I was going through some of my boxes upstairs. They are not subjected to light or anything bad. This pony was not stored up against anything. I had her in an open zip lock bag. One whole half of her has turned green. She wasn't like this last year. I had her out and I remember her being in perfect condition. In fact I have always had her stored in the same place. Has anyone seen this kind of aging before? Cheap plastic for this pony? What in the world happened? She is ruined.

I have no idea what might have caused that, but it's a rather cool effect? She's like a pony Two-Face. The new Supervillain in town!
-
Sure have, unfortunatly. Each half was from different batches I am sure. Sadly, the right wasn't as good of a batch (stabilizers and such). Could have been from heat, off-gassing from another piece stored nearby. How warm does your storage area get? any wide fluctuations in temp?

I like this concept of Two Faced Star Dancer.
Actually FantasticFirefly she was just upstairs in my house where there is central air conditioning.

interesting. sorry your pony is ruined.
I didn't think ponies were made in "halves" rather just a single pour mold? or maybe the bottom of the mold filled with one batch of plastic and the rest filled with the next batch? I think there's a production word for problems that occur when the production line switches to new input material...
-
Wow - a quirky effect!
I wouldn't say she's ruined - she's very unique!
-
I can't help, but I've got a friend (Clecleme here) who's got actually a pony with the same problem...

She's adorable!!! I'll adopt her Tulagirl if you upgrade her. I love goofy ponies :inlove:

I am pretty sure these are mcdonalds ponies, and they are two pieces of hard plastic. Not a vinyl pony, though my Wizzer looks like this from a summer buried in a daycare sandbox.

No idea what causes it but I have the same pony with the same problem 😆 She came to me like that years ago....
-
I am so sorry to hear that this happened :( I have no idea how it happens, but I have an army of these guys and I have found these there’s no end to the odd colours they can be! I had no idea that this happened to them, I just thought they were cheap,y made and they didn’t care about matching up the colours! Now I’m wondering what causes it
Below are pictures of the ones I own, as you can see cloud dancer (dark blue) and star flight? (Blue) have this issue, and the other two don’t? It’s very odd!
They are indeed Mcdonald’s ponies and are two halves of hard plastic with hair slotted between. The second cloud dancer to the left was a childhood pony. She has only a very minor colour difference and has always been that shade. She had been in a bag in a cupboard too, so I can’t wxplain why yours has changed. All I can say is that it definitely happens.

How weird- but I agree it's an interesting effect
-
I find her pretty cool like that. Better keep it. =D

Oh my goodness there are many of these out there with this problem. I can't believe this. LOL I have decided to name this pony Harvey. I love weird and quirky things, but I am disappointed this has happened. The thing that is so strange is it is perfectly even in discoloration too. You would think it would be uneven and blotchy. Nope its is a perfect even color change. I knew she was a McDonald's European girlie, but still. It is just plain weird how she was fine and then all of the sudden she was Harvey. KC8114 I may just let you adopt Harvey. But you can't blame me if Harvey resorts to some form of evil behavior. Obviously Harvey is unpredictable. ROFLOL

Was she green or blue before?

She was blue. A glittery blue.

She should be fine as long as she has a Batman in the vicinity. :thumb:

You know, she looks pretty good in green.

I don't think we have a Batman. I will have to ask R2. This may be the issue. Perhaps all of the problems I have been having lately are because of Harvey's split personality. (no disrespect intended-just humor) I am trying to decide if this pony would have been prettier all green? I just realized Harvey's tail has been trimmed. Something sinister has happened. Either that or I never noticed this issue.

Let me know!! I will love Harvey in all her weird glory ...even if she is sinister and does abnormal things...such as trim her own hair!!

Just echoing everyone else at this point, but wow that's so cool. At least the standard ponies aren't made like this, or we'd have two-face ponies everywhere.
-
Awwww man, thats awful :( Im sorry that has happened to your pony! Seems G3 are getting older these days *sigh*
-
I do have to say I do like the effect as well, although I'd probably collect the "proper" one and keep both :)
-
That is super neat, I kinda think all of us should document how ponies age, just for fun.

Yes we can start a website on common aging issues with certain ponies. Honestly it probably would be very helpful to know this information.
-
Oh wow, that is odd! It is super cool though! Sorry to echo others

That would be so cool! It would be really helpful to know how and what happens, not just how to restore or fix something.
-
I think that should be done release date and color wise, as that may factor in.

That's a great idea!

My childhood Stardancer was stored under my bed in a box and she still changed colour, as did my sister's (who was stored in the basement) so I think it may be a fault with this particular line of Maccas ponies themselves :/
-
 How weird.. never seen this before! I agree it's probably the plastic this particular set of McPonies were made from. I wonder if it's just storing them on their side that causes them to discolour?
Dang, now I'm worried about my girls D: Yours does look pretty cool like that, though!!
-
The odd thing is mine was stored on her side yes and the side that she was on was her blue side. That side staying the same. It was the side that was up that turned green. I remember this because, when I reached for her I was like, "who is that green pony?" I saw the green side of her first and didn't understand what I was looking at. Then to see she had an even split in color was just a shock.
Crystal-sushi that is interesting that you faced this also. I am beginning to wonder if this will eventually happen to all of them unless we can figure out what caused it. Mine was free from sun and in an airconditioned room but stored in an open bag. Both sides of the pony where subjected to the plastic bag so, it doesn't make sense that one side would turn color and the other not if it was the baggy. The idea that plastic is made differently on one side seems to be a logical reason this would result.
-
I have the very same pony with the same plight. :/ She was perfect when I got her and never exposed to heat or light. Sadly, I have seen this happen several times with this pony and the purple pony from this set.
Mlp Sunsparkle, wow have never seen so many of them together before!!
-
Sounds like you guys need to get your ponies together fora villains convention.
-
I think that is pretty neat looking there! Sorry that it happen to yours though. Something with the plastic when it was made.
