Title: CONFIRMED SCAM! Member Scamming Through Ebay!
Post by: Stormy31685 on January 24, 2014, 06:14:39 PM
Hi all,

I normally would not post anything like this, but I have been receiving messages through eBay's messaging system from a member asking me to severely discount items for a 7 year old with cancer.  Normally, I would feel bad and offer to either send money or comply with the discount request, but the messages seemed odd.  Here was the first message I received:

Quote
Hello, would you be willing to drop the price? I'm collecting G1 ponies for a 7 year old cancer patient and these twins are 2 of 17 she wants...I am going to donate them to her but I am on a tight budget. I can only do around $10 plus shipping. If not it's ok, I'll try to find them somewhere else. Thanks-Mary-

- mary-bonne

This was on a $38 listing - before shipping.  I replied:

Quote
Hi Mary!

That is so sweet! I cannot do that on these though, because I have sold them already, but I might have something else I can help with. Do you have a list? Thanks!

Here was her reply and list:

Quote
Yes this is her list:

1. Twin baby ponies
2. Twin teeny ponies
3. Boy pony chief
4. Baby pony tappy
5. Baby pony rainribbon
6. Baby pony bright bow
7. Flying baby pony whirly
8. Baby pony apple jack
9. Baby pony nightcap
10. Any art pony
11. Any Dj pon3 pony
12. Baby pony blossom
13. Any plush pony
14. Baby pony snippy
15. Baby pony northstar
16. Mommy, daddy and baby family
17. Baby pony cuddles

I only have about $60 to spend to get all of these for her, it's a challenge lol I can't find some of these anywhere but I'm not giving up on her. She also had a list of Breyer horses but I know I can't afford those lol. If you do have any of these please let me know, it would be great if I could buy them all at once so they get here the same day...thanks! God bless.

-Mary-

Not that some of the items on the list would have been a stretch to get her, but my first red flag for suspicion was the value of some of these ponies.  Not that there have not been hardcore collectors that are young, but in this generation, I found it a little surprising.

Anyhow, I did not reply, because I did not know how to.

Has anyone else heard a similar story from this member?  If there is validity to it, please let me know.  If not, then everyone be aware.

Thanks!

Although I would never wish for anyone to be suffering from cancer, I certainly hope this lady isn't making up a story, that would just be plain wrong, especially something so sad that really tugs on the heartstrings. I hope someone else can come forward and provide more clarification.

Unfortunately, in all my years bartering on the internet I just don't believe in sad stories anymore. I've seen so many people fake illnesses and deaths to take advantage of others or try to get discounts.

If it were me, I wouldn't buy it for a second. Ebay and other selling sites are full of scammers with sob stories to try and save money. I would just offer condolences and refuse to discount.

Yeah no.  Smells like an absolute scam.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but she's probably trying to scam you.  But on the chance that it's true, maybe pick something that's already cheap to sell her at a discount.  That way you can do a good deed if she's telling the truth, and protect yourself from being badly scammed if she's not, and it won't be too much skin off your back either way.

I completely agree with Corona. Offer condolences and refuse to discount.

I've been selling on eBay for over 13+ years and have seen a huge amount of those messages over that time. When you get three different eBay members all on the same week with sob stories, it just gets ridiculous. My father actually has prostate cancer, but I don't go around asking for discounts for any items I buy for him.

Unfortunately there are dishonest people out there looking to manipulate sellers and save a buck.

What doesn't add up with this one is - why is a 7 year old (born in 2006-2007, during G3) interested in G1 ponies from the 1980s? Growing up, they would have had G3's/Core 7 to play with and little to no exposure to G1 or G2. Seven year olds don't know who Baby Rainribbon or Chief are. If they hear Gusty's voice from the 80s cartoon, they think Bart Simpson...

Just my two cents. Good luck! :)

Seconding the general consensus, this is awfully weird. :x Out of curiosity, about how much would that list be worth in total?

I'm with everyone else - that's an awfully pricy list for a young kid..

Reeks of a possible scam

I agree completely with you Coro, took the words right out of my mouth. There is no way to prove if she is lying or not, don't take any chances. You wouldn't give the PIN to your debit/credit card to a stranger on the street would you?

