Maybe you thought you didn't like it, but later it grew on you.
Maybe you needed the money and had to part with it.
Maybe you suddenly decided to collect the set and now the one you sold is the only one you still need!
Maybe it gave you "the look" when you put it in the box...
Where is your long lost pony now, and why do you regret selling her?
For me it's my TAF Bonnie Bonnets. When I got her I was only collecting my childhood ponies so I sold her on eBay. Later I decided to collect all the TAF ponies and one in good condition still eludes me!!!
-
i don't sell many of my ponies for that very reason. LOL if i do sell or trade, its because they're doubles.
-
Magenta Satin n Lace     I REALLY needed the money, it was an emergency and family comes first before my ponies... but man it still kicks in every now and again that I will probably never afford her again :(
-
My Baby Cherries Jubilee :yikes:
Sold her here at the arena before christmas, my grandma who passed away a few years ago bought her for me and I should never have parted with her, I'm so so sad. I've never actually regretted selling a pony before...

what if you get another cherries jubilee and offer to trade the seller for the one your grandma got you?
-
I'd never sell unless I have more than one of a pony. I'm not really a collection completer or pick out only a few pony person. I'm more of the type who goes to thrift stores and is like, "hey, an MLP item I don't have yet, I'll get it!". So, I only get rid of ponies I have more than one of. All my doubles are in a box.
-
All of my childhood G1's! I had so many..

All of my childhood G1's! I had so many..
Me too hunny. I GAVE mine away:( I really regret doing that. Right now, I am not interested in selling any of my girls.

aww :( maybe you could ask the buyer if you could buy her back, if they consider selling her on at a later date?
-
I kind of miss this Mexican Moondancer I used to have. She was unusual since she had no forelock. It's not a full-blown regret though, I've been able to dodge that situation so far :drunk:
-
I sold a mint Crumpet I found at Goodwill. I have nightmares, man. I needed the money, but I still regret it.
-
I sold all my original G2's on the arena some time ago, I bought them in Argentina when I was 11 but I stored them away though for nearly 7 years so I thought it'd be no big deal to sell, I regretted it the moment I parted with them, was even worse when I found all the accessories to them a few months later! :p
-
Mine was a custom:

IP, she is beautiful!
I am about to regret selling something, but I know it will be heading to a good home....my MOC Greek orange Firefly. But I won an awesome auction that I need help paying for, so double edge sword I guess :) I really wanted that auction!
-
Baby Whirly Twirl. I got him as a kid, but when I first started collecting again, I'd lost interest in him. Boy, do I regret that now.
-
Bubbles. I sold her a few years ago when I wasn't into ponies... She was minty mint too.
-
Not really selling, but I really regret letting my mother give most of my childhood herd away :( I still have my very favourites so thats the main thing :)
-
This isn't really selling, but I gave away a 25th anniversary pinkie pie with the 3D cutie mark with ribbons at a pony panel. A lot of the people there weren't really into the older gens. A girl won her, but IDK if she really liked or appreciated her. :(
I think if I do that again, I'm just going to buy ponies especially for it and not give them away from my own collection. XD
-
Same here, I didnt sell them. I gave most of my childhood ponies away when I was younger and not into ponies. Of course I do regret it but live and learn. :/
-
Baby princess Sparkle ... I didnt sell her, I gave her away to good will D: (before I knew any better)
-

I'm sure if you ask they'll let you buy her back!!! I've heard similar stories before. Most collectors are really nice about things like this!
-
I regret selling TE Speedy, a little teeny bit... But I know she went to a good home!
<3<3<3
-
I gave away a BB fluttershy. The person never let me know if she arrived or said thanks or anything. Now I miss her and I wish I hadn't done it. Plus the WIP archived thread is locked so I can't go back and find her to message her.
-
I parted with 99% of my childhood collection when I was around 12-13 years old. :( I regret that every time I think of it.
Specifically, though, was a Diamond Dreams that I gave up with the batch that my grandfather bought me when I was little. My biggest pony regret is not hanging onto her...
-

o.O
Oh my gosh that's gotta hurt. :(

My mint G1 plushies.

