So how do I sunfade without sun?
« on: October 17, 2013, 04:42:48 AM »
So... it's fall here. Sun-time is waning and I have some ponies that require some serious, and SOLID sun-fading. My estimate is that my one gal needs a solid year of hard sun to fade her out, but she's come along way so far in the 4-5 months I had in summer fading her.

But... the :sunny: is gone... and weakening.

So - how do I sunfade in the winter? Can I sunfade under a black-light, or some sort of UV bulb like for plants? Has anyone done this? I have SUPER slow fading time when I try to fade through my windows... so... any artificial way I can sunfade?

Thanks!

Actual dear Sunshine, the sun is stronger in the winter. The sun is closer to the earth at this time so you should still be able to use it to fade ponies. The issue is how sunny it is, lol which I can totally understand. Clouds really get in the way (though the sun does make it through just not as much).

Basically it should still work out. Might take a little longer if it's cloudy more than sunny though!

Yes I guess I'm more like "it's been cloudy too much" more than anything - lol  - and of course, it's much wetter in the winter, so, even a baggie makes me worry if they'll truly be able to deal with the elements since I'm not always around to grab them when it starts to rain or (in a few months, potentially) snow... I've been trying to find a way to sunfade 24/7/365 indoors. Would make things much easier and faster!

Car dashboard. I have excellent results that way, heh.

Not a bad idea! :cheer: That might work, haha. I might get some strange looks but, heck, it's worth it!

Strange looks are a fact of life, haha. I regularly have foil-wrapped ponies baking on the dashboard of my truck. It tends to get strong/more direct sun than a window in your house since you don't have to worry as much about the angle of the sun, but it's safe from the elements.

The windows do block some UV light though, right? I'm sure the time spent in the light would cancel out the "reduced UV power" because it could be outside all the time. Unfortunately I only have a front dashboard in both my trucks, lol so they'd have to ride up front all the time. I'm sure people would probably just think I had an old burrito lying up there! :lmao:

Yup, mine are all on the front dash >.> Nothing wrong with that, haha. It's not as effective as taking them outside in direct sun, but it's just such a convenient place to put them.

I think I'm going to try throwing some of my ponies on my dash too! I didn't want to in the summer because it was so hot, but now that it's cooler I should be good.

I do wish there was a way to sunfade without the sun though XD

this reminds me that I have a little one who needs some dash time. She just has pink marks though, I've had good luck with those fading fast.

I've sunfaded in the winter. No car window even, just in a place where it would still get full sun. Unless you're at a really high latitude, I'd expect it to work at least somewhat.

Dont worry - you can still sunfade in the windows at home all year round  if you dont want to risk the car dash board :P    You dont need actual sun - just natural daylight (trust me - I'm in the UK and apart from a decent heatwave this year we've had hardly any sun in ages!)  I still sunfade ponies in the winter.
It might take a bit longer if you have a lot of cloudy  or rainy days, but you can still do it  :relaxed:

Yep I use a dashboard as well.  :)  But in the winter, I just switch the windows the ponies fade in, and keep at it!