I agree that it seems a bit fishy... sad that someone may be potentially using a story about a child with cancer to get a deal on some toys...
Title: Re: Possible Member Scamming Through Ebay...?
Post by: Teddy on January 25, 2014, 12:29:06 AM
Yep, very fishy to me as well. I would just reply that, unfortunately, you don't have any of the other ponies on her list and move on. She can try her little scam on someone else. That is pretty low to use cancer and children like that. >.<
Title: Re: Possible Member Scamming Through Ebay...?
Post by: Gingerbread on January 25, 2014, 03:11:19 AM
Yes, kids don't know who those ponies are! You could always ask for the name of the hospital where the child is being treated and say you will donate some ponies there? I've donated fakies and G3s before and children that young don't care/don't know the difference, they are happy with them just being ponies! If she's telling the truth she will bombard you with info, if not she will turn elusive, guaranteed.

Stories like that always send up red flags for me too :(  I dont usually buy it TBH -  especially when there is a big discount involved and a sad story to go with it. I sincerely hope there is not really a 7 year old with cancer - it does seem highly unlikely that someone so young would have a want list like that

Still...  its good to post here and see if others have had a similar experience - that way we can more easily work out if its really a scam  ;)

Well, I have to chime in and say that this person has been sending me messages through eBay as well. She tried to get me to give her "a deal" on a bunch of ponies that she wanted to buy. Honestly, I was a little confused by her message, so when I responded and questioned what she wanted, she backpedaled a little bit and said she just wanted to know how much shipping costs would be for the ponies she listed. She made no mention of a little girl with cancer.

This was her list of ponies she was interested in:

Jebber
Jangles
Starbow
Dangles
Cuddles
Snookums
Cotton Candy
Sweet Stuff

This list doesn't completely match the list of ponies she sent you, Stormy... I suppose it's possible that she is a collector, and wants ponies for herself in addition to ponies for the little girl, but that seems like kind of a stretch to me!

Now I'm tempted to block her from bidding. But she did buy something from me previously and everything was fine, so... I just don't know.

*shakes head*

This definitely smells of scam, especially since she's contacted more than one person with different lists. It reminds me of the woman from this area who faked cancer to get money out of people. She actually held fund-raisers. It made national news: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/22/kimberlie-gustwiller-ohio-faked-cancer_n_3631627.html

Wow, that would be a tough call.. what if you could find ones that were in playable condition? My daughter is 9. She loves the G1 the best too, because she likes the way they look. I let her look at all the ponies on Strawberry reef and make a list, so believe me she picked a few in the "fat chance" category lol,, Like the mommy and baby pony she picked out! On the other hand, we both like ponies that have been loved and we can actively play with... so that brings quite a few of them down in price substantially. If your gut says to give her a shot, I would go with playable ponies.. I don't really think the fact that she didn't say anything to both members about the little girl means very much.. it could simply mean that she was not trying to use it as a bargaining tool, and she just felt like reaching out to you. Sometimes people do that. Don't get me wrong, I am the person who once took a teenager home from the hotel because he was stranded and broke, and gave him a ride to Michigan.. so I tend to do wild things like that lol. On the other hand, I am a firm believer in "meeting angels unaware.."   :)

I have to say that it is possible for a 7 year old to know about g1 ponies. I think it depends on the people they around them and if they have ever had G1s. Both of my daughters have G1s and my 5 year old asked to have a Chief for Christmas this year. She did not really know his name, she just knew what he looked like. She told me she wanted the boy Firefighter, and since I know g1 I knew who she meant. My youngest wanted the boy Pirate Pony who is Barnacle.

BUT...there are scammers out there. You are not obligated to offer anything. If you want, and you have a lower priced one that you could part with for cheap, you can offer her that.

I think it is possible the ponies were wanted as a good deal/scam, but I notice many of the ones on that list are types more than pony names.  Maybe if you feel like messaging this person, point them toward the cheaper sets of newborn twins and so on?  While none of the ponies seem to be really cheap ones, they also aren't expensive ones like I'm used to seeing scammers go after.  No Mimic, no mail orders, not even the more expensive boys, really!

If i were to recieve this email I think I would send it to eBay and let them deal with it. There are better ways to get ponies for children in bad situations, and messaging random people on eBay really isn't one of them. Even if it is for a child with cancer it's an unfair and emotionally blackmailing way in which to do it.

