I finally got one. I have no idea why it took me so long. I got home from picking it up at around 2PM, played till I went to the gym, skipped Jiu Jitsu class, came home early, and played it till I couldn't hold my arms up anymore. I probably clocked in like seven hours of playing time.
I'm very happy to have one again. I like looking at a corner of my apartment, and seeing a stand up bass that I can play whenever I want. I'm so glad to have this outlet back. Going to wake up tomorrow and spend all day playing it again. Gotta get my hands back (and my playin' callouses), going to be at it all day tomorrow, and the next day, and every day!
I'm sure no one is as excited about it as me, but I'm stoked about it.

Congratulations! Is that like a double bass? O_O I'd love to see pics!

Congrats - it's always great to have an instrument in your hands that you have missed playing!

I love the upright bass! You should grab some action shots whenever possible. Congrats on your new baby!

Double bass, stand up bass, and string bass are all interchangable terms. I'm into jazz, and in jazz circles when someone says 'bass' it's generally assumed that you mean a stand up. That's why I got into it, I'm all about jazz.

I'm pretty pro at that, haha. I do a lot of concert photography and if a band has a bassist I snap oodles of pictures of them. Last time Caravan of Thieves were in town, out of 72 shots I ended up with 28 of the bassist, like ten of their violinist, and the rest were of the guitarists/vocalists.

Never heard it called an "stand up bass" either... obviously not a term we use round this side of the world - but I'm very happy for you. I know how excited you are because I felt the same when I got my antique French cello. I bought him about eight years ago and it felt so nice to be able to play whenever I wanted and not have to use cheap and nasty school cellos that no one took care of properly.

*nods in agreement*
I had never heard them called anything other than double bass - you learn something new every day ^.^
Also.. It's beautiful!

That's awesome!
I personally have always wanted to learn how to play cello, and then turn around and take over the world with my newfound skills.

Love the pic. That bass is a thing of beauty.
