I wanted to brag on all the work that went into making this sweet guitar prop for my Sweet Notes cosplay for this year's 2015 My Little Pony Fair!

First, I used the original as reference!  One notes the neck is stubby and short.  Originally, I planned to make a prop brush (tines and everything!), but decided since I was going as more of a "humanized" pony, a "real" looking guitar seemed more appropriate.

I took to sketching out the shape on poster board and made my pattern.  Looks right!  I elongated the neck to make it look more appropriately sized for a human.

I glued together two boards of pine (so heavy, and yet so cheap!) and cut my shape using a jigsaw and bandsaw and routed the edges for a smooth look.  The head peice was cute seperately so it could be mounted at an angle (for that  authentic guitar look)

Assembled!  I cut the fretboard of a much thinner piece of scrap wood to be mounted to the front.  I cut the MLP letters and the squiggly bridge section using a scroll saw and mounted to the front after drilling guitar string holes through the top and bottom.

The best part: Painting!  I made my own mix of acrylic paint, which was surprisingly difficult to match up to the neon orange color of the pony brush.  The secret ingredient was lots of neon yellow to tone down and brighten my orange.  The original brush is on top for reference.

Finer detail; I chose to paint on the details instead of cut individual pieces, as it became apparent that would be such an epically frustrating process.

The fret board was painted pale gold.  The frets are square dowels with a thin sheet of brass glued to the top.  Not exactly what I wanted, but I was crunched for time (start your cosplay projects early, kids).

I bought some cheap guitar parts from eBay (Thanks, China!) and mounted them to the guitar.  I also purchased real guitar strings for around $5, which ended up being cheaper than using beading wire (my first alternative).

I  couldn't help myself and applied a shimmery glitter spray to the top before applying a high gloss coat.  And here she is, all finished!  I even managed to find some gold cord to use as the strap.

As a costume tidbit, I dyed a white denim jacket and skinny jeans to the (almost) appropriate shade of pink and embroidered the back of the jacket with my Brother SE-500 (wonderful machine!).  I added some cute neon blue and yellow buttons to the front to make it more 80's.  The wig is hand sewn together from three separate wigs to really give it that 80's POW and all the other accessories were lucky finds.  How crazy are those shoes?  I'm just glad I didn't go face first into the floor.

I hope I made Sweet Notes proud!  I sure had a lot of fun making the whole getup and being a part of the Rockin' Beats cosplay group!

I don't even know what half of the things are!  I told her I adore Kinder Eggs and she really delivered.     8 Kinder eggs should last me at least a full 30 minutes.  I... I have a problem.

I've been coached on how to properly eat the french sausage (on french bread, duh!), and will be doing this tonight.  The Bijous are uhh-mazing!  I took her advice and ate them dunked in milk... so good!

She absolutely piled my box full of candy!  Some kind of Kinder hazelnut candies, bars, taffy-like chews!  I'll be diabetic by next week!  I have yet to get into the chocolate bard, but she got my favorite combo: Chocolate and Carameeeel!

Amazonarabian and I did a private swap with a theme of "local things".  The idea was to explore some local shops and small businesses to find fun things you can't find elsewhere.  I've got to say, she NAILED it!

Amazonarabian hails from New York, but recently moved from Alaska.  She did a thoughtful mixture of both places!  I got some amaaaazing smoked salmon and salmon chowder, what!  I never expected fish in a box, but I couldn't be happier, I've never had any of this before!

We talked at length about her adventures in Alaska and I learned she's a super amazing cool dog musher.  My knowledge of the 1925 serum run didn't extend much past the movie "Balto", and she was kind enough to provide me with a great book to remedy that.  I've learned so much already!

She also sent some delicious locally made brownie crisps that I've had to hide from my husband and shortbread NY Taxi cookies that had a woefully short life in my hands.

And the ponies!  She styled them beautifully and everything!  She even took the time to make me an amazing custom (which I hope she brags about in the customs forum).  It's the most adorable opposum pony I've ever seen in my life.     I'm sure the ONLY opposum pony, ever, and it's MINE! 

I have no pictures for the biggest brag of this swap: I gained an amazing pony friend that I've had such a great time exchanging messages and stories with.  I'm so very glad to call her "friend"!

I'm on a massive spree of restoring my collection as accurately as possible.  I keep setting aside my watercolor seaponies, as I don't have a good idea on what to do with their hair.  Now they're the last thing on my list to do!

So here is my question: Has anyone made a custom or done a restoration with the same hair used in the watercolor sea ponies?  It's quite soft to the touch, not at all like the typical nylon hair on other ponies.  It's silky and fluffy/fuzzy, and (as I've read) changes color in warm water (although mine have long since lost that ability).  It's almost like a silky yarn.


Anyone have experience with this material that knows what it is?