I've had a break from selling over Christmas and New Year so haven't noticed anything fishy myself but this defintiely doesn't sound right. I doubt I'll be contacted if they're wanting cheap and cheerful prices as I'm in the UK and shipping would negate that but will keep an eye out for this when my listings go back up later this week. Thanks for the heads up.

That is so incredibly sad. Has she been reported to eBay?
The worst part of this, I think, is that it lends less credulity to people who are actually aflicted with illness or ill family members. Taking advantage of someone's good nature and sympathetic tendancies should be punished not just by eBay but by law. Wish there were a way to file fraud chrges against her. What a creep!

I had a feeling it was a scam. If it was real, I would think the aunt would be happy to get ANY ponies and not specific and would be asking at church and in the community and NOT on eBay. Some people will sink very low apparently to get what they want.

Sadly, it's too the point that I'd want a copy of the hospital bill and talk to the child's doctor over the phone before I even *started* believing these stories.  Most parents who are dealing with ill children are NOT focused on Ebay and collecting toys for the kids, they're focusing on either getting the child well, and in (sadly) terminally ill cases, looking at end-of-life care.

It makes me so sick when people pull this crap.

Does eBay have a rule against block evaders? Afiak most other sites do. If they do I'd report them for scamming and block evading.

I've just recently messaged a seller I'd been blocked by, just to find out why... turned out I'd done a follow-up feedback saying that she didn't leave feedback (the honest truth, my initial feedback was +, plus it was after several polite messages and a considerable amount of time) - so instead of leaving feedback, she blocked me, whatever.

So you can message (and apparently see) members who you've been blocked by - I just got a message saying that 'this seller is not accepting bids from you at this time' when I tried to place a bid. I certainly didn't have to do anything to message them, I could see all of their info and just went about it the normal way. It wan't a purposeful 'evasion' at all in my case.

I would recommend just avoiding any kind of contact: buying or selling. She latches on to any kind of kindness or communication you offer. Avoidance is best. That's my two cents from personal experience.

Blocked, Thank you all for your hard work investigating this and letting us know ;)

UPDATE.....I just realized that this girl did buy a pony from me recently on Jan 23rd! I remember her now because she had hustled me so hard on best offers that I actually cracked up laughing instead of getting irritated and countered her back saying "Oh come on.....this is the lowest I will go..." She was literally countering me back .25 cheaper than my offer....wth lol...I just though wow ok this one is VERY frugal ;) Now I see that she is so frugal that she is actually willing to lie about helping children with cancer!!!MAKES ME SICK!

I think the woman is probably mentally ill.  Just a hunch.

I think you are right ;) LOL Definitely a good one to stay away from if you are selling or buying apparently

Thanks for your time!

I can understand wanting to clinch a deal, but why drag in a case of cancer? My dearest aunt passed from cancer not long ago, and this just makes me sick. Something that tragic and upsetting should not be this easily used an an excuse to, what? Get a better deal on a pony? Honestly, this kind of behaviour is disgusting.

eBay is like her personal "Let's Make A Deal" game. :P I would tell her that if she wants my ponies, start saving her money and come back when she can afford to buy from me. (Of course that wouldn't happen since I don't sell, but I would say my prices are firm and then block her.)

Yeah i did... I don't think it was the person your tlking about on ebay. She asked me to split 2 babies up i had listed together i did no problem for me. And she brought purple valentine off me as well (well her bf did for valentines day). She did ask for a cheeky discount yes but people do do this its haggling i don't like it mum is used to it (doesn't like it either though). Did give her a small discount wasn't much though. She seemed nice enough to me very friendly.
So i don't think she is a problem tbh :) doesn't sound like the ebay person

Yes, there's such a thing as haggling, but most people - buyers and sellers alike - see eBay and Etsy as any other real world shop:  unless it says you can make the seller an offer, haggling is a bit frowned upon and you pay the price listed.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything.. but throwing in my ten cents...
I did decide to bid on an auction of hers, and it went very good. I was very pleased with my lot etc. She emailed and asked if I had a few specific ponies for sale, I said I did have one she wanted, told her the price, listed it on ebay as a private auction and sold it to her. Again, no problems. I have since dealt with her a few other times, we have traded and sold each other ponies.
We did get into a conversation about the arena, just as in- where do you get pony info.. - and she volunteered her entire side of the story. She is a forward person, and I think that makes her come off a bit..uh.. abrasive? to some people, but I truly do not think she tries to do anything wrong, and I get a chuckle out of her. She definitely is not shy and likes to haggle when she can, but has no problem if you tell her you don't like to (it was a conversation). I have been on eBay a long, long, time and have had plenty of people ask for discounts and deals etc, so it really does not ruffle my feathers, sometimes I say yes, sometimes I say no, just depends.

