What Are Your Favourite Uplifting/Heart Warming Movies?
« on: February 15, 2013, 02:21:41 AM »
What are the movies that you love to watch because they inspire and uplift you or warm your heart and fill you with joy even on the greyest of days?

What is it about them that lifts your spirits?

Some of mine off the top of my head are:

Disney's Brother Bear - I love Kenai's journey from hating the bears to repenting for his mistreatment of them and how his brotherly relationship with Koda develops. Plus the spirituality and overall message of the film is beautiful.

Driving Aphrodite (I think it's called My Life in Ruins in the USA) - Such a nice uplifting comedy about an uptight, joyless tourguide getting in touch with her inner joy through her experiences with a group of very diverse tourists and finding happiness and positivity by changing her attitude. I find it really inspirational!

Josie and The Pussycats - One of my favourite comedies ever! There's no big inspirational truths in it, but I just find it so funny that I can't help but be uplifted every time I watch it!

Barbie as Rapunzel (yes, really!) - Rapunzel's gentle attitude and personal integrity are inspiring, I love how she forgives her abuser and tries to give her a second chance. Plus the story is so imaginative, I love how they've built on and expanded the basic story of Rapunzel and the music is beautiful. Much as I love Disney's Tangled, I believe the Barbie version is far superior.

Ella Enchanted - Another great movie, it has it's poignant moments and a great message, I love it for it's comedy too, it's like a live action Shrek movie, and a great re-imagining of Cinderella!

Disney's Mulan - I love how Mulan isn't your typical Disney princess or heroine looking for adventure, she just wants to be able to be herself in a traditional culture, but she steps up to protect her father and achieves amazing things in the process! It's such a feel good movie!

I completely agree with you on Brother Bear.  Other movies I can think of right now are:

Remember the Titans: I love how people who are different in almost every way can become the greatest of friends, if they only give themselves the chance.  And it is based on a true story!

How to Train Your Dragon: Love the message this movie has, it's very poignant.

Pokemon the 1st Movie: The more I watch this movie, the more beautiful it becomes.  I could quote this movie all day long, but here is one of my favorites.  "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant.  It's what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

Seabiscuit:  This horse had amazing strength and courage to overcome his physical limitations and abuse to become one of the greatest racehorses of all time.  The people in his life were equally fascinating.

That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure there will be more I will add later.

In Her Shoes I totally love this movie and the story line is amazing to me. I find it inspirational and makes me tear up every time.
Soul Surfer I didn't expect it to have such a powerful message, truly inspirational and a true story!
50 First Dates and Never Been Kissed It's not really inspirational, but I love watching them over and over
Up It's a really great story and so heart warming and funny
Wreck it Ralph I gotta put this one here because it does give a message and it is inspirational in many levels

Hm, this movie is soooo depressing, but so beautiful and the end is uplifting!
What dreams may come A man goes into hell to save his wife from an eternity of pain and suffering. It really is a dark movie, but the ending is beautiful and wonderful and omg I love this mooovie ;.;

I'm gonna go out on a limb here with another one of my typical weird, no one has heard of it suggestions  :|   But - the one movie I could totally recommend is Enchanted April. Absolutely divine early 90's film about two, stuck in a rut, 1920's english ladies who rent a castle in Italy for a month along with two others - each so different in personality and the place just works incredible magic for them all and the people in their lives. Beautifully filmed, with brilliant characters.

Been a few years since I watched (have never been able to find it on DVD cheap enough) but I used to put it on when in the downest moods and you just come out smiling.

My "Bad Day Movies" are Ghibli films. I love 'em all, especially Ponyo.

If Ponyo doesn't fix me, I start an Invader Zim marathon. That is a guaranteed fix to any bad day.

I have to second Wreck-It Ralph, since I saw it last night at the dollar theater for literally the fifth time. I'm a huge Disney freak, but wasn't expecting it to be as good as it really was. Without giving away spoilers, the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope is really touching and it feels very genuine, and it's just a great film for anyone. Plus, it has a twist that I just DID NOT SEE COMING and every time I watch the film I always find the big reveal to be the most satisfying part of the whole movie. Those of you who have seen it know what I'm talking about. Those of you who haven't, well, go see it and then we can talk about it! :D There's no way I'm spoiling a moment that great.

Oh where to start? I'm not really a movie-freak (though I am a cartoon-anime-kind-of-geek)

A few gems though;

Stardust
Arabian Nights (from Hallmark channel, 3 hours of spectacular storytelling and awesom costumeary!)
Hallmarks Snow White
Anna and the king
Finding Neverland (teary but still feelgood)
Hachico (same as above)
Simply Irresistible

Animated stuff
Totoro
Whispers of the Heart
From up on poppy hill
The Guardians
Fantasia and Fantasia 2000

+ many more

oh and two great musicals; Newsies and Mrs Santa Claus

Newsies (that movie's just one big sing-along for me xD)
Spirited Away (I cry every time, though)
Tron: Legacy
Clueless (love those late 90's teen flicks!)
Edward Scissorhands
The Prince of Egypt
Home Alone 1 & 2

I'm sure there's more. xD