Panda she's breathtaking! I bet she was so hard to let go of!!! I hope you got loads of cash for her. :(
-
I don't think I have any regrets!
I came *this close* to selling my Dainty Dahlia on account of her eye rub, but then I felt guilty when packaging her and had to back out of the sale.
I should have felt guilty when I traded my Blueberry Baskets (mother of Yo-Yo and hubby to Daddy Sweet Celeb) with another Blueberry Baskets, but I didn't....
-
I've almost never sold ones that I didn't have 2 of, but I have customised quite a few that I've recently found out that I could have saved with a flat iron (or re-hairing) and some sun bleaching =( I feel bad for that. It was before I knew about the online pony community, though. I've learned so many tricks since I've been here!
-
when i was 5 i moved from west virginia to Pennsylvania. I gave a friend my baby surprise. I regretted it soo much! I cried and cried. It was and still is the only G1 i have gotten rid of. I prayed and prayed i'd be able to get another. In fourth grade i convinced my dad to help me buy one online. in the next 3 months I ended up with 5 more! I will never get rid of any baby surprises ever again!!!
-
For me it's also giving away my childhood collection. I do still have a few bits and pieces left, but the Ponies are gone.
Elf
-
I didn't sell them, but I gave them to my cousin.
ALL my Brushie G3's.
((I swear, I'll get back Coconut Grove and '04 sparkle pony Desert Rose!))
-
Nachtlicht ... I needed the money, and I wasn´t very fond of her, but now I am sure I will never be able to afford her again.
Same is true for Icy .... Needed the money .....
-
It is posts like this that make you realise you definitely shouldn't get rid of your ponies! I desperately regret selling my snowflake although she was in poor condition on ebay.... I cried about it. I think I'm ok about it now, I just wish I knew she wasn't being used as a bait or something awful, I just hope she's ok ! x
-
Nightglider. I found her at a fle market when I was first starting to work on custom ponies and venturing int o collectiong, and at the time I was unemployed and I just thought "great, I can make a little profit on this one!" I miss her D:
-
Ahhh....for me not a pony but an accessory [surprise surprise]....back when I started collecting I decided "I didnt want to bother with accessories" so I sold the sweetie clips for Lollipop and Licorice to an Arena member - I sold then for a mere $15each....
Fast forward 6 years and I had to drop nearly 10 times that amount to get them back!!!!! Silly, silly, kitty cat....

ohhh gahh!! my heart sank for that one!!!
and for everyone who is mourning the loss of childhood ponies.... ugh... :cloud:
here are my 2 biggest regrets... i traded them both for my argie sweettooth (shes the pony in my avatar)
I was thinkin, i can totally get the christmas one again, and flutterbye i will have to upgrade anyways...
well so far over a year later, it hasnt happened. the worst is i think value-wise i got the short end of the stick :/
my advice to all:
always do a PC before you trade!

I sold my beautiful childhood Sundance at a garage sale. She was wearing pink legwarmers :(
-
My parents threw out all my childhood G2s when I was about 11, as I'd reached the stage where I thought I was too old for ponies. D:
I've kicked myself many a time over this, I miss them so much. :( I would buy replacements, but it just wouldn't be the same. I particularly miss Princess Crystal & Princess Twinklestar. Plus I had a bunch of awesome playsets, they would have been perfect for displaying my G1 collection now. :<
If only I had a time machine.
-
I regret giving my entire childhood collection to my Neice years ago!!! I never gr them back, she got rid of them!!! A few made it through, ones that weren't with the herd but oh sigh my poor little starry wings!!!
-
Not a MLP regret but I did throw out - yes, threw out - a HUGE bucket of the classic Littlest Pet Shops back when I was in high school. I used to collect them and then grew out of them. This was before the 'new' style with the giant bobble heads came out--and before I knew you could sell old 80's toys online to other collectors!
-
I'm very very lucky to have kept all of my core childhood ponies although I do regret giving away other childhood toys :(
The only pony I miss is my first ever custom 0_0 omg now I make them but keep them for meeee I have trouble letting go lol, this is her:

Some of these stories are making me well up!
I was lucky enough to keep all my small childhood ponies - I almost sold my Bubbles by mistake (my 3rd ever pony!) but fortunately noticed just before I handed her over and sold Dusky a spare instead (not that they wouldn't have happily returned her).
My biggest pony regret is that was getting desperate to pay my rent and I had to sell my MOC Baby Candy I had from new about 10 years ago...I loved that baby so much, and have never been able to win one loose, and never seen another MOC.
To cap it all I then got an email going "do you have another? I'd happily have bid twice what she sold for!".
<sniffle>
Ah well, at I learnt my lesson and got out and took a job, any job, rather than sell my sweet Baby Sapphire et al, although I had decarded her by then. That is my other regret - I put her accessories in a safe place and now I have lost her necklace. derp. Such are the hazards of moving house every year.
-
My story won`t make anyone cry. I just had a Doh moment. So in 2008 I went down to my local thrift shop and found two baby ponies marked takara! I knew nothing about them and of course asked all the pony people online if they were real or fakies. I told them the vinyl was really thick and the paint was perfect on both ponies, and despite that they told me that there were no real takara ponies and they were worth 15-20 bucks. A girl really wanted them and so I sold them both for thirty. At the time i made a profit but I still to this day swear they were the real deal. Here is a picture of them I posted for my BFF`S birthday just before selling:

Moc 4-Speed.
You won't believe it - but I owned him 2 times and I sold him 2 times.
I'm so stupid!!!
Fisrt time I parted with him when we had a lot of other things to pay...
From that moment on he was one of my grails...
Then I bought him with luck again - but I sold him again when I was really need in cash - you all know this situation when you need a quick sale to get a bundle of money soon...
I feel so bad!
And believe me - should I ever get him again - I WOULD NEVER SALE HIM AGAIN!!
-
iv had alot of regrets in the past 13yrs iv been collecting but my most biggest stupid newbee regrets was selling alternative/int' exclusive birthflower morning glory and her MO version as i only wanted my childhood ones, it went up to $100nzd which i thought was amazing at the time but when i decided to collect the birthflower ponies and the alt variants i was so upset to find out the international variant ones go for around $300 :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:  they are too expensive for me to collect and i really want them.
my other annoying regret was tradeing my mint baby glory in a swap cos i thought i had 2 more and realised i only had one bait baby glory :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: iv havent been able to get hold of another one since, now im stuck with one with a hair cut
-
Maybe you needed the money and had to part with it.
I had to sell for money reasons...
My NSS Satin n' Lace and Tux n' Tails - tux even had his bowtie
& my ceramic Skyflyer, who had her hang tag too. Stupidly I sold her on eBay when someone made me a lowball offer that I didn't really think about being low till after the fact - but we had medical bills.
Of course I can't afford to get them now. Maybe one of these days I'll find Satin and Tux at a thrift store or swap meet....
-
Thank you for all the comments people made about my Baby Cherries Jubilee... I did get in touch with the buyer around Christmas to explain and she was so lovely and said she would try and find another one to buy so she could sell me her back... Mine was so close to mint though and I haven't seen another like that as yet... you never know, maybe she will come back to me one day x
-
I luckily have no regrets with trading or selling ponies. Anyone put in the trade box sits there for at least 3 months before going on the online list to the public. So if I have regrets... while they are 'missing' then they get placed back into the herd ^-^
-
I've never sold ponies. I used to trade but I don't regret trading. I thought long and hard about what ponies I was willing to part with.
However, I do regret giving away ponies to my next door neighbor who, at the time, had a little girl around 9 years of age. She's like 12 or 13 now and she came to my niece's 4th birthday party and I asked her Mom how her daughter liked the ponies and she casually told me she hadn't touched the bags I packed them up in. I was sort of mad because there were quite a few early G3's I didn't want to part with but was being overly generous and gave them to a little girl who I thought would love them. I almost thought about asking for them back but in a kind way but decided against it. It seemed wrong even though she hasn't touched them.
-
Maybe when I sold my alt. pose (Cherries Jubilee) Mexican Blossom.
More than regret, it was a: "He's being with me for a long time, and I'm tearing a family..."
But I know he went to an amazing new owner =)
Now I'm tempted about selling a pony but at the same time I don't want to do so =P
-
I almost sold my Peruvian Applejack. I was in tears crying about it, because money was so tight.
I had found someone to buy her, but my fiance told me I shouldn't sell something I am so attached to and "bought" her for me, from myself. So really, she's not mine anymore, she just happens to chill at my place with the rest of my small Applejack herd.