She also told me about her niece., who is the daughter of her stepsister, I am not comfortable passing on her information without her consent, but I do think she should be given a chance by those who are willing. I will say their are ponies for her niece and ponies for her, and I do not believe she shares the story with people she is buying for herself from.

*This in no way is intended to be an argument or accusation, I am a person who has a rare and hard to control gift to see both sides of stories in their entirety, and I hate to see anyone miss out in life over misunderstandings or misconceptions. Life is just plain too short. I think we miss too much in life by not taking or giving chances sometimes, and I wanted to find out for myself.
I am very sorry that some people had a difficult time with her, but I think a lot of it was misunderstood- not that asking to end the auctions early was not wrong, but if each thing is looked at separately it changes things a bit too.

Off my box now. I love the arena. Just have to put my voice in once in a while too.  :P

Cass you can talk to any Mod here, especially the TS Mods who have been following this scheme from the get go. If anyone choses to do business with her, it is your decision but proceed with caution. I am sorry I have been on eBay a very long time also and I know a bunch of crap when I see it. All you have to do is look at her ended listings as a buyer compared to her listings she has for sale. It should pretty much sum up her "sick niece" shenanigans.

I can send a PM, I am not exactly comfortable asking someone "hey what's your side" if it is a touchy subject already though.. as I said, technopone volunteered her side to me in a conversation, it was not brought out by me. I usually try to stay out of things as much possible, but I also do not stand by well if I feel someone is losing out. To clarify- I am not saying that she should not be banned from the arena if she violated rules etc, I am just saying that I think the *Avoid* seems like an overkill. I will shoot a pm to Kiwi.

I am going to point out again, she is not an arena member. Therefore she did not break any rules here because she was never her to begin with.

Ok I can understand that, but in the meantime it's been my inbox filling up.

Maybe in future it's best to stay away from these heavy-topic threads until you are feeling up to them. It's things like this that confuse members even more than an already complicated situation needs.

This is why we always say it's best to leave things to the mods unless you are directly involved.

I have been directly involved. I have talked to Loa about this. I made a mistake with names and I truly apologize but that does not give you the right to treat me like a child. So why not leave well enough alone?

But in the future I will do my best not to mix up names of admins on the Arena. I am really sorry you got extra messages on my behalf.

Title: Re: CONFIRMED SCAM! Member Scamming Through Ebay!
Post by: G1love on April 28, 2014, 06:11:16 AM
It seems to me there's no real evidence that this person is scamming...the person that started this thread seemed to just be asking if anyone else got a message from her. Then after that everyone just assumed she was bad. Then I read the post cassstorm wrote (which is the only person who seems to be personally involved with her and knows her) she pretty much summed it up. The confirmed "scammer's" "niece" is her step-sister's daughter, which would still be family (after "confirming" she has no nieces), then people complaining about her buying ponies then selling them, I've seen the valentine pony on etsy they're talking about and she has one for sale on eBay, for less than half of what it was on etsy...I don't think it's the same one though after studying the pictures...but I do the same thing, I buy lots of ponies and try to make money off the ones I don't want or need for my collection. There was no posts about her pestering people over and over, she simply asked for a discount and told her reason why...what's wrong with that? There's no complaints about her bugging after someone tells her no. Then cass mentioned the seller collected herself also, so that probably explains the people who sold stuff to her but didn't get asked to discount. If this is the "whole story" it doesn't seem bad to me, just misunderstood. Has anyone other than cassstorm actually personally talked to this technopone? If not then it doesn't really seem very fair to just assume she is a scammer.  Cassstorm is one of the few on this sellers side but then the admins jumped all over it saying that there's more to the story, so that is why I asked what the rest of the story is (after I read all of this thread) because if I'm buying from this seller (haven't had a problem yet) and she really is as bad or worse than people are assuming (with evidence) then I would like to know, along with others. Thanks!

