Anyone have piggies?? -pic overload-

They look so adorable! I have always considered getting one, but the ones in the shops always seem so adverse to attention. I want a cuddly, loving pet - not a skittish bite-y one LOL

Guinea pigs are /very/ skittish especially if they don't get handled a lot. They need time to get used to you. A few years ago, I got a little black guinea pig in a pet store to let me hold him in the space of a half hour. Before I started this with him, he was getting trampled by the larger guinea pigs who fled in a panic because someone looked at them. =p First I put my hand in and let the little guy sniff it which he did for a second before he darted off. Next I let him sniff it again which he did a little longer and this time I also touched his nose before he darted off. Next I was able to stroke his head, then after that his entire body and after that I was able to pick him up. When I put him back down, he was bossing the other guinea pigs around instead of getting trampled by them like before because I'd given him the confidence he'd needed. Hope that helps for when you try to get to know the little guys in the pet shops.

Everyone has such cute pics! I love Guinea Pigs, I wish I wasn't so violently allergic to them.

I'm piggy-sitting my friend's while he's away on vacation and I feel really bad that I can't touch or really interact with her. She's still a baby and has markings that make her look a bit like a skunk. I haven't been around one for years and decided to tempt fate and attempt in picking her up the other day. I was happy when nothing happened initially but regretted it soon after when my eyes and throat closed up. I also broke out in hives, and couldn't stop sneezing for about 20 minutes, bleh. She's so sweet and affectionate too, it really bummed me out as I'm not like this with anything else.

Man so sorry to hear you're that allergic to guinea pigs. =/ Shame it's not the type of allergy you can just be kinda irritated from but ignore.

Awww....I love piggies! We have too much stuff so no space for piggies. We did baby sit my son's classroom's 3 guinea pigs: S'mores, Runaway, and Trixie. I don't have good pics of them yet. I have to get some good ones before the end of the year!

Yes she does certainly try! She's gotten bigger so there's more of her to catch before she gets away but she's fast!

Just had to share this photo someone on DA posted of their guinea pig gnawing on a Mimic. They don't care what's valuable to you. They'll gnaw on anything. Several of my favorite shirts have holes in them because mine didn't care that they were my favorite shirts. XP

I have one now I did have two, fudge passed away but coffie is still gonig strong. I do however piggie sit for a friend, so I some times have four... I love piggies. These are them all.
