinema since the pandemic.

I have been looking out for any information on Daiya Act II getting another season, but nothing yet. I guess April 2023 isn't going to happen. Maybe autumn? Maybe next year? I can't imagine it won't happen.