Thanks!

I am guessing the real reason that you are really interested in knowing, is because you are her? Nice try though  ;)

I have talked to her. And she lied to me about trying to talk to the mods.

I sent her a message and she said she emailed an admin and mentioned all of the rude things people said about her and after that she was unable to view the page, that tells me one of them did get it and simply ignored her...and made it where she couldn't view the thread anymore. That seems pretty unfair to me, if I were an admin I would let her be able to post on here and defend herself but that's my opinion...

Really what transaction? Did I scam this person? Is asking a discount for an item a crime? No. If I did admit I was this person I would probably get banned again, without getting the truth about the "whole story" and saying that I lied when people on here lied too. But hey, all I want to do is buy some ponies....I'm such an awful person for wanting ponies, wether it's for me or someone else.

I'm confused about your intentions. You state in your intro post that you are technopon-e on ebay, and yet post all of the above and try to lie about that? You didn't need to be a mod to figure that one out.

Trader support mods try to keep everything on one thread. The mods ALWAYS delete/merge multiple threads to avoid confusion, it isn't about you, it's what they do for everyone. It looks like yours got deleted, that happens sometimes. You weren't a victim here.

Just a tip - emotional blackmail is bad. *Most* of the population has had a close friend or relative affected by cancer, it's something guaranteed to get a reaction, be that a positive or a negative one. If it were me, I'd have left out that I were buying for someone else altogether, just made an offer and been done with it - but low-balling is rude, regardless of the reason, and you were going to get a reputation in the community regardless. Now you've been labelled a scammer, a low-baller and a liar to boot, and that could have been avoided by following ebay's ToS - no-one minded when you were being tough with the best offer function, or PM'ing lists of wanted ponies, but once you started dropping in offers on running auctions, and mentioning your niece (emotional blackmail), things went south, fast. You see? Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse, and you've learnt that the hard way.

I wish you the best in your future transactions, however I'm sorry to say I have you on my block list - I'm none too fond of liars, and that fact was proven with my own eyes.

I wanted to bring something to everyone's attention. I have also PMed a Mod and told them as well. Technopon-e has a potential scam currently up in her auctions. Search eBay for:

Pic #1 My Little Pony G1 Twinkle Eye Mimic Mint On Card Beautiful!

This is a stolen photo she has made into a print and is selling under a title that does not recognize it as such. The bids have already reached $71.00. This is not my photo but if it is yours or you know who it belongs to, please let them know so they can report the listing. I'd hate for anyone to bid and win and have to deal with her again.

Something similar happened with a PS4, that person ended up getting their money back. Hopefully whoever wins this will either realize what is going on with the listing before paying or will file a case and get their money back. I went ahead and reported it for misleading title. Hopefully ebay will take it down.

This is just more examples of her scamming behavior. Like others have said people really need to read auctions before bidding. I recently had that problem on one of my auctions. They bid and a day later wanted to retract their bid because they finally read the auction that the item had a broken part. Well why do you think I'm selling it so cheap?

Right? Ugh. If you were trying to win favor in the pony community and convince people you were a decent person, this was not the way to do it. Printing off a picture you found on the internet and have no right to and selling it on ebay? Ugh.

Good point and I am not even sure what she is doing is legal? I sure wouldn't think so since she is trying to make a profit off of somebody else's picture she found on the internet and printed.

It is absolutely not legal, and ebay doesn't stand for that. Which is why I hope the owner is able to report it quickly.

I don't think the owner has to report it as long as eBay is shown that it was stolen from another website and it's obviously a reproduction. I think that's enough to convince them to take it down.

I'm sorry, I rarely post on this particular board - I just read/lurk - but I just HAVE to say...the behavior by this individual can best be summed up as one word:  PATHETIC.

If this individual finds that word hard to swallow, perhaps she needs to take a long, hard look at her actions.  From making up a story about "her niece," to trying to act like she wasn't who she said she was, to modifying her intro post for whatever shady reason today, and now stealing a picture and trying to sell it in severely ILL light to people... come on, now.  Grow up.

I'm happy that the community is putting together the pieces before further scams can play out.  Sigh.  Sad.