How sweet!
I had to sell my Tornado - I hadn't been working and I really needed the money. I didn't regret it at the time (and I'm glad he went to a collector) but I sort of wish I hadn't had to sell; I haven't been able to afford a mountain boy since. . .
Still hoping to find one at the thrift store someday. . .
-
So far, I've been quite lucky.
I've never sold any pony I have a real attachment too, most of the girls I've sold/traded have been quite baity so I feel better for selling them onto someone who can use them or is able to restore them as they're sort of out of my skill range.
-
About a year ago I was selling a load of bait ponies. I -very nearly- got shot of this guy but I took a look at his adorable face and I had to keep him. Luickily no one had asked about him yet so he got to stay, he's now one of my favourites in my collection. I'm not entirely sure why I like him so much.. But knowing that I nearly lost him makes him all the more special.

I'm very sorry to hear these pony loss stories though :(
-
I almost regret selling my flat foot Snuzzle. Then I just remind myself that she was gray. :P Stomper needs more color.
-
When I was young, my family had to move cross country and my mother packed up almost all of my toys, including ALL of my G1 ponies, and gave them away to another family while I was at school. I was devastated. She didn't even save my FF Minty, which was the 1st pony I got and my favorite. I found a FF Minty on ebay in good shape for a good price and snapped her up and when I opened her up and held her in my hands I cried a little. She is my first G1 again! I'd been given some thrift store find G3s and encouraged by my husband to try to recreate my old herd! Bless him!
-
When I was about 13, I had a whole bunch of ponies that I put out for free at a yard sale. This was before I was really "into" them, so I put them out and of course, they got picked up.
I don't even know who most of them were, but a good portion of them were G1s. I know one was Firefly, and I know there was one of the butterfly wing ones and a so-soft (who I thought had some sort of weird mold issue going on XD ).
I regret it now because now that I've gotten into ponies more, Firefly and the So-Softs are some of the few G1s I would actually seek out to have in my collection.
-
I sold my TAF baby Sugarberry and my Munchy  on ebay because I needed the money. They were both mint too! I really hate that I did that because they are so hard to find. They are sooo Cute too!!

This story almost made me cry! I keep everything my two grans (one passed, one still alive) give/gave me! If I wasn't out of a job now, I'd send you money or start a fund in your ponies honour to help get her back!!!

Agreed!
My story is actually not all me... My first ebay purchase (Chief) was made and I was so happy! Complete with bandanna and everything! About a week later I received a random email from the seller saying she felt she had made a mistake. I didn't mind, as I understand the feeling. She sent me Tex AND a Seashell instead and that made me happy. So, Jo, if you're on this forum, your ponies are still very happy!!!
-
Huge hugs Claro!
-
I had to sell lots I regret cause I needed money : ( I think selling my minty ice crystal was the biggest regret, bright eyes was another

I have a baby CJ for sale at the moment, if the person who bought yours would be interested. She isn't mint though. PM me if you'd like details :-)

aww :( maybe you could ask the buyer if you could buy her back, if they consider selling her on at a later date?
I'm actually the buyer and I am keeping an eye out for a Baby Cherries Jubilee in good condition that's not priced ridiculously high. When I find one, I will sell Willa her original one back at the price that she sold her to me.
Although your idea is good, too. If she finds one first, I'd be more than happy to do it that way as well.
