Removing Brown 'Smooze'?
« on: June 25, 2013, 09:18:54 PM »
I don't have a photo - so, I'll do my best to describe, and update with one soon...

But I got a TERRIBLE Tuneful in the mail... (working the details out with the seller on how to fix it), but got the green light to give her my all in cleaning her up...

Her biggest issue? What looks like Brown Smooze all over her NDS side. It's not spots - like cancer... it's all over, especially like her lower belly into her legs on NDS side.

I've tried Magic Eraser and Acetone so far... (and she was/is ridiculously rusty inside when I opened her, like... disgusting and wet and rusty...) and I just have made no progress. Is there any salvation for my poor Tuneful? Any suggestions on what I can do? Oxyclean Boil bath? Toothpaste scrub? Anything!!

Thanks!

Is it like the type of marbling that you typically see on seaponies? As far as I know there is no cure for that :/

Though, there was no cure for Pindot 'till recently too, so who knows what the future will hold.

Love to see pics of her!

I'm not sure of a cure for smooze, but if you need help with her rusty inside, I find lemon juice and table salt mixed into a paste to really help shift away the worst rust. You also don't have to worry about harsh chemical residues. And it smells a bit nicer than using vinegar which would be stronger. Let the affected areas soak for ten minutes or so in the paste and then start scrubbing gently. I repeat that about three times.

It -almost- looks like the stuff the sea ponies get. I figured there was probably no saving her. Once I get her head back on and tail de-rusted, I'll take a photo and just upload it for kicks.

Sad... She's so pretty on her DS side, hardly any flaws... perhaps she sat with water in her laying on her NDS side and that could potentially explain why it's only on that side of her?

Oh that sounds a shame :(

Have you tried a scrub with a baking soda paste or even a soak in oxy?

The key is whether its in or on the plastic: if the latter it should be moveable with time and elbow grease; if its in the plastic then like with the sea ponies there is not much you can do.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

My best guess is it's IN there. I boiled her, scrubbed her, to no avail today...

Ah well. You win some, you lose some, hehe. She's currently getting her hair conditioned - at least I was able to get the disgusting rust out of her (liquid rust, bleh!) so she's clean on the inside, and won't be able to rust again... :)