As soon as I started reading that first post of hers I knew it was her...what a horrible person! I can't believe those poor people on eBay thinking they'll get Mimic MOC...her headline is completely misleading even if her description vaguely lets you know it's a pic (later down on the page) She should announce in big, bold letters that it's just a photo...THAT'S what someone with any kind of a conscience would do. The woman is scum, and lying about her being someone else is not exactly endearing her to anyone who might want to listen to her side of the story! I know I've made my mind up about the situation *BANNED* from my sales!

Oh, has she been banned from here now? I can only see negative repercussions if she stays, but I guess it's up to the mods...do the actions of people outside the arena affect their ability to be a member, or is it just based on your actions here?

Sadly, it's too the point that I'd want a copy of the hospital bill and talk to the child's doctor over the phone before I even *started* believing these stories.  Most parents who are dealing with ill children are NOT focused on Ebay and collecting toys for the kids, they're focusing on either getting the child well, and in (sadly) terminally ill cases, looking at end-of-life care.

It makes me so sick when people pull this crap.

When my son was in the hospital in Salt Lake City, we weren't worried about toys for him, etc. We were worried if he'd make it the next day...he passed away in 2008, but it sickens me that people will use their child's illness to get freebee's, pity, etc. If I can't afford it, I just don't buy it =\

This really disheartens me :(

They must not understand what some families go through who have children with terminal illnesses :(

Dont worry TSU , this isnt a witch hunt  .   We are only trying to protect the community .
This is a genuinely shady person who has shown herself to be a liar (regardless of the sick neice story, she still managed to join here supposedly as someone else, pretending to be someone else to defend this persons behaviour, and she stole a picture from Stormy (the OP) and tried to sell on ebay in a misleading auction). This person *is* a known scammer (regardless of the cancer story or not). We dont just throw out accusations and we  dont ban people or delete what they said for no reason either.
I'm thinking that the acution was probably reported by Stormy herself and ebay pulled it because of stolen pictures. I dont know for sure, but I do think that the auction went down due to someone reporting her rather than her having a sudden attack of conscience  :awake:

A witch hunt would be like hunting someone down because you don't agree with them. Look at Joan of Arc for example. She did nothing wrong. This person however has scammed people numerous times, offensively lied about her niece having cancer or something to get ponies cheaper. That is just not right at all. Scamming is a crime, and people that commit the crime need to be punished. If anything, reporting the IP address to the authorities will be helping the community.  :iconclap:

Sounds to me like this is your standard cry for attention from a person who never grew up and learned how to act like the adult she is supposed to be.

First she wants everyone to pity her with sob stories of ill relatives and so she can get discounts on ponies, and she joins here but pretends to be someone else to defend herself when her shady actions are brought to light. Then when we don't buy it, she runs off to ebay to make a fake auction (probably knowing people here would spot it and post more about her in this thread). These are all the childish things immature people on the internet do when they want attention.

Unfortunately a long thread like this is just giving in to her need to feel important and have everyone talk about her, but the alternative is that people won't know what she's up to.

What she doesn't understand is that the internet is not always as anonymous as it appears to be (for example the Mods here can monitor your IP address and tell that you are the same person), plus through ebay some personal information is available as well. So the impressions she gives people here and the bridges she burns are going to stick with her in the future.

Scammers always think they can just change their online name and have a fresh start, but there's always people like the ones in this community who monitor for scammers and warn other people.

My guess is why it was taken down is because she lied about a lot of things and because the photo was probably something got from the internet and posted here without permissions. She was asked numerous times to pm a mod to tell her story and she refused. She had many opportunities to come clean and turn things around and she didn't want to. She just wanted to start drama.

She was asked numerous times to pm a mod to tell her story and she refused.

Well, in the message she posted she insisted that she had contacted a mod. And she did apparently send a message to someone and she copied and pasted the message into that post. But the person she says she contacted was an admin at the MLPTP, not here. So uh, that might make a difference

Just.... Wow....
If she really is lieing about her neice having cancer that makes me sick. I lost my Mother this month to cancer and don't really have any respect for people who lie about that. Instead of trying to get discounted ponies I would have donated that money to a cancer facility to help fund research but that is just me.

Trying to sell a printed off picture that isn't hers is just shady.

I have sold to this person. It was a fairly large pony lot on Ebay. She did PM me before the auctions ended to see if I would include some other ponies I was auctioning off at the time if she won. I declined and she was respectful of that.  I had no problems selling to her though and it went smoothly.

