Help with UK Pony Jewellery Sets please! :)

Okay sorry for the semi junk photo - I had some questions about these Pony Jewellery sets

First of all, they came with one of each shape barrette - correct? So I know I'm missing like all the butterfly shaped ones... etc.

But I wanted to know - was there certain colored ones that came with the certain specific boxes? Like the plain blue box vs the pearly pink one? Or was it just completely random?

If it wasn't random - where do my barrettes here belong?!

It was a little hit and miss. There were 4 boxes in total but I have seen all 4 of them MOC with a variety of different combinations of barrette colours. Unfortunately just as you think you have a pattern another set turns up to throw a wobbly for you

So my best would be to start by trying to get all the different colors and varieties of barrettes and then see how many "other colors" I'd need to round out the boxes? (Does that make sense?)

As far as I know, there were 4 different boxes:
Pink regular finish
Pink pearly finish
Blue regular finish
Blue pearly finish

There were 6 types of barrettes:
Bowtie
Pony
Heart with pony head
Flower
Shooting star
Butterfly

Each of the 6 barrettes came in 3 different base colors:
Pink
Blue
Yellow

So there are a possible 18 barrettes(unless I'm forgetting something).

I have seen a lot of sets, and as far as I know they just came with one of each type, and the colors were more or less random.  It's rather hard to tell since most of these are found loose now, and sets tend to get mixed up together.  I could be wrong about them being random.  There might be a pattern, but I don't think I've ever seen two identical MOC sets.

Yes that is pretty much what you have to do.

There were 4 releases, each one of which came with 6 barrettes [one of each type]. So there were 18 unique barrettes but if you have 4 boxes with their requisite 6 barrettes each you end up with 24 barrettes so there is going to be some duplication. And even if you had 4 original sets - unique boxes with their own barrettes - you may not even manage to get all 18 unique ones, you may get more than just 6 duplicates. I tracked down the 18 unique ones and then made up a 4th set with repeat barrettes - that worked for me

Thank you guys so much! As always, I appreciate all this new knowledge! I had one of the barrettes (the heart with a green pony head) with me for like...15 years now. I had no idea WHERE it came from or what it was, and then I finally realized a few years ago that it was from these types of sets, so I've gotten myself 3 of the boxes (need the blue pearly one) and some barrettes but I have a feeling tracking down the others will be MUCH easier said than done.

Were these popular in stores? Like, are they relatively common over the pond thaarrr??

This is my jewellery box, I wondered whether it was normal to have 2 of one shape but I can see from the packaging it should definitely be one of each! So I'm missing either a pink or a blue flower