Okay editing to add..
After looking over that list on the front page I am pretty sure some of those baby ponies she wants for her niece were in that lot I sold to her and that was back in January. I think she resold that whole lot in smaller lots. I remember seeing them in my ebay feed occasionally. Which is odd if she wanted those for her niece.

The admin said she never contacted her. The admin told me to give her her email address and the admin never got an email.

I for one don't believe that she is purchasing ponies for a sick niece. My father has terminal cancer and it would never occur to me to use his health as a reason for strangers to sell me stuff cheaper. I just don't think that's how people handle situations like this, and let's face it everything is pointing to the fact that technopone is flipping the ponies she's buying up. Which is making me sick to my stomach. I do not know how she sleeps at night, using this serious illness that affect so many families in this way. I just don't have words.

Goodness, that's all sorts of mixed up then. So she claims to have contacted the MLPTP staff, but never did, and also claims that she has contacted the arena staff and used her (unsent or at least unreceived) e-mail to the MLPTP as proof of that?

Yes. And I had told her when she was contacting me on eBay that MBJ had not received her email. And that she could pm any mod on the arena at any time. But she chose not to.  So I just gave up on her. She obviously did not want to contact anyone just wanted someone to feel sorry for her.

Um, wasn't there a scammer a LONG time ago who sold a picture of a pony the same way?  Any known connection?

I don't know, but I've seen the "I'm selling a picture of the item, not the item!" scam several times on ebay and Etsy. It's not a unique idea. I think last time I heard about it, someone was auctioning a picture of an xbox or something.

Apparently she has a couple of eBay names and ponts of access to use them. I think a few of her names are mentioned earier in the thread, but it won't stop her from cooking up a new one or using one that's been dormant a while :/

I believe she uses the same one but changes it back and forth. She also goes as Mary (edited for personal reasons). Which is either her name or close to it.

While I understand everyone's confusion and frustration here, the Mod Team has handled the situation. There is no reason to question our decisions or ask for information leading to our decision.  We do not make decisions in haste, nor ban people without probable cause. We also do not always let our resources be known on how we "figure" someone out, it would defeat the purpose.

We also do not allow first and last names to be listed for any reason, please remember this. Thank you!

That MaryB---- name was what she had used previously as her eBay user name. That is why I posted it.

I honestly don't know whether or not if that's her real name. She told me she stopped using it because it was close to her real name.

Edit: Looking at the list the ebay name I mentioned was not her personal name. But it was close and she had used it previously.

The one that originally sent a picture of a pony was Lexi - and she was QUITE a number - right up there with this gal, techno.  *rolls eyes*

Wow, this is so aweful  is so terrible when people lie about health problems to get things or use them to take advantage

Is like the issue in the Disney Parks, where people were faking  just to skip wait lines,  then people who do have real problems later have a hard time  because of the fakers rude  behaviours or them taking things first (like a place in a bus or wheelchair parkings)

Merciful heavens, my head is officially spinning. I... I can't comprehend how someone can do things like this. I lost my grandfather to emphasema, the pain was unbearable. Even now, when I see someone smoking I want to throw a bucket of water in their face and tell them the suffering he went through.... to lie about a child suffering that way just to con someone... it's hideous! And it's not that she's haggling.... she's been trying to out-and-out cheat people, offering disgustingly low prices and it's wrong. I just can't understand why people do this...it half makes me sick to my stomach, half want to just cry.

I wanted to bring to attention she does have some ponies on eBay right now. I contacted her without even realizing it to ask about the condition of a pony only to realize it was this technopon-e... so, be aware that there is at least one decent looking group of ponies for auction...

I don't know if that's something that people care about, I just wanted to let people know because I... almost missed it myself...

Apologies for randomly appearing while I seldomly post around these parts, but I read about the Mimic picture scam on Tumblr, and I thought that was a terrible thing to do. Now I know the whole story it's even more sickening. Just... I don't understand why people would stoop so low.

Woooah. This thread is one for the history books! Wow.. I hope no one has to deal with her again. Cripes.
I saw the Mimic picture through the UK mlpfans facebook page, but I had no clue it was the same person!

Edit: ooh, my 2000 post!
